Ok, I did both Morrowgrain quests to compare them.
Note: I am using a mod to show the reputation in numbers. This is not the same as Cosmos' digits.

If you are unfamiliar with the mod:
Neutral to Friendly: 3k reputation points required.
Friendly to Honored: 6k reputation points required.
Honored to Revered: 12k reputation points required.
Revered to Exalted: 21k reputation points required.

Darnassus:

As 47 human mage, I got 4.7k experience points and 110 increase in reputation with Darnassus. So that is 100 for Gnomes, Dwarves and Night Elves. (Humans get a racial 10% additional reputation increase) Morrowgrain handed in: 10.
Reward: Bag with randomly selected: potions, scrolls (extra stamina III, strength III etc.) and food.

Follow up: 470 quest experience. And 27/28 increase in reputation with Darnassus. So 25 for Gnomes, Dwarves and Night Elves.
Morrowgrain handed in: 10.
Reward: That same bag again.

Feathermoon Stronghold:

Did it with the same character: 47 human mage.
I received the same 4.7k quest experience for completing the quest. I also got that 110 increase in reputation. So like in Darnassus: This would mean 100 for Gnomes, Dwarves and Night Elves.
Morrowgrain handed in: 10
Rewards: The questreward item and 10 Packets of Tharlendris Seeds.

Follow up: Completing this will give you 470 quest experience and 27/28 increase in reputation (Yes, that's 25 if you are a Dwarf, Gnome or Night Elf).
Morrowgrain handed in: 5
Rewards: 10 packets of Tharlendris Seeds.

As conclusion: Handing them in at Feathermoon Stronghold is better. Ohw. And if you want to get to exalted with Darnassus: go for the cloth option. You'll get it way faster than handing in Morrowgrain.

Edit: as of patch 1.9, it does not make a difference where to hand them in. Also note that the level of handing in Morrowgrain has been increased to level 55 (already in from 1.8 I believe). So I am not sure whether you can still do this quest at level 47.

I noticed (at least the last 10 times I did this) that when you are actually in Un'Goro crater you have more often morrowgrain out of the casing than when you're not there.

The last 10 times counted, I had 9 morrowgrain loot while in Un'goro, and only 4 when I was elsewhere.

Maybe someone can confirm this.

I found the npc in Stormwind that gives the prequest for this, but she doesn't have any ! (only herb training) I'm lvl 48.... why is that?? maybe they changed it ??

No. I just got the pre-quest in StormWind, and I am level 49.

At level 48, her exclamation was gray to me.

My gnome warlock got the quest at 49, so I don't think the level pre-req has been changed. I haven't noticed any difference in the proc rate for Morrowgrain, depending whether I am in Un'Goro or not, but I will pay more attention to this. There may be a difference if one is a herbalist, though. I am herb/alch, and I usually get more Morrowgrain when it does proc than my hunter alt who is not a herbalist. First time it procced, I got five Morrowgrain; three or four is more the average.

Personally, my advice is that after completing the quests, to stockpile the Morrowgrain and turn it in all at once if you are going to repeat the quest for rep. Saves you multiple trips to these far away lands.

If you talk to Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm in Damassus he says you*ll gain more Morrowgrain if you are a Herbalist.....did anyone try if there is indeed any difference if you use the bag as herbalist or as none herbalist ?

For the faction part, I used an add on with numbers...it showed me for the follow quest the same faction amount gained as it showed for the follow quest in damassus. 25 points at level 52.

I've turned in 200 Morrowgrain ( which is 40 times doing this quest ) That is not an exageration...I did it.

The boost on my rep in darnassus has been very very slight. It would take a lifetime of doing this to actually get to revered rep.

This is NOT the way to boost your rep.

Morrowgrain quests:

The Morrowgrain quests can be quite involved as there are two quest givers and turn-in locations. Also the rewards given are different for both turn-in locations. The actual process to get Morrowgrain takes several steps as well.

