Using the drums either gets 3 sand gnomes, 3 of the mature worms, or the elite worm. It took us about twenty summons to get the big worm, though I don't know if that's regular or not. Two things to take note of. Make sure you stay at full hp for summons. Our T2 paladin got 1-shot by three 1.3k poison bolts since he wasn't at 100%. Secondly, assign one person to summon. If two people place the drums at the exact same time, bad things will happen (we got a spawn of six worms).

To get this quest, you need to complete:

Digging Through Bones (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10922). Don't really need two players.
Fumping (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10929). Again, don't necessarily need two. Just expect downtime if you're soloing.

Toppazz is right, be cautious when summoning, and definitely bring a healer. Hai'shulud hits hard, and even the mini worms can be a handful.

This quest seems to be somewhat bugged. Every time we got the Mature Worms, 2 of them stay under the sand and never come up.. but while they are in the sand, they can keep shooting you with their poison (1000 damage a hit). If you get the Mature Worms, just run.

I tried about 30 times, never got the worm. Best bet would be to find some horde doing the quest, wait for them to get the big guy, then gank em and steal their kill. After 30 tries with me ( 65 pally ) and a 65 warrior, and seeing the horde get it on their first try, it just seemed fair.

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the notes above this note. THIS IS EASY! Go to 45,77 -- Kill one of the yellow clefthoof guys, then use the drums when it is dead. You get a nice 65 elite worm that can be duo'd or trio'd. Done.

Got him to about 40-50% hp, somehow wiped and started run on travel form. Then it said "Leaving Combat", I looked back and the worm had died :S I did not kill it, somehow it just died. Quest item was also lootable, and I got it finished.

I did this quest with one other person near Vindicator Haylen who starts the For the Fallen quest. He tanked the worm for about half the fight before getting killed. Not sure if it's a glitch but it seemed impossible to pull aggro off him leaving us in good condition for the second half of the fight. 67 Hunter, 66 Mage

Was able to easily solo this with a 68 Hunter and I imagine it can be done with any other ranged class as well.

The trick is to use the east tunnel that leads into the Auchindoun. Kill the clefthoof near the tunnel so you don't have to travel far to get there once the worm spawns. Once it spawns, you want to run down the ramp and get positioned so that you can quickly strafe behind the wall out of line of sight once he begins casting his ranged poison attack.

If you are positioned correctly, you will not take any damage whatsoever because he can not pop up from under you if you are deep enough inside the tunnel.

You get a few seconds in between each ranged poison attack to do some damage. It took me about a minute to finish him off using this method.

Heh, I am not sure what happened, but i attempted to solo this quest as a 68 holy paladin and it seemed to be going ok. It couldnt hit me for very much and wasnt immune to my stuns. I got it down to about 50% and and just suddenly died. Dunno why that is but ill take it! lol GL to you all

Just did this as a 64 priest, with a 64 rogue. Getting the spawn with the 3 worms was harder to deal with than the boss itself, due to the huge damage that they concentrate on one person. Once we got the boss, I went into healbot mode while the rogue dpsed. He does a fair amount of damage, but nothing that I couldn't heal through.

Easiest Method Ever, Kill him in 1 shot. (Sound impossible? Its not =) )

You may need a timer mod, he will despawn 3 minutes after he is spawned regardless of his current health or if he is in combat.

Summon him, wait 2 minutes 50 seconds, shoot him.

Survive the next 10 seconds and he dies and is lootable if you have him tagged.

Soloed as 70 affliction/demo warlock. Nothing fancy, dotted him up, spammed shadowbolt, sacced a VW, fast summoned another, and sacced him again when the time came. Killed him with 500 hp to spare, used no pots or healthstones.

Tried it as a 64 Hunter. It honestly took 45 minutes to finally get the big one to spawn and over 40 summons (all FD).

Finally he spawns.. My FD Fails.. I try to summon pet and do get him off me but when FD becomes available again a horde mage appears and starts attacking the big worm. My pet dies, I get aggro and have to FD. The mage gets him down some, then the worm turns and hits me for 2 1,000+ bolts.

