Blasted lands is a nice grinding area. The quests from the two blood elves at the entrance to the zone give out nice buffs too.

The Tainted Scar should be avoided unless you are in a raid and looking for Lord Kazzak, this is where he is. Or if you are a warlock and are going to do your doomguard questline. The scar is scattered with level 61+ elite demons. Doomguards, Dreadlords, Felguards, and felhunters.

The Blasted Lands also used to be known as the Black Morass, a swamp land, and is where the Horde first came to Azeroth through the Dark Portal, which still stands today. The magical energies from the dark portal helped to twist the land and the wildlife there to what it is today.

Yes, the two blood elves give out nice quests but they have you running all over the place killing things in the zone which, in my opinion, decrease your xp/hr. I would stay away from here for both horde and ally, there are not enough quests in the area to make it worth your while.

Although, I must say that taking a peak at the Dark Portal is fun! ;)

As of today, February 21st, 2007(and I'm not sure when this first started), it seems the mineral veins in the Alliance-held mine in the north area of the zone are Horde-only, can anyone confirm?

The two blood elves give some great grinding quests, but I have to say, if there are a lot of people trying to do those quests at the same time, then its a nightmare. The drop rate is terrible, and the respawns aren't anywhere near as fast as you'd prefer. But if you're pretty much alone in the zone, they are good grinds.

Ok let me straight this up. It's gonna be short, for more go to wowwiki.

First the Bloodcursed Orcs (call them whatever, but they weren't the orcs you "know" now) came trough the portal (Opened by Medivh -under Sargas' will- and Gul'dan) from Outlands. They were send by Lords of the Burning Legion as the "First Weave", but eventually cleared their blood and removed the curse that was in it, and that made them so mad in anger. Just in time to group with Humans and stand against The Scourge (sent by Kil'Jaeden with their master Lich King). I'll skip the fights. Arthas a mighty human warrior slew Kel'Thuzad (Lich King's right hand and his mortal leader of the Scoutge). Then the Scourge attacked Quel'Thalas the formal capital of the High-then Elves, they wanted to get to the Sunwell a powerfull source of magic, and eventually did under leadership of Arthas that was now Lich King's servant (he touched Frostmourne a powerfull sword he hoped to kill LK with) and was haunted by Kel's spirit that told him to bath his fallen body in the Sunwell. Kel resurected as a sorcerous lich and as an act of dominance he - now Slange's part - turned Sylvanas Windrunner to mindless banshee. She now residents with part of the Forsaken, ruins of Lordaeron the formal human capital. She doesn't use Forsaken for her own purpouse, she just rules it. After annother bunch of fights Scourge gets to Dalaran and Kel recieves Medivh's spellbook, summons Archimonde and moves to Kalimdor. Now Humans and Orcs lead by Medivh that somehow appeared sail the ocean and get to Barrens, later discover long hidden race of Night Elves. AND NOW. Thrall gets with Cairne Bloodhoof, Night Elves fight with Demons and free Illidan to help them (he after short runs away and makes his own buisness). Elves fight well and defeat BL in Mount Hyjal. Humans reside Theramore undear leadership of Jaina Proudmoore. Orcs search trough Barrens to find their place (Durotar named after Thrall's father). But eventually masses of humans that flied away from Trisfal come to Durotar in their ships. Lead by Jaina's father they try to defeat orcs before they can set and recover, 'couse they don't get that orcs are "good" now. Jaina help's Thrall, her father dies. Humans peacefully return to Theramore.

