Be advised that as of January 29, '07 there is a chance of a bugged spawn to occur in which not only the first attack will spawn non-elites, but every time damage is incurred the 3 non-elites will be spawned. It's easy to get overwhelmed in this fashion - be on the look out, or run the risk of being washed away in a veritable sea of spawned non-elites.

Heres a cheese way to do it:

1) Bring a ranged lvl 70 class that can reach 36-41 yards
2) Fly on top of the building and start plugging away at the soulstealers. They will not evade.
3) The spawn waves will come out but won't attack you on top of the building.
4) Shadowlord Deathwail will now land when the soulstealers are all dead, just wait a few minutes for the spawns to disappear then you can fight him all alone.

Note: I tried this solo but i did not attempt to fully fight him. I attacked him from on top of the building and he did not evade since he does a ranged shadowbolt that only hits for ~1k.

It may be possible to ranged tank him from the roof while taking no physical damage if your group lacks a warrior/druid/pally tank. Though his melee only hit for 900ish on cloth

did this alone 70 lvl shadow priest, it took 10 minutes of kiting, 2 mana pots, 2 shadowfiend, all mobs who chanelling crystal can be killed by point where adds will not touch you, last boss spam shadow bolts with 700-1100 damage, you can fear him and kite him. he is also stuneable.

The process of attunement to the Black Temple begins in Shadowmoon Valley with a very long quest chain that requires trips to the Arcatraz, Serpentshrine Cavern, Mount Hyjal and finally the doorstep of the Black Temple itself. Even if you're not planning on raiding just yet, the chain does offer some nice blue rewards half way through. It starts differently depending on whether you're Aldor (A) or Scryer (S):

Aldors pick up the line from Anchorite Ceyla in the Altar of Sha'tar:
1. (A) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (A) Oronu the Elder
3. (A) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (A) The Warden's Cage

Scyers get it from Arcanist Thelis at the Sanctum of Stars:
1. (S) Tablets of Baa'ri
2. (S) Oronu the Elder
3. (S) The Ashtongue Corruptors
4. (S) The Warden's Cage

At this point the chains converge for both factions:
5. Proof of Allegiance
6. Akama
7. Seer Udalo (Dungeon)

Here, you have to venture into the Arcatraz (which requires a Rogue with 350 lockpicking or somebody to open the door who's completed the Arcatraz Key chain, which requires trips to the Mechanar and the Botanica respectively) to the room just before the final boss. Sadly it's impossible to solo-stealth to. Finding Udalo leads to:

8. A Mysterious Portent
Kill waves of nonelites, 3 elites and a boss (5-man) on a terrace outside the Black Temple:
9. The Ata'mal Terrace
Finally, deliver the medallion to A'dal in Shattrath City:

The chain ends here, and you're granted a choice of rewards:
Akama's Sash (cloth DPS belt)
Bloodwarder's Rifle (gun)
Spellbreaker's Buckler (spelldamage shield)
Ashtongue Blade (phsyical DPS dagger)

However, if you now go into Serpentshrine Cavern and kill Karathress, you'll be able to talk to Seer Olum who'll continue the quest chain for you:

1. The Secret Compromised
Go back to Warden's Cage in SMV and talk to Akama.
2. Ruse of the Ashtongue
Using the Ashtongue Cowl provided, kill Al'ar in Tempest Keep while disguised as a member of the Deathsworn.
3. An Artifact From the Past
You need to be attuned to Mount Hyjal for this. Simply kill Rage Winterchill and loot his phylactery (what is it with liches and their phylacteries?), then deliver it to Akama...
4. The Hostage Soul
...then return to Ad'al in Shattrath City...
5. Entry Into the Black Temple
...then go back to Shadowmoon and talk to Xi'ri on the road leading to the Black Temple. He'll ask you to help with
6. A Distraction for Akama
...but once you tell Xi'ri you're ready (talk to him after accepting the quest), you can watch a scripted sequence that you do not actually have to help with in any way. After this is finished, talk to Xi'ri again for your Medallion of Karabor and the completion of Black Temple attunement. Congratulations, you can now waltz in to Illidan's latest bachelor pad!

But before you go, the chain continues from Xi'ri with:
7. Seek Out the Ashtongue
Time to start exploring the Black Temple! When you find the Deathsworn, they'll give you
2. Redemption of the Ashtongue
...which requires you to kill the Shade of Akama. Finally you're given
3. The Fall of the Betrayer
Yup, kill Illidan. No problem. Then you're done.

Solo'ed this as an affliction lock, stood up on the ledge to kill the 3 summoners and then just chain feared + drained the boss, very easy.

Hey guys, I did this with a group of 3 it was.

Me (ice mage)
Warlock
Shadow Priest (on heals, lol).