The quest line starts with a quest called Morrowgrain Research which is given out by Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm. Arch Druid Fandral Staghelm may be found at Thottbot coordinates 35,8 in Darnassas. He is located at the top level of the Druid complex (Cenarion Enclave). He asks you to take a packet of 20 Tharlendris seeds to the middle level of the same complex and give them to Mathrengyl Bearwalker who gives out the next quest. That quest is also titled Morrowgrain Research (Just to confuse things).

The second Morrowgrain Research quest has you take a special pouch called an Evergreen Pouch (Provided when you receive the quest) and put into it 2 Un'Goro Soil (Collected in Un’Goro Crater) and 1 of the Tharlendris seeds from the packet (First 10 seeds given to you with the quest). With 2 Un'Goro Soil in your backpack along with 1 Tharlendris seed, you right click the Evergreen pouch. The pouch will plant the seed into the soil and grow an Evergreen Herb Casing. When you right click the casing, out will pop a random herb. One of the herbs grown may be Morrowgrain. When you have 10 of them you turn them in to complete the quest. You can repeat this quest as many times as desired. You can grow a new Evergreen Herb Casing once every 10 minutes.

There is a second parallel quest line involving Morrowgrain as well. This chain of quests starts with either Innkeeper Shyria in the Inn of Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas or with Tannysa the Herbalism trainer in the Mage Quarter of Stormwind. Talking to either of these two people will give you a quest titled Jonespyre's Request which asks you to go talk to Quintis Jonespyre in the Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas. Quintis Jonespyre will then give you the repeatable quest titled The Mystery of Morrowgrain. This quest is identical to the above quest (Use the Evergreen pouch to grow an Evergreen Herb Casing from 1 Tharlendris seed and 2 Un'Goro Soil and out pops a random herb) except you only need to turn in 5 Morrowgrain.

In the end, you now have two locations to turn in Morrowgrain:

Turning in 5 Morrowgrain to Quintis Jonespyre in the Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas will give you 25 reputation with Darnassas. In addition he also gives you another packet of 10 Tharlendris seeds so you can go out and grow more.

Turning in 10 Morrowgrain to Mathrengyl Bearwalker at the Cenarion Enclave in Darnassas will earn you 50 reputation with Darnassas. In addition he also gives you a Cenarion Circle Cache. Opening this will provide a random number of items as loot. Typically there are 4-8 items in the bag although I have seen only 1 before and as many as 14 per Cenarion Circle Cache. Where to get Un’Goro Soil: Un’Goro Soil is found in Un’Goro Crater (Southern end of Kalimdor). Un’Goro Soil is dropped (from Dinosaurs) throughout the crater. Just run around the zone (Avoiding being stepped on or eaten by the dinosaurs) and right click the dirt piles you see laying on the ground. Un’Goro Soil is often found in the AH as well. Un’Goro Soil stacks up to 100 units per stack now.

Where to get Tharlendris seeds: Tharlendris seeds may be purchased from either of the two turn-in NPCs or you can get them as part of your turn-in reward when you turn in Morrowgrain to Quintis Jonespyre in the Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas.

Where to get an Evergreen pouch: An Evergreen pouch is given to you when you receive the second Morrowgrain Research quest. Replacements may be purchased (For around 1 Gold) from either of the two turn-in NPCs.

The rewards:

Once you have grown Evergreen Herb Casings and retrieved the herbs out of the casings you can either turn in the Morrowgrain for reputation, sell it on the AH or use it to make Cenarion Herb Bags (Manufacturing 20 slot herb bags requires 8 Morrowgrain as one of the materials to make 1 bag). In addition the loot from the Cenarion Circle Cache is typically valued at several gold and may be used or sold as needed.

