Learn how to defeat the Artifact Challenge encounter,
An Impossible Foe
, as a Outlaw Rogue. In this guide, we'll go over optimal talents, legendaries, gear, consumables, and spec-specific tips. This guide is written by
Gray_Hound
, a Rogue in SPK. You can watch Gray_Hound on
Twitch
.
This guide is about the Legion version of the Mage Tower Challenge, that isn't accessible anymore.

Outlaw - Fencer's Reach
Video for Scenario
This is the kill by
Zzat
from
Tesseract
.
Gear
Generally I will recommend to have ~915+ item level before you start it. However if you have recommended legendaries you can attempt it at lower item level.
Consumables
Drums of Fury
Flask of Ten Thousand Scars
Koi-Scented Stormray
or
Lavish Suramar Feast
Defiled Augment Rune
Potion of Prolonged Power
You can use a
Lightblood Elixir
but it isn't necessary to complete the encounter a standard flask can do just fine.
Talents:
Below are the Talents/Legendarys I recommend using. Some of the possible swaps are :
Death from Above
- Good for clearing out Imps with BF on ,
Vigor
- If you feel like you're struggling with energy (due to feinting)
Legendarys:
Due to nature of this being a solo scenario, some of the legendaries excel far above their usual usefulness.
Greenskin's Waterlogged Wristcuffs
Helps a lot with making the fight go by quicker.
Mantle of the Master Assassin
Still exceptional due to being strong damage legendary.
Insignia of Ravenholdt
Good due to constant cleave potential.
Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish
Good for quickly clearing out adds.
Most of the other legendaries will still have some value, so don't despair if you don't have any of those 4.
Doing the Scenario
This Scenario involves a lot of cleave as such it may be tempting to keep
Blade Flurry
up, this is not a good idea however as the adds aren't particularly difficult to deal with especially at higher item levels and with the traits we have today. So just toggle it on/off as you feel it is necessary. This challenge is tuned to be one of the easiest out there so theres not too much to it.
Agatha
(105mil HP)
Phase 1
Shadow Stab
- A simple, uninterruptable spell that does minor damage.
Dark Fury
- Surrounds Agatha with an absorb shield that prevents her from being interrupted. She then channels a spell that deals increasing damage until interrupted. Cast when Agatha reaches 100 energy.
Agatha's Fury
- Whenever an imp dies, Agatha will fire a projectile at locations dealing moderate damage.
Phase 2 (Once she reaches 50% health mark)
During this phase, boulders will be summoned down one of three lanes but always fall from top to bottom. Getting hit by a boulder will deal massive damage and stun you. Avoid these at all cost. Agatha will periodically teleport away to the other side of the room and players must traverse the boulders to continue their assault on Agatha. You can quickly reach the other side as a rogue however so this is not much of a concern.
Shadow Stab
- A simple, uninterruptable spell that does minor damage.
Dark Fury
- Surrounds Agatha with an absorb shield that prevents her from being interrupted. She then channels a spell that deals increasing damage until interrupted. Cast when Agatha reaches 100 energy. Be sure to break the shield and interrupt the cast.
Agatha's Fury
- Whenever an imp dies, Agatha will fire a projectile at locations dealing moderate damage.
Fel Lava Blast
- Agatha will send Lava projectiles towards the player for the rest of the fight.
Imp Types
Smoldering Imp
(3mil HP) - These imps cast
Fire Bolt
which deal increasing damage every time a cast is successful.
Imp Servant
(3.5mil HP) - These imps will run directly to Agatha and will attempt to heal and increase her damage for the rest of the fight.
Umbral Imp
(2mil HP) - These imps will make Agatha completely immune to damage.
Fuming Imp
(2mil HP) - These imps will run to the player and then cast
Plague Zone
at their location, dealing damage in an area and creating a pool of poison. You can kill the imp before it reaches you to prevent
Plague Zone
from going off.
Strategy
Your cooldowns are best used on the pull alongside
Drums of Fury
. The adds all die relatively quickly so your damage intake isn't too much of a concern, if the Imp Servants are out focus on them, but their heal isn't too disastrously bad so don't use cooldowns on them unless necessary,
The most important things to remember for this encounter are to kill
Umbral Imp
as quickly as possible, and of course to dodge the boulders. If you can execute those mechanics properly you will have a very easy time with this artifact challenge.
On this fight your
Roll the Bones
will be different from the usual one, as you will value
Grand Melee
above the rest (with the exception to
True Bearing
). Don't be afraid to reroll a couple of times early on if you need to. But with 60+ traits and 915+ item level what you roll isn't as important as it used to be.
You will want to make sure you always swap and focus kill the Imps as they are the most important part of the fight. The only exception can be made when you are dpsing down her shield during Dark Fury and you can break it quickly.
Fuming Imp
- due to the puddles after their death you want to position them well and on either the outsides of the platform or directly under Agatha. Again however room isn't really an issue with how quick this challenge is at modern gear levels.
Save
Sprint
for when she
Umbral Imp
so you can get to her and begin dpsing again as quickly as possible.