We all stood on the roof of the building next to him and shot his friends. When he came the shadow priest healed when needed, we burned him down pretty good.

I tried solo'ing him first with my elemental out but his shadowbolt hit me too hard to nuke him before I died.

As a hunter:

From the roof, kill the three casters around the pole. As stated above, they will not fight back and the melee that spawn will not be able to reach you. When the casters are all dead, wait for Shadowlord Deathwail to land and the rest of the adds to despawn.

Deathwail is susceptible to Freezing Trap, Scatter Shot, and Silencing Shot, all of which are handy abilities for this fight. I also recommend wearing at least two Beast Lord armor pieces for the reduced trap cooldown. Talent points in Clever Traps and Trap Mastery are useful but not necessary (I didn't have them). The fight is pretty independent of gear besides the Beast Lord armor, and even so it'll just require you to take an extra shadow bolt every now and then if you don't have it. You may want to stack a little more HP than normal. Time does not seem to be an issue since I spent about twelve minutes doing the quest, starting from when I fired my first arrow to when Deathwail died; staying alive should be prioritized over doing damage (although doing more damage will reduce the length of the encounter, thus reducing the margin of error).

The general idea is to nuke Deathwail with an Aimed Shot, Multi-Shot, Arcane Shot, and Auto-Shot rotation. When it casts shadowbolt, fire a Silencing Shot to pull it into your Freezing Trap. Run to the other side of the platform and wait for your traps to cooldown. A mod that counts down the duration of your traps is very handy; I recommend Sorren's Timers (found here http://files.wowace.com/). Just as your Freezing Trap is about to expire, charge up another Aimed Shot, etc. combo and pull it into your trap with Silencing Shot. From here, it's repetition.

Some things can and will go wrong. If your trap is resisted, make use of your Scatter Shot to stun him and line of sight (LOS) to avoid his shadow bolts. A good place to exploit LOS is the nook to the right of the building's entrance, as well as the very left corner of the building. This is where the reduced trap cooldown especially comes in handy.

If you trap ends prematurely, do the same thing as if it was resisted.

Because Deathwail will only cast shadow bolts when not silenced, if you fail to pull him far enough to run into your trap with Silencing Shot, use your Scatter Shot and hope that it'll cause him to walk dazedly into your trap. Otherwise, use LOS again.

Be careful when trapping him in melee range. He might land a hit on you before he is affected by the trap, and your character might automatically attack back and break the trap. Make sure you turn your back to him if you plan to trap him within melee range of you. You'll see me do this often.

When he's trapped, that's the perfect time to use bandages.

70 fire mage and 70 feral druid (but healing) duo'ed this.

Standing on the building for killing the 3 channelers works. When the boss flies down to fight, Id advise to go down there. For us, we got him down to ~50%hp when he evaded and went to full hp. We went down and just kited him with Frost Nova/Root.

I dont know if they fixed the roof pewpew or whatnot but you need to go down on the same level as the boss.

One thing I noticed was that even while we were able to kill the soulstealers from on top of the roof, they did not 'look dead' even when they were dead. They stood in the same 'upright casting' position they were in before. The only indication they were dead was that attacking them said "your target is dead".

Duoed this as a 70 arcane-fire mage with a 70 priest healer. I made the mistake of going into the small hole on the plateau on the house to use Evocation when he was at about 10%, and he got full mana and hp back, but we were able to kill him anyway.

I tried soloing it first but it was pretty much impossible. Mana shield drained my mana too much and without it I would have been dead even faster.

To stop the boss evading:

Evasion happens if you are on the roof AND the boss runs out of mana. So either have enough DPS to kill him before that happens, or get down to ground level before it does.

Just did this with an affliction 'lock and hunter (36+41 yard ranges) and a druid ready to pick up any mobs that teleported. (non did) Was a very easy fight.

So this fight is really not soloable for a Mage then? I tried to solo this (didn't expect much) First killed the channelers from the roof over the doorway. Then when Deathwail landed, trying to engage in a ranged fight, it was quickly becoming apparent that I would need help with the DPS and healing. His Shadowbolts were doing well over 1k a pop, and I was quickly dying without even barely putting a dent in him. Even if I had a health pot on me what would have been the point?

I just tried the methods mentioned to solo this quest, but it seems that the non-elite adds now have ranged attacks which make things a lot harder.

I used my hunter to kill the 3 channelers from the roof top (you can move out of LoS to avoid some of the ranged attacks) then quickly logged my warrior and was able to grind deathwail down to 10% before an unlucky fear meant I got adds from inside the building :(

Along with the added ranged dps by adds, Deathwail is now immune to fear.

However this is still extremely easy for a warlock to solo. Kill three channelers and wait for packs despawn. The two close to the building kill from the ledges and the one you cant reach, stand on an invisible column in the corner of the walls, than once they are done wait for ALL packs to despawn than move to Deathwail.