And so: There's no Horde FTW or whatever 'couse Alliance is the real force (with their foolish pride and actually two leaders: one in Theramore and one in Stormwind - kid King, how great...), and Horde's kinda "made up" with their Forsaken that aren't and can't be with Orcs, Taurens and Trolls

Oh, yeah there's the Blood Elf case. Well they first were magic addicted High Elves the formers of Order of Trisfall (to keep peace, that kind 'o crap) that humans joined (with Aegwynn and Medivh as the last Guardians) and for the LAST the Gnomes. Anyways after they got wiped up at Quel, lead by Kel'thus from the long Sunstrider dynasty they changed their "name" to Blood Elves for the blood of their fallen mates. And lead by stupid humans to sure death from the hand of way overpowered Scourge, they decided to take help from Nagas and their queen Vashij. Humans called them TRAITORS and told to get the f*** off. So they went with Vashij to Outland, and aren't actually in the Horde.

Realism FTW.

I have looked around a little bit, and can't seem to find an inn. I know there is no innkeeper, which is the first sign. I can't find a stable master or anywhere you can log out for extra rested xp. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but if you want an inn, you'll have to go to darkshire for alliance, and presumably there's an inn in stonard for horde.

On the Horde thing. There were two hordes, one (that we know in WoW) is the modern Horde. The other was the Orcish Horde, which was entirely Orcs and came through the Dark Portal... which was mentioned earlier. The Orcish Horde was the tool of the Burning Legion, who had a grudge against the world of Azeroth, the Orcish Horde is in Warcraft I and with several additions (Ogres, Goblins), in Warcraft II. In Warcraft III the Orcs are no longer under bloodlust and are good and gain compatriots and allies with the Trolls and Tauren, although the Alliance thinks otherwise.

there is no town here but there are 4 quests that i recommend doing, right when you walk in you should see the quests.

And if you want you can do this quest: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=2604 but i didnt do it because the mobs for this quest are scattered everywhere and the drop rate is very good and i didnt want to run around looking for them for too long.
You can do these quests as many times as you want but you wont get xp the 2nd time

The Blasted Lands is a great area when you are level 50+ and just want to level your skinning and mining. I respecced to skinning and mining at 70 just because I am always in need of money and I have to say it's a quite great area to farm ores and skins.

One approach to questing here is to keep an eye out in AH for Imperfect Draenethyst Fragment (or the perfect version, if underpriced) and just turn it in as soon as elig., for the quest xp. I would assume this was increased in 2.3.

You can also just buy the animal organs needed for the turn-in as well.

The animal-part drop quests are impressively annoying, but I am looking fwd to trying them on my aoe prot pally in 12 levels or so....

Overall the zone does feel like a place that did not get the quest attention originally intended by blizzard, much like Azshara. Nethergarde is a complete town, with no quests! I can only think that as original release date loomed, some zones were left with less quests that would seem to justify the development time in the zones themselves, and were not subsequently brought up to a normal questing area's standard.

Edit - obviously with cataclysm, this once-useful and informative post is now merely a historical footnote, if even that.

It was the Undead Scourge and coming of the Burning Legion. When Thrall received a vision of that, Medivh visits him (or vice versa). There is a conversation like this:
"Medivh: You feel it too, don't you?
Thrall: The.. demons returned."
(not exactly like this)

Other orcs also sense it, since an orc who's been sacrificing humans also mentioned of demons' arrival. He was defeated by Arthas Menethil.

About who's who and where from..

Orcs: They used to live in Dreanor (known as Outlands after the energies closing the dark portal blasted the land apart). Their leaders were first tricked and then corrupted by the Legion, eventually becoming killing machines serving their demon masters. Gul'dan on Dreanor and Medivh on Azeroth(who's meant to be the guardian of men against demons but who ironically corrupted from within by Sargeras) opened the Dark Portal and led the orcs in Azeroth.

Trolls: They are one of the most ancient races on Azeroth. They were more evolved than humans when they first met. They had grand empires and fought and (not sure but I think..) defeated the Qiraji. Some of them became part of the first Horde (orcs under demon command), now some others are part of the current Horde.

Tauren: They are again an old race, whose ingenious to Kalimdor. They have long lived there, in contact with nature deities, especially "the Earthmother".

