Just go to your WoW directory and run Wow-64 or wow.exe. Easy fix
Yeah, this worked fine for me hours ago and I wouldn't have thought to do it if I hadn't seen this post. It would be nice to vote on these comments as well - I mean, this was the first so it's at the top but if we could up vote it, more people would've known and been happy to be playing.

I wish blizzard was better about communicating the status directly. In bnet it says info will be updated as they have it. if you go to the support forum there's been 2+ updates since then. none of the blizzard posts actually show up on any "blue trackers" because support forums are ignored. and there's NOTHING in the "service status" forum, which you'd think would be the actual best place for this.
Sad that the best place for updates is third-party sites like Wowhead and Twitter.
Well considering
BlizzardCS
is essentially their support account on Twitter, that's not really a fair assessment. It's been known that Blizzard has officially been making these announcements via Twitter - it is their option over using the probably not so frequently viewed Service Status board on their official forums. This way everyone wins.
Edit: Also if their site is down, it's pretty self-explanatory as to why they'd make announcements on Twitter. Battle.net completely dropping off happens sometimes when these server issues or maintenance crop up.
I just got into the game by bypassing the launcher......I swear that launcher is the worst thing Blizzard has ever done for this game. I wish they would get rid of it. Unfortunately now you can't update the game without it.
There's some flaws with the new launcher, but at the same time it has a lot of benefits. Aside from the fact it's a convenient launcher for all of Blizzard's games, it allows for communication with Battle Tag/Real ID friends in a way almost akin to Steam and streamlines a lot of processes, such as purchasing things, updating games, and making players almost never have to enter their login information after their initial login to the Battle.net client.
They should use thier OWN forums or game launcher for updates/ not a 3th party social media site with a horrible layout/way of navigating a.k.a twitter.
Secondly there load of people (me included) that only play one of thier game wich is wow really dont need some slow loading laucher that bugs alot when the old worked jsut as fine.