Keep Shadow ward up, and COT. This is important because obviously you take less damage but also it slows the time it takes for him to run out of mana. If you don't kill him before he runs out of mana he will either evade (as mentioned above) or melee you, and you would much rather him throwing off extremely slow shadow bolts instead of reseting or meleeing you.

Also if you use your Felhunter make sure you don't silence him, it will act as the same as him running out of mana.

Solo'd as a warlock as senexlock said above, except i had to wait after every channeler kill for the adds to despawn or they would bow rape me, then when i got to the boss i didnt even use shadow ward i just dotted shadow bolted life tap life drained when i got low and i was about 30% health ahead of his mana with curse of tongues up the entire time.

Myself (a 70 Shaman with a heavy elemental build) and a 70 Druid (heavy feral build) did this quest last night with no problems except one single mistake, where the druid accidentally died from the mobs hitting him through the floor because he healed me.

We stood on the building while I took out the two closest channellers with ranged spells, and waited for the adds that spawned (there are two groups for each channeller) to despawn (which took 3-5 mins each).
We moved around to the wall that has an 'invisible wall' that blocks line of sight, and I took out the final channeller and once again waited for the adds to despawn after the boss had landed.

When the boss is on his own, we stood on the building and took him down as much as I could with ranged dps (which took him to about 2% before I was out of mana) but jumped down just before HE was out of mana to prevent an evade, then finished him off with melee.

Easy 5-man quest if you have enough +spell damage, and someone to heal you through the boss' shadowbolts.

Did this a few minutes ago with me (shadow priest) and a resto shaman. We managed to kill the 2 nearest elites easily since they were close enough for my mind flay (24 yards) and we both used our ranged spells including the shaman's lightning bolts and chain lightning to kill the elite real quickly before the ranged adds could overwhelm us. We waited for them to despawn after killing the 1st elite and then proceeded on to the 2nd elite. After killing the 2nd one we again waited for the despawn.

As for the 3rd elite, neither the shaman nor I had the range to kill the furthest elite. So we had to jump down and kill the 3rd elite real quickly before the wave of adds spawned on us. We managed to do so but died in the process as we had no way of running away. The shaman's ankh was already used previously in a raid so we had to run back. I had to run all the way from the Scryer's graveyard and Deathwailer was still there.

Due to him being too far away from my mind flay, I had to fight him on the ground while the shaman stood on top of the roof. We both DPS'ed down Deathwailer and he was casting shadowbolt and death coil on me throughout the whole fight while my VE heals kept me up the whole time as well as earth shield and after a minute of fighting him, we got him down and finished the quest without too much effort.

Note: Deathwailer will not melee you even if you are on the ground. As long as you are not in his melee range and as long as he has mana, he will keep casting shadowbolts on you.

Can be soloed by hunter with max pet shadow resistance, priest shadow protect and stamina, 1 mana pot and 1 gem:

Start with pet tanking, then get growl off and take agro on yourself, mend pet and then fd. Simple zerg and that's it. :)

Solo'd as an Affliction warlock (41/0/20).

Killed first 2 elites in range from the roof. Nuked the 3rd one down on the ground fast, but got killed by the adds. Used soulstone and flew back on the roof and waited for adds to despawn. Nuked down Deathwail from the roof. All he did is a few shadowbolts, but nothing a drain life couldnt handle.

Soloed as a 70 Shadowpriest. Stood above the door to nuke down the first two channelers, avoiding the ranged bow attacks from the adds. relocated to the opposite wall behind the furthest channeler and killed that. Moved back to the roof and waited for the remaining adds to despawn. Then proceeded to unload onto the 70 Elite guy. took a while, but he dies easily. He deathcoils at low HP, so healed myself up and finished him off. Nice and easy.

To get the third soulstealer (the one furthest from the building), fly over the corner of the wall behind him. It has a sloped invisible wall covering it and you can land on the far side (nearest the outer corner). Start near the bottom and slowly walk up until the invisible wall no longer breaks line-of-sight for your spells. Standing here, I was able to get the soulstealer down to about 10% before any of the retainers (archers) saw me, and even then it was only one. After killing him, take a step back (be careful not to fall off the wall!) to break line-of-sight again and wait for your combat flag to expire. Then just fly up above the doorway and nuke the shadowlord.

Also, sometimes one of the soulstealers will "bug out" while you are attacking him -- he no longer takes damage, but doesn't evade or heal, and debuffs on him no longer expire. The only solution I know of when this happens is to wait for the event to reset.

Solo'd this quest as a protection warrior, took about 30 minnutes. But hell, it was the most funny thing I did in a while! Just pull the ranged adds around a corner, be sure they stay in melee. Then move to the chanellers and "dps" them down, watch out for the fires, be sure you have trinkets/equipment that improves your block rating and value. Also, I found the figurine of the colossus work very well here, it heals a godly amount with all those orcs on you.

