The Grizzled Den is slightly Southeast of Kharanos, for those who don't have coordinates. Wendigos can be quite bothersome at this level, so I recommend you take one or two friends along with you. The Wendigos don't drop these frequently, but don't give up! It generally takes players 2 clears of the cave to get all of the manes.

An easier way to do this is to wait outside and kill the ones that respawn at the edge of the cave - no getting trapped by respawns, and there's no aggressive mobs close by.

Pilot Stonegear is at Steelgrill's Depot which is East of Kharanos.

as a rogue this is the most annoying quest i have ever done. The wendigos can see through my stealth as if it wasn't on and they are too closely grouped for me to be able to kill them. All in all, a shocking quest when you consider this is an 'easy starting area'

Just finished this with my lvl 21 NE hunter.
Yes very easy, but i suggest you take a skinner with you,if you are not one. you both will profit from this. Skinners dream.
Coords are entrance to mane is 42-54.
Don't forget there is a chest at 42-47.
Then bring the manes to Pilot Stonegear at 49-48..

soloed EASILY with a lvl 6/7 warrior (i lvled while doing the quest) occasionally i was attacked by two, but never went blow half health......btw, usually atleast 2 mining nodes inside

This place is a dream come true for low-level grinding. It contains the only skinnable humanoids that I've found in the game. This means you get cash as well as leather (but no cloth, sadly). When your bags are full, you can Hearthstone to Kharanos and be back inside the cave in 2 minutes. If you bugger up, the graveyard is 30 seconds away.

I created a gnome warrior and took her through the infested tunnel to Kharanos (rising to level 2 in the process). At Kharanos there's a mailbox, so I was able to twink her with cash and lots of bags from an alt. I bought the full level 2 vendor armour, sword & shield. Then I went to Ironforge, learned skinning, mining and guns, bought a gun, and headed back to the Grizzled Den.

I found that at level 2 I could pull and kill the Young Wendigos (level 5) but I had to level to 3 before I could handle the level 6 adults. When there weren't any level 5s available, I still had stuff to do, because it was a busy day and there were lots of new level 5-10 players gleefully slaughtering all the ones outside the cave and leaving their skinnable carcases littering the landscape. None of the players had skinning, of course.

By the time I reached level 4 I was in the depths of the cave killing, skinning and mining everything as it popped. I didn't have much competition because you can complete the quest without going much past the cave entrance, and it's actually a mini-dungeon down there. I think I got to level 9 in a couple of hours before I got bored with it. It was a bit like fishing.

2 months later, and with a level 60 troll hunter, I can add:
Wendigos belong to a whole class of skinnable humanoids. See YETI. They're found in Hillsbrad (levels 30-32), Alterac Mountains (32-34), Feralas (42-47) and Winterspring (53-58, see here).
They're all very easy farming, from about 2 levels below their level, and they're all very lucrative if you have skinning and mining (their caves spawn high-value minerals at regular intervals). The Winterspring ones are going to pay for my epic mount (560 gold, including the training!). Frost mages should take care, though - all Yetis have high frost resistance.

...and a final edit...
There is, in fact, a second class of skinnable humanoid called "worgen", but without a generic name you can search Thottbot for. Examples sre "moonrage xxx" in Silverpine Forest, and "nightbane xxx" in duskwood. Apparently (see here) there will be lots of worgen in the soon-to-come expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

I Soloed it with my lvl 7 pally (paladin) and i didnt take on 7 at once! The max amount i killed at once was 3!

the den is right behind the blacksmithing place in kharons. my advice is to not go in the cave if u are lvl 6 or 7 stay outside the cave and use ranged weapons to lure the wendigos out. if you go inside you will get traped and have to run for it to get out. unless u think u can kill 7 wendigos all at once.

kill Wendigo for drop 8x Wendigo Mane (56% drop rate)
return quest /way 49,59, 48,54