Friggin FD failed 2 times (No it was not serpent stung either time).

an hour wasted... plus 2 stacks of bandages because I needed to be full health each summon. waste of time.

Took him out today, 70 enhancement shaman. I don't think I even had full HP/mana, but I popped earth elemental and kept it healed while regenning mana with Shamanistic Rage. Got him down to like 15% when Rocky died, and I easily took out the rest. Don't even think I needed that 1 potion I used.

I soloed Shai'Hulud with the waiting until he despawned method. He's despawning after 2 minutes now however, not 3. Just engage him about 1:45 after he spawns and stay alive and you're golden.

Just tried it on 14-July-2007. The worm died after exactly 2mins.
Because he dies at the same time as my Earth Elemental despawns. (Shaman)

Shaman can solo this at lev66 with just keep the Earth Elemental healed. Easy enuff.

Solo'd as a 70 Arms spec warrior.
To clarify all of the above:

Kill Decrepit Clefthoof https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=22105 - Found in and around 44.77.
Once dead, click the corpse and use your drum.

You will get ALOT of BS spawns. for me it was 3 little gnomes... which is better then the 3 worms. the Gnomes were much easier to run from.

Once the named does spawn.... For me, first I tried to DPS it down... Figured I was 70 and had decent gear... so I used recklessness.... and didnt even get it to 50% before I died.

Second time, I used the strat listed above... spawn him... he will hit you a few times, just run out of aggro range, heal up, then within 2 minutes of spawning him, run back in dps him a little and just stay alive.... at 2 minutes he despawns, you loot,

quest complete.

As of July 15, 2007, the strat still works.

The worst thing about this quest is all the fake spawns. Like posted above, I suggest doing this at 50,76 so the 62 elite can help you out when you get fake spawns. Don't expect him to be able to kill the gigantic worm, he got killed in seconds.

well, I finally managed to solo it as a level 65 41/15/0 Tauren Hunter, I died about 3 times with trial and error, but I wound up using a mixed strat, I summoned him near where Vindicator Haylen is, ran off (with pet dismissed) and Feigned, waited about 1min 40 seconds, ran back to him summoned my pet and made it attack, then stood next to Vindicator Haylen so he'd help, he actually despawned/died when we had him to about 45%... and I got to loot. :)

btw. I got lucky I got him first spawn, the 3 set of bone worms twice and then him again.

Got him on my 2nd fumping (worms the first time). Couldn't believe how huge he was.. just kept coming out of the ground. A L70 cat tanked him, so I spent most my time running around trying to hit after he digs (travels quite far) and healing kitty.

No real strategy, just going for it.

Nice rewards, good EXP, cool references. Definately a chain to do.

We summoned the elite worm and by luck chance I was at 49,76 near some Sha'tar NPC's (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=22462) and one of them came to help. We probably would have killed the worm without the NPC, but it was kind of a morale boost to have some free help.

Alternate spawns have been reduced - now if you don't get Hai'Shulud when fumping, you only have 2 gnomes or 2 of the smaller worms to deal with.

Hai'Shulud still dies after 2 minutes of being spawned.

I managed to solo as a 65 druid, all I did was kill a clefthoof near the Auchindoun graveyard and summoned him there. I pulled him over to the stone part where he couldnt move any further and just continually rank 1 moonfired until he decided to despawn.

So not a real solo but I did finish my quest so I am happy.

I'm a level 70 Paladin and just did this quest solo, was a bit frustrating with all the worm spawn and all the nature damage, they tick for about 1000+ and it hurts, you need full health every time you beat the drums in case you get the elite worm and its megga huge. Here is how to do it. Like everyone said it took about 20 drum beats and spawns to get the giant elite worm.

Stay close to 44, 77 in the Bone Waste Land (AND) close to Auchindoum open stair entrance going down into it. However long it takes to get the elite to spawn you will have to try. But when you do, make sure you hit the Elite with spell or whatever at least once to tag it or aggro. Then immediately run into Auchindoum entrance out of the worm line of sight, may have to move down the ramp out of line of sight. Don't try to fight it solo, its nature damage at 1000+ will kill you quick. But Worm will follow as far as the concrete entrance to the stair ramp and no more. Stay aound the corner and you can pop out and throw it a spell or two ( I just kept throwing avengers shield at it when it was off cooldown since only range spell) and like everyone else said it will die in 2 mins irregardless. When it does run up and loot the sucker.