Once the elite chanellers are down, move to the right side of the entrance of the nearby building to avoid pulling the "boss". Dps the orcs you got left down, eat up/bandage and get ready for the boss. I pulled him around that same corner to avoid getting respawns on me. Now for that fight, do *not* let any kind of shadow bolt hit you, they do rather heavy damage (around 1k). Be sure you always have rage for spell reflect, and only use it to reflect the "Shadow Bolt". He also does a "Shadow Bolt Volley", which you need to shield bash, or concussive blow. Rince and repeat, and he will be down after about 5 minutes.

That's about it, remember to use your cooldowns, trinkets, potions etc, and you won't need a group for this quest.

(I wore mostly epics from Kara, so I do not recommend trying this with worse gear)

On 17th October 2007 this tactic works no more.

I landed on the ledge, started to shoot one of the elite, and 6 orcs spawned. They were ranged, shooting me with bows for around 300 damage each shot, making it impossible to safely solo the elites.

I just solod this as a lvl 70 balance druid (with about 930 dmg). It took me about 20-30 minutes, but it's doable and fairly easy too. Just make sure you make use of LOS. 2 elites are easily killed from the roof. The spawns are killable, but you can also wait for despawn. If you choose to kill them, lifebloom > their damage. Just nuke the hell of of them.

Once you got the 2 elites, fly to the other side and kill the last one from the other ledge. You should be able to get out of combat after killing him so you can fly to the roof again while the boss lands. If there are still spawns, wait for them to despawn or kill them like mentioned above. Deathwail is fairly easy. Like mentioned above his shadowbolts only do 1k dmg every now and then. Nothing a rolling lifebloom can't fix. First I put my treants on him then I just nuke him down (I did use one innervate and one pot during the fight to be sure).

Soloing this is a major pain because I can't seem to break line of sight on the last of the 3 channelers if I stand on the pile of rocks. This gets me killed and then by the time I get back, rez, mount, fly up to the tower, summon pet, buff up, drink/eat, the boss has despawned.

You can solo this as warlock using the same tactics from solo heroic slave pens.

Get to max distance, dps him hard, get out of range for fears and when he is close to low mana, take him to the stairs around the corner. There you can move up and down the ramp bugging his path, dotting him and using drain life.

Careful of the green Eyes floating around.

Did it with prot warrior and shadow priest. We died couple times but basically the three elites don't respawn very quickly so if the adds kill you just run back and wait for them to despawn. You can actually kill two of the elites from the roof, like it's been stated but the last one is too far out and you'll die by the time you kill it. Anyway, we killed the three and ran back to tank and spank the boss dude. GL.

Did this with a two man group (feral druid and frost mage). Basically the same tactic as above except we wiped. However the adds despawn quicker than Deathwail so we could get back to our bodies, fly back on roof and still finish it.

Did it today using the ranged trick with 2 shamans, it still works. You just have to stay alive through his casts and don't make him evade(by line of sight or running out of mana).

Easy when duo'd from the roof. A good way to avoid the evade bug is to trade agro from one to the other rather than LOS and use a bandage while your partner continues to dps. I did this hunter + mage. Hunter had initial agro and fd'd when he was low on hp. By that time the elite was already at 15% and the mage had more than enough hp to last without needing to switch agro back.

Just a note: the spawns appear to be endless. We thought we'd kill the adds for the third channeler before finishing him off, so we'd have time to get out of range and mana-up for the boss fight. But they didn't stop coming. So if your group is doing the third guy with melee, like we did, try to finish off the last channeler when you're almost finished killing off a wave of adds. Then they'll be almost dead for the boss fight.

FWIW, this was very easy with Feral Druid tank, Fury Warrior DPS and Resto Shammy who are not Kara-ready. We almost managed it without the Warrior, but not quite. I can say that taking out the first two from on top of the building is still ridiculously easy, even for two not-so-great ranged fighters. They get an arrow in there periodically and throw a bomb or two, but that's it.

The boss is a big fat wuss... I switched to cat form, and I was the tank! He's got lots of health, but hits for nothing.

Soloed as a holy paladin. That was one hell of a fight but managed somehow.
First, I equipped my biggest two hander and nuked the channeling orc with all I had there -> rocket launcher, holy shock, judgment spam, hammer of wrath below 20% totally ignoring the orcs that spawned, healing when needed (conc aura up). After that I've jumped off the ledge to the south direction (using a bubble or prot blessing might prove usefull to avoid few hits and dazes) untill I've reached a Black Temple wall, usually the mob train reseted by then, sometimes 2x fel orc slayers came but that's not a big challenge, even at low mana. At this point I had 9 or 12 fel orc archer spawns on the terrace. They despawn after some time but I attempted to make a
"kill run". Kill as much archers as possible before new waves spawn and do\id the same jump-of-the-ledge trick. Ate&drank at mine safe BT-wall sanctuary and flought back again.
There should was none or 3 fel orcs then. That was alright to kill another channeler.

