Literally the first thing I did when I got my job offer during the pandemic was negotiate what would happen if I had to move despite any other assurances. Glad I did.
ITT: Basement-dwellers with zero idea what they are talking about comment on corporate policy, quality of life for employees, and the philosophy of remote work. Don't forget your popcorn!
The only people I feel bad for are those hired remotely. Typically a company would say it’s temporary in some medium fine print kind of bs way though. To all the rest that realized living in a big expensive city wasn’t a good idea. You’ve got the same insight as the Dragonflight dungeon design team. LOL at you. LMAO even. And using the launching of a 15 year old IP and shadowlands as successful remote work. Wack
Honestly as someone who works in the videogame industry I can understand why Blizzard does that. 100% work from home is a massive !@#$ show when it comes to organization. It's the best way to have a really chaotic team that never communicates and deliver poorly thought out designs.I'm surprised they weren't already back in office most videogame studios around the world already enforce 3 days minimum in office per week.
I hope that recent hires were made somewhat aware if back to the office work policies were in the works, as unlikely as that is. I don't think it's entirely fair if people were hired under the "WFH for the foreseeable future" guise but now are expected to pack up and move across the country to a place with a higher cost of living. SoCal living isn't cheap or feasible for many-- and I say this as someone who has lived there. For the people hired months or years ago with WFH policies-- if it was me, I would have at least contemplated what the move would look like in the event it had to happen so there'd be some prep done in case.I see both sides; it's a tough situation to be in, but we'll see how the next few months go for ABK employees.
So I half-expected this announcement to be a full five-day-a-week return to the office. But, three days in office and two days out is not a bad gig. My friends at Big Insurance Company (Markel) have been on that schedule since Late 2021, and Capital One has been offering a similar plan for their employees.I would not be surprised if some remote employees are considered exempt from this policy. 10% of my company is remote-by-design.
Good. Almost everyone I know who claims to be "working from home" is hardly doing any work, and passing off the work to someone else. There are plenty of hard working people who would love an opportunity to work for Blizzard. If driving to the office is too much to as of you, then find a new job. Most employers are moving away from the work from home approach because the truth is, people are not putting in a full 40hours/week and everyone knows it.

you can tell in the comments who has either not worked a remote job ever/ is a current manager dealing with remote workers, and the other group which is people who have actually worked remote.