There's another way to solo this. First, kite one of those clefthoof as close to auchindoun as possible. (around 42,72) Then use the fumper, if the elite spawns, run behind the wall, turn right, and get past that rock. It seems like the elite cannot get past that rock OR regenerate hp when it drops combat. After that, heal up, then pound it with ranged attacks till it gets to around 70% then wait for 1 min, and it will just die.

Lol tryed as a 65 druid oomkin... startet with tree ants and dps and keep healing me and got out off range off it... suddenly i got out of combat i ran in fast and took form 40% to 36%... after running around it a bit it suddenly die with 36% health left and i could still take the q item.... either its was a bug or LUCK off some sort

Don't do this quest!

It took me 25 spawns of trash before the boss. The trash can be:
A)2-3 Sand Gnomes that have no drops or experience.
B)2-3 Worms that can take down an unaware 70.

After all this, you down the boss for terrible blues, 350 LC rep, and about 15G@70 (if you sell the dagger reward).

it took me 40+m to do the damn thing!

I used the suggestions here to solo this with my lvl 67 lock.

Magically I managed to get the elite on the very first attempt. I summoned him right by the tunnel leading to Auchindoun, thew dots on him, and watched his casting bar for poison spit. By moving out of his line of sight before he spit I was able to avoid most of the damage. Actually the damage that did hit me wasn't bad... about 150ish each time. Because I kept out of his LOS most of the time he didn't hit me enough to even cause me to need to drain life, pot, or use my HS. He did seem able to hit my VW though, even from around the corner. I just went with it and sacrificed him when he got really low on health in case the worm wanted to hit me but he didn't seem to.

After I got him to about 40% health he fell down dead. I wasn't timing it but I'm guessing that was the 2 min mark. Thanks for all of the suggestions, it worked out perfectly.

Now this was fun! As a 70 Paladin tank I tried to solo him. Must've been possible I thought. So set foot for him, and after 2 summons he popped up. got him down to arround 30% while I needed a bandage for if it was going to do some serious damage which it did not do. SO I bubbled and bandaged, but it dropped dead while I did so. I can't confirm this but try to solo it as a paladin and just bubble? Was pretty weird to see.

Duo'd with a 64 frostmage and 66 shadow priest (me). Got him on the 2nd fumping. Kept dots + VE up, used shadowfiend for mana restore + extra DPS, frost mage used elemental. Had to use a Super Healing Pot, other than that I "tanked" it easily. VE kept the mage alive. Sold the dagger since I had the Battle Mage Baton.

Some Detail on "soloing" this with my 66 rogue:
1, pop a trinket with 2min cooldown when you see it
2, run just out of his poison range
3, when it's out of combat, use bandage
4, run to avoid poison again
5, when out of combat again, mount, and kite him
6, when cooldown is about 1:45-1:50, ran to him, ss->ss->KS, use potion if nessecery. then he died, you get the loot and 50exp. that's sweet

65 Paladin, on my way by so I dragged a Clefthoof over to the entrance and fumped. First try, Big Bone Worm. Used LOS, waited 1:45 or so, ran up, attacked, bubbled. It auto-died a few seconds later.

Pulled a decrepit kodo to the tunnel entrance and summoned the worm first try, ran down out of LoS, threw a few avenger's shields at him to tag him and waited the 2 minutes for the despawn. Soloed as a 65 Moonkin. I did use Force of Nature and trinket + pot, but it worked. I don't think you should have any problem with him if you're 2 or more. As others have said, when you hit the drum after you've killed a Clefthoof, other worms can spawn as well, however only 2 worms spawned for me, not 3. Good Luck

I got near the vindicators near netherweb ridge and killed a clefthoof. I then dropped wrath of air, mana stream totem. summoned the worm and dropped Earth elemental totem on it.
pretty straight forward the dranei would help out and the elemental would tank the worm the whole fight no problem at all.