Rinse & repeat till I got them all. I did not count time but channelers respawn seems long enough for me to not panic. Try avoiding dying tho. Get yourself some mana pots (I've used 4 for this quest).

After Deathwail pops out and I got back refreshed from my safe spot I've pulled him around for some time till I found a nice spot on the south-eastern part of the building terrace. There is a small hole that you can enter. What for? When he used fear I didn't move at all. Now just usuall wisdom judgement, holy favor + holy lights, BoP + rocket launcher, bubble + bandage. Use all the tricks you have. I also popped healing power potion and draenic wisdom potion.
Remember to heal up around 60-50% with HL. One nasty combo with you at low health and fear might get you wiped. And the battle lasts around ~20 minutes if not even more.
Used Karazhan quality gear there. 41/20/0 spec.

Solo'd pretty much completely as a frost mage. I first just frostbolted the 2 near the house down without getting all that much hits, I waited for them to ignore me and flew to the back wall and frostbolted the back one down, at this point there suddenly came some shaman and got aggro of about all of them.. so I wouldn't exactly know what would have happened else, but heh I'm sure he'd have died anyhow though I might have died to. :)

Anyway, Deathwail landed, I just put up a ice barrier, icy veins + elemental and shot him from the roof (the elemental does NOT attack on his own on your command, you'll have to wait to get hit... don't ask me why)
His shadowbolts only hit for ~900-1k, spamming ice barrier works perfectly and you can also use ice block to get him on your elemental, to get a quick bandage in, I also used a Mad Alchemist's Potion just for safety but I ended up at 50% HP/Mana so it shouldn't be neccesary.
I'm mostly ZA/badge/Karazhan geared though after the fight I realized using PvP gear to max our you're stamina might be smarted =)

Solo'd as a fairly well geared Feral Druid ~ T4 / mostly badge stuff.

I died a lot soloing it, trying different tactics, but follow below closely and you won't die at all.

The adds are the main problem, but they will NOT follow you of the top terrace if you jump down. The best place to jump down is beside the stairs that lead up to the terrace, there is a fairly big space to one side - jump down here if possible, but anywhere off the terrace will do. If you jump in cat, you won't take damage wherever you jump off. So to do this:

1. Equip a combo of bear + cat gear
2. Cast Regrowth, followed by Rejuvenation
3. Hit cat form, Stealth and get full energy
4. Ravage one of the elite warlocks, and try and get mangle, 5 combo and finishing move on it by the time 6 adds have appeared. The bleed effects are likely to work best if you have mangle up
5. When 6 adds have appeared, go bear (or you will take to much damage and die) and try and finish the warlock off, then jump down
6. Heal, wait for despawn and go again

Emphasis should be on getting off the terrace alive, if you didn't quite kill them you can finish them off (if quick) from the roof (for 2 at least) quite safely even with quite crap spell damage, or heal up and finish in melee. Alternatively just go back and have another go and eventually will get lucky with enough crits to down them.

I didn't die on the boss at all. For the boss make sure you have full mana and again HOT yourself before going in. I would say use dps gear in bear form, or possibly even go cat.

The only thing that hurts is his shadow bolt. If you tank him near the entrance to the building you can get out of LOS using the little holes on either side of the door, which will stop it. You can also interupt it with Bash. Use BASH and re-hot yourself while he is stunned and you should have no problems. If you go cat use maim a lot and you will probably find it very easy. I have shadow gear of over 100 which I didn't use (it was in the bank), if I had then I probably could have done this without even having to heal myself at all!

Quite easy to duo as a frost mage/paladin. Just dps the adds from the roof/sides.. get ooc and kill remaining adds if need be, then kill the boss from the roof or sides.

As a Shadow Preist you can Solo this.
We can't reach from the top roof; but just below that there is an area where ye can stand. if you go to the lef to right off the edge of the top and just desecedn you will land on it.
from here stay at max range, select the nearest one to you and mark Line of sight up so as you can just about cast on him; you should be abel to cast spells on him but no one can attack you. do this for the first two cloesest.
for the third futher away guy; bascially you run out and dps him as fast as possible; then you will be killed. run back fly back to your los edge and you should be abel to take out the main boss from there- he will cast shadow bolts at you just keep shielding and make sure you have +70 resist up. bring 1 mana pot and use your sf.

bit annoying you have to die; but alot easier than getting a 5 man team toghether.