High Elves: They were once Night Elves, later banished from Kalimdor and arrived in Azeroth (eastern continent, that is). They were slaughtered by the Scourge. Some of them stayed true to their ways, very few high elves are left in the world.

Blood Elves: The rest of the slaughtered elves named themselves Blood Elves under Kael'thas Sunstrider's command. (although their loyalties changed in time due to events before and during burning crusade)

Forsaken: They are actually composed of Lordearon humans and Quel'thalas elves, who were turned into undead but later broke free of command when arthas' powers vaned.

of the Alliance races, night elves are native to kalimdor, dreanei used to live in dreanor and the rest is from Azeroth (although origins of the races are still sort of vague)

The nearest alliance flightpath to the dark portal is Nethergard keep near the entrance to the Swamp of Sorrows, while the nearest Horde flight path is Stonard in the Swamp of Sorrows.

Try not to die unless you like ridiculouly long corpse-retrieval runs. The only graveyard (that I'm aware of, at least; I don't know if there are others) is up near the Blasted Lands/Swamp of Sorrows border.

That mine with all the 48ish humans and dwarves in it has alot of mithril,trusilver, and small thorium.

It might be worth your time to get a cloth clad guildee to follow you and you farm for ore, he farms for mageweave.

The Horde was formed by Kil'jaeden. He used The leader of the Blackrock clan whoose name I have forgotten to forge an alliance between the other clans. Soon after Gul'dan did things which is so horrifying that I have vowed to never write it, that he made the Horde lose in a way. Then after all the things like the death of the leader of the Blackrock clan by Ogrim Doomhammer and the exile of the Frostwolves because of Durotar and the death of Medivh and so on..........Gul'dan made the Stormreavers clan and created a second Dark Portal which the original Dark Portal was not completely closed by The Alliance. After the whole thing, Ner'zhul got killed by Kil'jaeden and thanks to that, we've got The Frostwolves clan lead by Thrall and the Warsong clan led by the still alive Grom Hellscream.

actually what i think the Horde is...
The first Horde or so known as the "Old Horde" we comprised of orcs mixed with ogre's(also trolls when they passsed thru the dark portal already) that followed Gul'dan(the one who help the possessed Medivh to create the so known as the "Dark Portal")
also it was known the old Horde has aslo theyre own personnal Death Knights back then..
The 2nd Horde or the "New Horde" which was lead by Warchief Thrall(we all know him right?)comprised of Orcs of the FrostWolf Clan(typical),trolls of the Darkspear Tribe(play exodus of the horde =_=) and The Tauren Brotherhood(Cairne Bloodhoof's people)plus the Blood Evles and the Undead Forsaken.many others joined the Horde after like for ex. The Stonemaul Orgres(were convinced by Rexxar to help the Horde)
but.......there is also the "Fel Horde" and the "Dark Horde" but..i dont wanna make this very long =_=..

The intro to Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (blizzard's first released product) clearly mentions the Orcish Hordes. The only races in that game were Orcs and Humans.

Whatever Blizzard retconned later, it is fact that the term Horde was applied when Orcs were the only non-human race in their game, from the very first release of a blizzard product.

The intros are on youtube, if anyone is interested in seeing this. The War1 intro was quite spiffy at the time it was new.........

The War2 intro also references the horde.

Deficineiron I think they were referring to hordes as in a mob or large group not the proper noun in WoW today.

I went to quest in Nethergarde Keep as Alli huntard. 2 quests. One to go to Dun Morough, and the other to talk to the Fallen Hero of the Horde. I thought it was kind of retarded to put a town, which is revelant in lore (Nethergarde Keep was the first alarm in the Alliance defence plan if the orcs invaded again) in a special place, and then leave it. Honestly, Blizz. I hate those gathering quests. Horrible droprates, and you need like 2 lungs for one quest, 3 for the other...so annoying and confusing

There is now a portal to the blasted lands, from either Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
Edit: After a visit to Darnassus, I saw a portal there. So I'm assuming that they put portals in every major city.
Can someone confirm this?