Just completed this solo as a level 64 Assassination specced rogue. Basically I followed a couple of the above strategies.

When I got him to spawn, I sprinted out of range and out of combat; beware, he'll dive into the earth and resurface near you once or twice until you get out of range.

I then waited until the 1:50 mark before re-engaging him. I spamed a couple of Sinister Strikes and then popped Kidney Shot to keep myself alive. I managed without a healing pot, but I would recommend one.

A note, you can stun him but you cannot Cheap Shot him. Once you get out of combat range, he will go underground like the patrolling worms you normally see. The only way to get him up is to unstealth near/on him.

Ez mode tactics, just be careful not to pull the clefthoof to close to Auchindoum, because you wont be able to use the fumper as it does require you being in the Bone Wastes to summon the worm.

Well, i didn't use any special method (66 Bm hunter) just an elixirt that gave me 60+ AP.

I sent my pet and i was spamming heal. after some dmg on it i stunned it and then it turned on me. I decided to let it hit me so i could have my pet healed. After a while my mana gone and my pet died but i managed to kill it :)

Note: It is possible to drop out of combat while inside the tunnel and you will not be given credit for the kill. Try to get some licks in and the end of the 2 minutes to make sure you get credit for the kill.

I first summoned him just to test if I were at the right spot, and ofc I summon the Elite in the first try :P and get killed, I checked around here and used the Tactic above (Very awsome and functional tactic) then tried 3 more summons and got him again :)

As a Lock with no Off-hand item I'd preferr the Invincible Stave (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25935) over the Caster dagger though, as Stamina means more for me and it has 15 spell dmg more.

It IS a Green item, but still pretty nice

You only need to be in combat with him when he dies, and you'll be able to loot him. On my rogue, what I did was use the regular LoS strategy, and used my throwing weapon to stay in combat. As a bonus, I even leveled my throwing skill while doing it.

So far I found one strategy that works great and is very much amusing as the same time.

Step one: The key is to kite a Clefhoof from 44, 77 to the Sha'tar Vindicators fighting the Initiates at 36, 78.

Step two: Kill the Clefhoof.

Step three: Use the Fumper and summon. (More likely then not you'll get the elite.)

Step Four: Run to each Vindicator in turn and get hit or shot at. The Sha'tar Vindicators will attack anything that attacks you near them. They even net the giant elite making it unable to move as you recruit all 6-10 elites to kill this creature for you.

This is fun and not hard to pull off. The best part is seeing this crazy battle between NPCs that you just instigated. Enjoy! =D

To those who don't do the tunnel methodology and are working in a group, there is a graveyard on the eastern side of Auchindoun. The clefthooves are fairly close to it to begin with but if you ranged pull a clefthoof close to the graveyard and summon there, you and your friends can die during this fight and immediately respawn, bandage, and get back into it. Hope this helps.

Remarkably easy as a 67 Enhancement Shaman with average gear (about 800-some AP and 20% crit). Here's what I did:

1) Set down Grace of Air, Strength of Earth, Mana Spring, and Searing Totem. Equip a good shield and your strongest weapon. Make sure to keep Water Shield running throughout the entire fight - this is vital.

2) Kill a Clefthoof anywhere that's clear of wandering aggressive critters, summon until you get the worm.

3) Shai'Hulud will hit you decently hard, around 500-700 with 40% reduction. Get in there and use Flame Shock and Stormstrike whenever you can. When you get low on HP (about half health), run away from him and heal. His Poison Bolt hurts (about 1k damage on me), but it's less frequent, which means it has less of a chance of pushing back your heal. Make sure to keep Searing Totem down for constant damage. When your mana dips to about 20%, activate Shamanistic Rage. This will give you some breathing room (30% more reduction is massive) and can restore a huge amount of your mana. Keep repeating the Stormstrike/Flame Shock pattern and he should die very soon.

The only consumables I used for this were one Fel Blossom and one Super Mana Potion. I did this to play it safe, though, as this was my first attempt. After doing it, however, I'm more than confident that it's possible to do without any consumables at all. If you're nervous, just bring along a Super Mana Potion and you should be fine.