In addition to growing Morrowgrain, the Evergreen Herb Casings often contains other herbs which may be used or sold as needed. How much Morrowgrain or other herbs you grow and which types depend on your Herbalism skill. As an example, I dropped the Herbalism profession completely and grew 65 Evergreen Herb Casings. Out of those casings I received the following:

Morrowgrain 50
Kingsblood 6
Gromsblood 3
Earthroot 9
Briarthorn 8
Liferoot 7
Mageroyal 5
Sungrass 2

For a total of 90 herbs averaging 1.48 herbs per Evergreen Herb Casing. For the most part these are lower-end herbs.

I relearned Herbalism and worked it up to 300 skill level. I then grew 65 more Evergreen Herb Casings. This is what I received from those:

Morrowgrain 75
Kingsblood 22
Gromsblood 2
Liferoot 6
Sungrass 5
Stranglekelp 13
Blindweed 5
Goldthorn 22
Firebloom 2

For a total of 152 herbs averaging 2.34 herbs per Evergreen Herb Casing. For the most part these are higher-end herbs. The maximum # of herbs out of any single casing is 5.

As I went up in skill level, the numbers and types of herbs increased steadily.

All in all 300 Herbalism will result in a 50% increase in Morrowgrain output and a 70% increase in the number of herbs grown as well as large increase in the value of the herbs.

Most people performing the Morrowgrain quests keep the pouch, seeds and soil in their backpack and as they run around Azeroth they pop out a new batch of herbs once every ten minutes. For an Alchemist this results in a steady supply of herbs for use in potions and for others it results in a steady supply of cash from the sale of those herbs. The hardest part is having enough space in your bags for all those herbs!

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I joined just to post this info.
I have been playing this quest through with a level 53 warrior.
I found this quest more or less a waste of time, until I got to Artisan Herbalism. The drop from the casings was just too poor. I got no morrowgrain at all out of maybe 12 cultivations. I then spent some time harvesting herbs and retrained to Artisan level. this itself took time, but it was low risk and no deaths, as most of these herbs grow in low level areas, such as Arath Highlands and Alterac Mountains. On a horse I was able to cover a lot of area quickly.
Immediately after retraining I was able to get 9 morrowgrain out of 4 cultivations, then had 4 poor unsuccesful ones, then got the 10th.
In short, do not rely on the very very slim probability of succesful cultivation unless you are an Artisan Herbalist. My rate was 0% before I trained up. I would not have bothered with this quest at all, it took 3 days out, but the reward is (just about) worth having :D

Questie shows this as available in classic, but it's not there.

Originally the quest was introduced in Vanilla Patch 1.13 which was the Diremaul Patch. So this quest will probably arrive later with Phase II

Says it is orange at lvl 47, questie told me that I should be able to pick this up as well. Went there at 47 but I can't pick it up. Maybe I'm missing something or the requirement of lvl 47 might be wrong.

If anyone's ever that curious as to why Fandral needs all that Morrowgrain, it's because he went mad because his son died when C'Thun waged war on the world 1000 years ago, so he was easily persuaded by Xavius to plant a corrupted branch on the young World Tree Teldrassil. This, together with a miscalculation/lack of knowledge from thousands of years ago when planting the other World Trees (especially the one in Northrend), allowed Yogg'Saron's corrupted influence to escape his prison and seep into the Emerald Dream, thus forming the Emerald Nightmare. Fandral, still under Xavius' influence, then ambushed Malfurion and put him in a coma and started using Morrowgrain on him regularly to keep him asleep (in the Emerald Nightmare) and slowly kill him by turning him into a tree.

Description

Let me to be frank with you, <name>. I'm interested - nay, concerned with why the Arch Druid in Darnassus is using the name of the Cenarion Circle as well as the Circle's resources to procure vast amounts of morrowgrain. I'm a researcher - curses are my specialty. I've heard that morrowgrain, under the right conditions, exude qualities like other herbs used in primitive curses.

I want to know more, and I ask for your help. Bring me ten morrowgrain, and I will be sure to take care of you.