Indeed there is a way to get into the Blasted Lands from Redridge. Southwest of the cave in Render's valley you'll see a nice ramp up the mountains. Once you get up there you'll see what appears to be the way straight up. Instead it is to your right through a little V in the rocks. You'll run parrallel to lands for a bit then turn left and enter The Shifting Mire.

The Flight Path is at the very southern point inside the keep. You have to run up to the the top of the round tower to see it.

Just so all of u no, the dark portal as stated in the earlier posts is inactive If it was active it would take u to outland, which is the shattered remains of the orcs home world of Draenor. The world was distroyed when Gul'dan the most powerful orc worlock made the portal, all the orcs were corupted by the burning legion and cursed with the demonic blood lust that caused them to be Kil'Jaden's pawns in his first atempt to distroy the world of Azaroth. It is none on TFT for the place where Iladin ran of to, to escape the wrath of Kil'Jaden after he had faild to distroy the frozen throne of ice crown, and he was then hunted down there by the night elf warden who had kept him captive for 10,000 years. So yeah, thats basicly what the point of the portal is, and it will mostlikly become active in the expantion, since that is going to be the home of the Draenei I think

Getting into the Blasted Lands is a piece of cake. If you can get through the Swamp of Sorrows (you do need to be high enough lvl for that), you can walk straight through Deadwind Pass without aggro. There isn't anything in there except some high lvl birds that won't aggro if you don't try to go anywhere but the main road toward Swamp of Sorrows. Watch out for the Stonard guards in SoS (lvl 36-37) along the road, and just turn right at the Splinterspear Junction in SoS. Your next major right is the road into the Blasted Lands. Also, look out for the massive Dragonkin boss that can camp out on the road between SoS and Nethergarde.

well, after 2.0, the dark portal now has a use. If you walk up to it, it will say you need the burning crusade to enter. And i think that it is not protected by anything now.

And to the poster above me...hes in the tainted scar, in the south west part of the zone. and hes not a dragon, hes a giant demon, tho i could see some 1 mistaking him for 1 with those big ass wings(unless you are talking about a dragon i dont know about yet)

To those who have seen it in 2.0.4 the dark portal has finally been activated, it says when you walk up to it that 'You need the Burning Crusade to enter this instance'

The story now is:
The portal opened in a sudden blast of energy, ripping the crater it was in even more up. The torrent of demons that came out killed all the lesser demons surrounding it after sensing the demon threat the alliance of Netherguarde and the horde of Stonard rushed to the portal and now fight together as one movement to quell the threat of the relentless torrent of demons from the portal, the actual players i have seen going down there just kill the creeps and have made a temporary truce to make sure that when The BC comes out we can actually enter the Outlands

there is a nice little Q down there where you've gotta kill 6 felguards an u get a funky tabbard which makes u do sum mad show-off move which has a 30 sec CD and doesnt actually do anything but an animation

every so often a Dread Lord (Giant vampire of evil doom XO), shortly after his arrival, which greatly turns the tide of the battle, lord something or other form stormwind comes down and helps us pwn his ass.

This is what is going on because i am currently there wiht my char on the Vashj server, the alliance and horde have set up a nice little camp in the crater in front of the portal but its pretty much decimated and the buildings have no function but to get in your way when trying to run away from 6 portal hounds.

WTH....they put all these grinding type quests here, with HORRIBLE drop rates, and they didn't include a vendor who sells ammo? The closest I can find is Darkshire, and they only sell low-level ammo there.

Those with the Burning Crusade and at least level 58 are able to walk through the Dark Portal to reach Hellfire Peninsula in Outland.

The Dark Portal is a sanctuary and therefore combat there is prohibited, even between PvP flagged players.

You can get to the area south of Blasted lands(on the coast) by mountain climbing the hills directly SE of the Dark Portal.