I just now soloed this quest on my 66 frost mage. I pulled a Decrepit Clefthoof just outside the eastern tunnel of Auchindoun (43,71). The first summon was 2 mature bone worms. I ran inside the tunnel, and kept casting at the worms from around the corner.

After they died, I pulled another clefthoof and got the elite worm. I did the same tactic by running down into the tunnel and stepping around the corner to get out of LOS. The worm stayed right at the entrance and would shoot poison bolts at me whenever I would step around to cast.

Whenever you stay back around the corner you get out of combat, allowing you to bandage, drink, heal, etc. Just keep damaging the worm whenever you can and he'll despawn after 2 minutes, leaving a lootable corpse.

I got my quest item and completed my quest. Very nice strat and still works very well.

SOLO'ED this today as a 63 ROGUE:

The entire quest chain is solo'able for anyone if you do it right. The first part is simple, just stay stealthed if you are a rogue and then kill the worm. The second part is also very simple so long as you keep your back to the NPC camp so they can help you ( see other notes in here ). And the advice on using the tunnel is excellent for the third part. You need to go attack at clefthoof and then lure him back to the tunnel so that he dies as close as possible to the entrance, but that not to hard. Then, after you bang your drum and run into the tunnel, heal ( you'll need to after the big worm hits you initially ), and then slowly creep up to the worm's red aura and attack it from behind the wall. He won't hit you but you hit him. You may not kill the worm, but it died for me at about the 2 min mark with around 90% health, so that was a nice surprise.

Can confirm that the tunnel method still works. Easily solo'd as a 64 frost mage.

Go to the eastern tunnel of Auch, at 43, 71
Kill clefthoofs and use the fumper until you get the big guy spawn, got him on my 3rd kill.

I was a bit of distance away from the tunnel, so pop a shield/blink or whatever, he hits very hard, and go around just around the first corner of the tunnel, out of his sight, he will get to a certain point and then stop. Any ranged dps can pop out every now and again and frostbolt or whatever, without getting hit by the poison. Meleers can time it and run out when he is about to despawn, which I think is about 2 minutes.

An easy 13k xp, and quite good rewards for a hunter/rogue.

I experienced something odd with this quest - I have done it before with other characters and knew how hard this mob hits, but as a level 68 Shadow Priest I considered myself overpowered and went in for a try ^^
I got him to about 85% when I realised I was out of mana and quickly running out of HP. Basic instinct told me to shield and run which I did.
At one point I noticed he no longer reached me with his toxic spits, but he also no longer followed me underground - he was simply spawned and taking damage from my Shadow Word: Pain. Having found the holy grail, I decided to just run in and out occasionally to refresh that SW: Pain and just settle for a 5 minute long fight.
Once he reached 65% hp, he simply died. There was no one else in the area, I was not using any other spells but my SW: Pain to keep my mana up as much as possible and have the worm take some dmg.

The one thing that may have affected this all, is the fact that the Bone Worm had moved itself into a rock (see image of mounted Draenei Shadow priest with a corpse of the Big Bone Worm in a rock - in case the image gets accepted ^^) - though under normal circumstances he should then evade or even despawn rather than die.
Anyway, he died with 65% hp left and was lootable. Bug perhaps?

Soloed as a 65 Demon/Destro Warlock. Just CoD it, and have your Felguard run all over the place trying to get to where it pops up. I also used a healthstone and a Super Healing Potion, as that first CoD will draw a bit of aggro. Second CoD killed it. Dunno why it was , or why the previous was .

I was ready for a long grueling fight on my prot pally when he collapsed of a heart attack of some sort. Reviewing the log didn't show what happened, and I came here to find out that trick. Still works as of 2.4

Easily done as a 65 lock.

Pull the clefthoof to the ent and summoned. I was lucky and got the worm the first time. I put a corruption on him and ran down the tunnel. Peaked around and put an agony on him. Waited till the dots were about to expire and peeked around again just to get los and put 2 more sets on him. Did this 4 times, he despawned and I looted.