There were a few changes made to this event in the last patch. It is still soloable (by a SPriest anyways) but very very difficult and time consuming I am in ZA/T5 gear and I wiped a good 10-15 times trying to figure this out. The Archers arn't as easy to de-aggro as before and hit much harder and faster, also the re-spawn timer has been shortened and the warlocks will now evade after about every 30% but you can stop the health regen if you can land a direct damage spell on them fast enough. Needed lots of pots and a dozen bandages. Other than what is listed you can still use the same tactics.

This is easily soloable by Boomkins. Just heal, dot and run out of LOS then repeat for the locks, Then straight dps on the boss. You have to be on top of the ledge of the building though.

soloed as 70 lock, took out all the channelers ( died on the third one from the adds ). ran back and engaged the boss from the roof after the adds disappeared. I used shadow ward whenever cd was up, one 2496 hs and a mana pot. he killed me at the same time as i killed him so i ran back and looted. fairly well geared destruction sacrifice spec used buff food, cos and shadowbolt spam, oil would have been overkill

Just soloed this as a resto druid. Killed the first 2 elite casters from on top of the building thing... the last one I had to just get on one of the structures on the edge of the platform. Just used Insect Swarm and Moonfire on the elites while keeping myself healed with a 3-stack of lifebloom while the adds shot at me.

After the 3 elites were dead and the boss spawned, I had to gtfo of there because the adds didn't despawn and kept shooting me. I just jumped off of each platform until I was out of combat... almost ran into Doomwalker in the process. @_@

After I left combat, I flew back up to the top, landed on the building on the top platform, and then started on the boss. Basically, I just kept insect swarm and moonfire up on him while he spammed shadow bolts at me, using a lifebloom here and there to heal myself back to full. After he ran out of mana, I had to jump down... can't remember why I had to jump down though... I think he started evading or something... anyway, he was out of mana so he was meleeing me. Needless to say, I had to keep a full 3-stack of Lifebloom up while I was in caster form, because he hit fairly hard with melee attacks. I kept up the Insect Swarm and Moonfire just like before, along with the 3-stack of lifebloom, with one difference: Whenever I was at full health, I'd throw up a rejuv, pop into bear form, and apply a 5-stack of Lacerate and a Demoralizing Roar. Whenever I got low on health, I'd pop in caster form, Heal myself back up to full, throw up an Insect Swarm and a Moonfire, pop back into bear form, 5-stack of Lacerate and Demoralizing Roar, etc. The fears and deathcoils were merely an inconvenience. Rinse and repeat.

By the way, he didn't death coil or fear while I was running him OOM on top of the building.

I did this today on my Druid Alt, Little Kara gear most Q blues, with a Paladin Tank in Blues and a S2 Rogue.

Paladin took the adds 12-15 per Lock. While Myself and the Rogue killed the Warlock. We then killed Adds. Repeated till all Locks were dead.

It wasnt easy and yer the adds are insane if u try taking all 3 out in a row 12 adds per lock for us so.

aff lock. pre kara geared. went on the roof. got the 2 elites down with dots. they got to about 30% and i left combat. dotted em up b4 they rehealed. made sure i was out of the way so the adds couldnt shoot me. ss'd and took the last elite. after i rezzed from ss. got on roof and waited for the adds to despawn then i started on the last guy. he has about 83k health and kept healing on me and getting his mana back at 10%. after 3 annoying heals i dropped down from the building at 10%. he healed again then feared me and killed me. EPIC FAILURE. how do u stop the healing? BTW never once evaded.

I just solo'd this quest. Very easy, get up on on the roof. above the door. THeres like a little mini ledge there. From there u can kill the 3 summoner guys.. and wait for the lete. From the ledge kill the lete, and done. I did this on Exodar server 70 Shaodw Priest "Decayz". Happy hunting

This is laughably easy as a resto shaman to solo... Just follow the directions posted here to take care of adds, then remember 2 things as a resto shammy... grounding totem, earth shock, water shield and heals... Too easy

As mentioned above, simply stand a good distance away from the orcs channeling, and take them out with starfire, without aggroing the non-elite spawns. Once those have despawned, the boss is rootable. He'll cast lots of shadowbolts, so you'll have to heal yourself until he runs out of mana. After that, just keep a dot on him, and the occasional lifebloom will be enough to keep your hp up from the odd shadowbolt. It isn't a quick process to kill him at this point, but it isn't that problematic.

Soloed him as a 70 affliction warlock.

Killed the channelers from the roof and waited until the non elites despawned. Attacked Deathwail from a position, where he couldn't attack me physically so he only did his pitifully weak shadowbold, which was no problem to compensate with drain life.

I have no idea, if he goes into evade when he runs out of mana by using this metod, he died when he had about 1000 mana left.