The texture is flat and orange with hills overlooking the coast(which registers you as in the swamp of sorrows).

the closest horde FP is in the Swamp of Sorrows in the camp called Stonard. There's not long from Stonard to the Blasted Lands, and almost the same distance from the Alliance camp and the horde camp to The Dark Portal

its wierd... im lvl 52, yet not one quest pops up at Nethergarde Keep. I got the quests that give you Roids and stuff, and the One Dreinies junk.. but none of those are for SW and none give SW rep, so, what do i do for the quests?

No path exists south of the mountain range, I travelled from the Swamp of Sorrows south, along the coastline of the Blasted Lands to Stranglethorn Vale. The mountains were impassible. The cuts along the coastline are like the fjords or Norway and Sweden, nice to go into but dead-end.

There are two areas along the coast that appear to be a row of potholes. Actually they look like the creators didn't care wo travelled back here and made a series of holes to fill landspace. If you fall into one, you cannot get out, except for hearthing or portal help from a mage.

Nice place, but wouldn't want to live here.

Great place to level, very small but offers lots of quests and the quests usually lead you to killing lots of mobs before you can complete it, the fragments also give xp and the flawless ones offer blue items and other mats occassionaly, so farm well and collect ALL quests there. One last thing, dont rely on quest helper for the quests given by the mages near the bonfire, it only shows one quest for each ingredent while each quest share ingredents.

EDIT: There IS a mailbox there so dont hearth back to ur home, dont make my mistake

There is no mention of the two quests available in the Tainted Scar area to obtain the Doomgaurd for Warlocks.

However, the questgiver is located near 29,46

He has 2 quests that send you to Dire Maul and Wintergrasp.

When you enter Blasted Lands from the north, take the first cave/mine you see called "Garrison Armory." Follow the tracks to the right and it spits you out near the entrance of Nethergarde Keep. The FP is in the south part of the area up a small wooden stair.

The Dark portal actually leads into a place called the "Outlands". Its a large island off the south coast of Azeroth. It is a much darker gloomier landscape covered with thorns and floating pieces of landscape (either that or land that just isnt working, lol). There seem to be several villages around and looks to be a place to run quests. Sadly nothing is there yet except the land because it has not yet been implemented yet. However once it has this is actually the place you find Illidan from Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3 FT. If you want some screens I could muster some up.

You can't go "in" it. If you walk through the portal, nothing will happen and you'll just hit the canyon wall behind the portal.

the dark Dark Porta goes to the "Outlands" where there are all sort of quests
level 60+ and level 70 you can get a flying mount it's really really cool
and they have super mountes that are flight paths that are even faster then the mountes you can fly anywhere.
but the flying mountes can only be flown IN THE OUTLANDS! hope this all helps :)

What is the point of this zone? I see nothing in there but a bunch of miners and nothing to mine. I suppose if you are horde you could go on a killing spree but for alliance it looks like a waste of space.

For the alliance, there is a flight path in Nethergarde Keep. It's on the top of a tower to the right and behind a building when you enter.

It's where you find Kazzak, and as with all raid encounters (as well as their zones), they're not supposed to be easy. They're supposed to be very very hard. As in watching them break your raid open like a nuts hell when the MT dies and OT lags, clothies beware.

Blasted Lands is zone of particular interest to both Warlocks and Priests: Warlocks can learn how to invoke the fearsome Doomguard via Summon Doomguard with Daio the Decrepit, and Priests search the elite demons for the The Eye of Shadow, one of the items require to create their epic staff, Benediction/Anathema.

A broken NPC, Kum'isha the Collector, can be found in the Blasted Lands. Kum'isha exchanges crystals such as Flawless Draenethyst Sphere for treasure!

Blasted Lands is also home to mobs such as Servant of Razelikh, which cannot be killed without having a specific item from a Blasted Lands questline. They can be used as an easy way to level up weapon skills.