As many already has said, it dies after 2 minutes. I solo'ed it on my lv. 66 Shaman without problem.
I just summoned my Earth Elemental, made him tank, healed him when needed and just outlasted the worm. Sure i could have runned away, but i wanted to try my new skill since i just hitted 66.

When i got the worm to spawn, I sent my earth elemental after him ( the elemental last for 2 mins so it was just enough time for the worm to die) and he kept the aggro while healed him with chain heals and earth shield.

Easy, just took about 5 or 6 summons to get the worm.

Completed as L66 combat dagger rogue. Great advice above!

Used Talbuk Hunting Bow of the Bandit to kite clefthoof towards me, then brought him just inside the shadow area near the entrance ramp and killed him. "Fumped", and after about the 4th mob, the Big Bone Worm spawned. Hit him a couple of times, ran down ramp and around corner and stopped immediately. Popped out once, shot one arrow, popped back and waited. Worm died, looted, turned in quest and picked up Shani's Crysknife. Sacrificed a bit of dagger speed for the additional AP, and the added bonus that rogue's get from +9 Agility. Very nice!

Soloed as a 63 druid. Got the worm on my first summon. DPS in cat form until your about half way down, shift into bear form, Bash to stun when you need a heal, Remember mana pots cause all the shapeshifting and healing can bring it down pretty fast.

Makes sure you have the fumper when you do this quest! I threw mine out of my bags since my party member had one on him. When I went to turn in the quest I couldn't. The only way to get a new fumper was to abandon the quest, which also happens to destroy the Enormous Bone Worm Organs. What a pain!

all i say is Dune. From the fumper to call out the sand worm to the quest rewards.

and before you get the big elite worm you might pull up sand gnomes from the desert. Just kill them and call the worm out again. It will eventually show up

I soloed this as a 65 Rogue. I summoned him, fought to the death, ran back rez'd out of combat reach, healed then went back at him. He is on a timer so if you can out last him you will get this one easy.

Just nuked that 66 elite solo with 65 lvl night elf feral droo.

how it went:

loc
tried with one 65lvl hunter to spawn it for about an hour - pulled clefthhoof by clefthoof near NPC, killed and use drums on it. no success. only 3-4 sand gnomes, or 3-4 warms
after the hunter left..
just for fun pulled one mob again, used drums - and prayed for that elite.
and then it started..
that mob is under 30000 hp, with average BR - 500.
Beared him and aggroed untill my life got 30% then stopped to aggro, and the NPC took it on him. Healed up to 100% turned again . Aggroed again and finished with 15% of life. the feeling was wonderfull :] jumped from my chair.
no pots, not scrolls. just tactics.

I soloed this as a 65 hunter no problem.
Summon the elite worm.
Play dead
wait 1 min 30 seconds
stand up and shoot it, heal as needed
it dies at 2 minutes if you kill it or not

First of all this quest line is available at level 63 not 64 as stated in first part of quest line. Myself a 62 rogue with so-so gear and my wife(a 63 rogue) with a 64 hunter did this with no problem. You have to go east of camp where you original obtained the quest line and find what looks like wooly mammoths and kill them. once the wolly mammoth looking thing is dead use the drum to see if it summons the elite worm . it took us 4 kills for him to spawn. He was a 66 elite and at first the hunter almost died but once the wife and I got into a groove of keeping it stunned by taking turns kidney punching( yes some how they stuck to him) it with 5 combo points the worm never had a chance. the hunter was able to heal up using first aid once we got the kidney punches sticking . My wife got the dagger for her and the hunter got his reward and when i hit level 63 we are going back so i can get the quest line and do it again so i may obtained the nice dagger upgrade for my 63 rogue.

Each time you use the drum you get either 2-3 sand gnomes, 2-3 worms, or the elite worm that gives the quest item. The elite spawned the 12th time I used the drum.

It doesn't hit very hard and as a 70 holy/disc priest a shield + renew every 15 seconds kept me at full health. After about 2 minutes, with the worm at 60% health and me at 80% mana, the worm abruptly dropped dead. If you're a healer I wouldn't waste any mana on harming the worm, just keep yourself alive and outlast it.