Trick is to have one person on the adds, (There are a lot of em) and another burning the elites. Remarkably few HP for elites. Then the big guy drops down Tank n Spank. Shield bash and Spell reflect for all you're worth. The adds just keep coming till you've killed the three with the lightning bolts surrounding the crytal.
3 manned druid, lock warrior...

Getting to him isn't so bad - send pet demolish caster and feign until adds go away.... repeat twice. But he hammers your pet down in a hurry. I was able to get him to 50% on two tries solo.

I followed the same thing Crescrendrek was talking about. I killed the three elites in the center.
- I had to stand on a different wall to get the further one.

After the mobs despawned.
- Put a mana Spring totem down, Grounding totem, Stoneskin totem (or whatever you want).
make sure to stay a decent distance away because he will charge you (only if unable to cast) and hit you for 700+ a hit.

- Opened with Elemental Mastery + Trinket, Lightning bolt
- Then another Lightning bolt.
- He will almost be done casting a shadowbolt. Earth shock him.
- Cast a lightning bolt three times (if you can)

By now he will have casted a shadowbolt and it will have hit your grounding totem.

- Cast another grounding totem.
- Earth Shock again.
- Cast Fire Elemental Totem.

With the fire elemental, constant earth shocks, plus grounding totems you should stay up for a while.
I Ran out of mana and had 16% health at the end of the fight. I used one Health pot. The fight took exactly 3 mins. I used Elemental Mastery to finish him off.

Note: You can run threw him while he's casting, and he wont melee hit you.

My specs:
8859 Health, 7328 mana
625+ spell damage, with 19.72% chance to crit
40/0/21

I jsut solo'd this quest, easy as heck. Just get up on top of the building and theres a ledge like in the middle of the opening and the roof. Like a mini roof.. Kill the 3 lete guys from there.. well actually one u have to get from the pother side.. but jsut jump off and go out of combat. Then when the main elite spawns. wait for the non elites to despawn and with good gear he can be solo'd. 70 Shaodw Priest (Decayz). good gear though. Two tier 5's and all spell strike and shaodw weave. GL

i just solod it as affliction lock with imp out, used 2/2 imp Healthstone, 1 mana pot, 1 health pot

kill the channeler which aint near that building first, since he is stupist one to kill, there is some place where you can attack him, and other where you get out of sight, just try it out

then fly up that building , kill the other two channelers using los

the elite boss will come, he has a lot of hp, and a lot of mana, i did UA, SL, CoA and Corruption on him + drain life at start
later i just kept dots up + drain mana, since boss had tons of mana altough he chain casted shadow bolt

also use shadow ward + dark pact, going out of sight mostly gives him back to full hp, as i wrote, used mana pot, health pot+ hs

Why call him a liar? Cause you can't do it yourself? This still CAN be soloed, i know as i just did it. As a lvl 70 affliction warlock anyway ;))

Stand on the little ledge above the door, you can easily move out of los if you move right back to the corners. Fully dot one of the channelers, then drain life him dead asap. You'll have those archers shooting you by now so kill him quick then walk back out of los of them. Drink/heal up when out of combat and do the same with the other channeler that you can reach. You wont be able to reach the other channeler from there so mount up and fly directly opposite him, to the corner of the walls there. There is a wierd mapping bit at the corner and i was able to land in mid air just above the wall. The archers couldn't hit me there so i was free to kill the last channeler. After this the elite will land. Wait till the archers despawn. Jump down or he will evade, throw all dots on him and drain life. You really need dark pact here as he has tons of health to burn down and you need to keep the dots/drain life up all the time or you wont be able to keep up with the dmg he is flinging at you. He will run out of mana towards the end and melee you and it will hurt. save your hs/pots till then if you can and burn him down. Make sure to have an ss on yourself, cause if you die you have some moments to rez and continue dps before he heals back up.

70 Shadow Priest:
I used the messed up mapping block to reach the southern most channeler. Then went to the building to get the other 2 down.. danced around to avoid the adds bow dmg. When the boss dropped I stood at the closest point to him while on the building and was able to use all my casts to hit him. Had to drop down the the small ledge just over the building entrance to use Mind Flay. Was going well until he ran out of mana. His health went to full and his mana about 40%. I dropped down to the ground and kept going. His mana ran out again and this time he came at me and used a melee weapon until his mana was back up a bit and he went back to casting shadow bolts. It looks like if he cant reach you to melee then his health regens.

If you are sufficiently geared (full kara+) you can duo this with a healer. I just did it with a warlock / resto shaman. It was hard, but fun.

Riding the wall and letting the adds despawn is lame and you should be punished for it!