Actually, I accidentally learned to solo it with virtually any class....and was able to repeat it on an alt.

1) Try to get him to spawn as close as possible to the ramp that leads down to the center circle of Auch.

2) Hit him a couple times and then make your way towards that ramp. Make sure to stop and smack him a few times on the way if it is a long ways.

3) Once at the ramp, run down it and around the corner (out of line of sight). After a few seconds the mob just dies on his own and you can go loot him.

To clarify further what BrollyLSSJ wrote.

This does work.

The Enormous Bone Worm (and the trash mobs if you are unlucky) will die 2 mins after you bang the drum.

Have a timer running and bang the drum take note of when 2 mins will be up and at 1 minute and 55 Secs pop your head around and use a spell or if you a melee fire off an arrow or put your self in combat anyway you can before 2 mins are up.

Loot.

This quest does suck. As everyone stated before, you have to summon until you get lucky with the big elite worm.

Do your self a favor and ask a hunter to help with the summons. If the gnomes appear, FD will make them vanish. If non elite worms spawn, FD will allow you to walk away without kill'n them.

Soloed as a 66 holy paladin. Was wearing him down and winning slowly and steadily when he dropped dead. I guess spawned mobs only have so long to live before they expire.

Solo'd as 66 BE Holy pally . Man, those groups of 3 Mature Bone Worms are a PAIN! No need to LoH or bubble, or even use pots. Generally a fun fight when you have the Vindicator's help.

Ok so if you were wondering if you can solo this like some of the other "Group" quests, I would advise against it. As a 66 rogue I was getting hit for about 940 a cast. Also this is a lv 65 gold elite version of what you were fighting in the last few quests so it does the same teleporting type deal. You might have to kill a few of the clefthoof's to get him to spawn and on the ones that don't spawn the 65 elite, either two or three of the smaller non-elites will spawn. So just a heads up on that. Oh and as the quests states, the clefthoofs you need to kill are just to the west of Aurchidon.

Some1 showed this trick to my main and I just soloed with my 68 alt. I kept jumping in and out of combat, so I was worried, but it still went down after like 30-40 sec, all I did was hit him with the wand couple of times. Looted and completed, thanx hope that works for you too.

Unable to complete the quest for a number of reasons.
1. The boss doesnt spawn
2. The creatures that do spawn will go underground and are unattackable and untargetable yet they still spit poison at you and your group mates.

This quest reward is further proof that somebody at Blizzard was eating fungi when they designed TBC quest rewards. Three daggers? Whut? What if they put in a quest with three blue guns ... sheesh.

On the bright side ... it was a quest ... it was fairly quick ... and it did give xp.

I would kindly ask ppl here to stop lying in hopes that they be cool. People come here for the RELEVANT info, and the TRUTH is that the elite's help in this Q is close to nothing. This DOES NOT WORK! The elite merely scratches the worm before the worm kills him. The one way i see this possible (maybe) is to be a healer and to heal the elite, watching your aggro.

other ways is to use your pet and heal it like mad, also watching aggro :) and prepare for a LOOONG fight.

We must have summoned over two dozen stupid Gnomes and bugged worms. Finally after reading through this thread, I found one small detail and it worked perfectly: Make sure you target the Clefthood corpse and then beat the drum while having the corpse as your target! Goodluck cause this quest SUCKS.

Soloed at 65. Demonology specced Warlock. Had quite a few buffs however: AI, Fort, food buff and wizard oil. You only have time to drop immolate, CoA and corruption before you need to spam health funnel constantly. In between your pet being relatively safe from dieing dot it up again then quickly get back to health funneling. Took a few minutes, and had several close calls where pet was down to 500 life but overall it was an extremely entertaining fight. Prepare to use healthstone AND your health pots to lifetap in order to feed pet mana for taunts!

The mob despawns / dies after a certain amount of time.... no matter where it is it still dies..

I pulled the Mob then feigned death (hunter). waited 20 seconds. ressed pet. Then killed the mob by healing the pet / autoshot the mob untill time ran out. Easy kill got the loot.