I assume the change came with 2.1, this is no longer soloable.
The Retainer adds have been outfitted with bows and arrows, dealing (to a 70 elemental shaman) 300-400 per shot.
Unless there is some secret way to be in range of the warlocks, but out of range of the arrows, there is no way to pull this off anymore

08Jan2008: Still soloable. With a resto shaman this time, but in theory any ranged class with a flying mount can pull it off. It's probably harder for non-healing classes.

Location: 72, 34

For the warlock adds: Land on top of the walls around them, and burn them down at range. You need to use the low wall to get the third 'lock, but it's still a safe spot. Archers will spawn, but most will not be able to shoot at you. You can take a few steps back down the reverse slope of the top of the walls (leave LoS) to leave combat and drink/re-mount.

Wait for the adds to de-spawn!

For the boss: Relitively easy, especially as a healer; the hard part of this quest is the archer adds we just got rid of. He alternates between Shadow Bolt and Shadow Volley, doing around 1100 damage per and they can be interrupted. He melees for about 600-700 on mail & shield. He also casts AoE fear, but the fighting platform is pretty clear. I got him down to 200 mana and did not experience his mana-regen bug; he just kept with melee.

Next up: Go to Shat and collect loot. A'dal will NOT offer a follow-up quest. If you're going for BT attunement, the next quest giver is IN SSC; Seer Olum will spawn after killing Karathress and will offer The Secret Compromised. Good luck!

Soloable as a hunter.

1st: Kill the 3 Elites channelling on the table thing from the rooftop.
2nd: Wait till all the non elites are despawned
3rd: Kill him... You can trap him.

So here is what I did:
I had 2 corners. They should be like 41 yards away from each other. In front of the corner I laid a freezing trap. Everytime his Shadowbolt was almost done I ran out of sight. I ran out. Usually doing one SteadyShot und one AutoShot. Then behind the wall again. Obviousley you can't do this forever. So he rans in your freezing trap. Then you go to the other corner and do the thing allover again until he is dead.

Easily soloed on a Feral druid with just some normal dungeon / quest blues. Just go cat form, open up on one of the warlocks with Pounce and then spam mangle / powershift until you have 5 combo points, hit Rip, and then go bear form. Make sure you get the spawned adds in your melee range because their melee attacks do less than half the damage of their ranged attacks. Make sure you use Demo Roar on the adds too so they don't smack you too hard. By the time that 9 or 12 adds spawn you should have the warlock dead, and from there you just run the !@#$ away to make everything reset.

The spawned adds will take about 5 minutes to despawn and then you can repeat the process until all the warlocks are dead.

Once the warlocks are all dead, the boss will come down. Again, just wait for the spawned adds to despawn, and then the boss is relatively easy to solo. He doesn't hit hard at all; was only hitting me for like 400 in bear form. You can LoS his casts using the various walls around the area. LoS as many shadowbolts / volleys as you can. Use Bash to stun him and regrowth+rejuv whenever you can. He also casts Fear but it's a super fast (1 second) cast so it can be really hard to interrupt. He death coils as well.

If you take long enough, he'll eventually run out of mana and stop casting spells. Make sure your health doesn't drop too low since he won't be stopping his melee to cast shadowbolts as often.

But yeah, definitely possible to solo this on a Feral druid. Just takes a good deal of patience.

TBC Classic: Solod as Fire Destro Warlock, in a mix of Phase 1 gear mostly PVP Honor gear but some T4 etc.

Followed the strats in these comments but with some improvisation.

1) Nuke down the closest 2 of the 3 warlock NPCs from the roof, making sure you can LoS the waves of adds who will shoot you. You can drop combat after each NPC and eat/drink etc.

2) Fly over to the opposite corner of the platform, the wall corner has an invisible ledge above it you should be standing on. Nuke the third warlock, and then step backward to the outside of the ledge which should drop you out of combat.

3) Boss lands, wait for the waves of adds to despawn (doesn't take very long), then go back to the roof position from the first part. Buff up + make a Healthstone - Food buff, Adept's Elixir and Brilliant Wizard Oil. I used Demonic Sacrifice with a Voidwalker for the HoT and having over 9k HP from PVP gear helped a lot for survivability, and send it on the boss.
Shadow Ward on cooldown with Healing Potion, Healthstone and Bandage to keep your health up + you may need to life tap a couple of times. I killed him in 1 minute 35 seconds and ended on about 10% health and mana but no movement was required I just tanked all the hits while casting and he didn't move from his initial position.

Description

It has been known to us that the fel orcs, under Illidan's command, have guarded an Ata'mal crystal known as the Heart of Fury at the Ata'mal Terrace. They cloud its presence with dark magic, to keep it from the Sha'tar.

Fight your way to the Atam'al Terrace outside the Black Temple and turn your eyes to the sky. Shadowlord Deathwail will circle the terrace, beyond your reach. You will have to slay him and his warlocks before you can obtain the crystal.