FInished quest with a 65 shadow priest and a 63 pally. Pally healed and shadowpriest done damage. Courds 44.76 were dead on. +to attack power dagger sells the best. just be sure you kill a clefthoof target it's body then bang the fumper he will definatly spawn.

This is one of the worst quests in the game. You have to kill clefthoofs, use the drums, and pray that he spawns. If he doesn't, you kill 3 annoying mobs that give no exp. These mobs can sometimes bug out and attack you from insane distances. After killing over 20 clefthoofs and not spawning him, my group decided to abandon. It just wasn't worth our time.

so i wasnt paying attention to the fact that it was (Group), and half my armor was down to 0 durability, and this guy popped...i stayed alive for a while (67 feral druid) but since my armor was broken i wasnt doing enough damage to him...after about 2-3 minutes, couple bashes and self heals, he was down to 75% and i realized it wasnt going to happen...i run away, and am very thankful to see "Leaving Combat" pop up on my screen. I turn around to see if the worm is still wandering or if he despawned, and to my surprise he is dead and i can loot him. now unless 5 fire mages ran by and PoM pyroblasted it in the 8 seconds it took me to leave combat, he died on his own when i left combat. im not complaining, i finished the quest :)

65 hunter and 64 paladin.
It took more than 10 tries before he spawned. In a few of those tries the smaller worms got bugged - they totally disappeared but kept casting the 1000+dmg spell on us - it was obviously very annoying and killed us a couple of times.

For those who're having trouble with this quest. there's a 62 elite questgiver down there at 49,76. You can pull the clefthooves to him easily, and he will help with whatever pops up. He was the only reason that the trios of worm spawning wouldn't kill my wife and I while doing this, and likely the only reason we managed to down the big one. Hopefully this helps someone.

Need to Know:
- There's a 62 Elite Questgiver at 49,76 (southeastern bonewastes) with clefthoof's near him. Hell help you with the fight if you summon near him.
- Hai'shulud is on a timer, approx 2 minutes, after that time he dies.
- Yes its soloable I did it as a 66 huter but afterwards (with the above advice) a 64 Hunter did it

Essentially hit him a few times, let the 62 elite take him, let the elite die (I didnt do this first time and couldnt loot the mob later), then concentrate on staying alive.

Well its easy had a hard time thinking how to make the quest but finaly i did it.With this post its easy to make.Just go at 44,76 where a lvl 62 elite questiver is.He'll help u out with the worm.Kill a clefthoof but try to kill him near the elite guy.Use the drumm on the dead clefthoof body.If the worm doesnt appear from first try, try the same again.When the big guy appears(hes huge!) the lvl 62 elite guy will help ya out :)

This quest seems to be occationally bugged as stated earlier. Some worms that spawn before the boss spawn underground and are impossible to target and thus impossible to kill. They can however kill you quite easily with their nasty poison DoT.

The fact that the boss does not spawn right away is not a bug. Keep trying to pound that drum and he will eventually spawn.

Took him down as a lvl 64 affliction lock! Was a hard one cuz he cant be feared.. and hit DAMN HARD! he killed the elite dude and my pet but i finally killed him!

First u need to kill a clefthoof(big brown thing) then use the drum! Use it near the elite and he will help you.. used a pot and healtstone, if i shouldnt i would be dead.. he had siphonlife and i drain lifed him all the time.. so pot and healthstone for lock is nice:D

Worm dies on its own after 2 minutes and will not reset, even if you get out of combat. Just survive 2 minutes, it will die on its own (make sure to tag it!) and loot the organs.

Do NOT throw away the drum (Fumper), quest will remain in your quest log and if you do the quest in a party, then you will be able to loot the q item from worm but you wont be able to turn in the quest.

When you abandon the quest to get the drum back, then it will happily discard the q item from worm also. Great design.

I remember seeing clefthooves east of here on the other side of the Bone Wastes. Get out there and kill a clefthoof. Once it's dead, use the drums. Hopefully the big one will come up to feed. If you manage to kill it, bring me its organs!
