I love being a miner/herbalist in winterspring. I run the same path through the zone over and over and regularly make around 40-50g/hour, depending on whether or not I'm lucky enough to get the black lotus nodes or an arcane crystal. Icecap and mountain silversage are a nice regular source of money.

If you have a good UI mod, you can mark your map with the locations of each vein you find. Eventually, you'll find a good pattern to follow to mine them. If I'm on a thorium farming trip, I'll run from the North (near Marshall's Refuge) along the mountainside to the South, then up the middle past the mountain. If you're able to mine them, a couple of rich thorium veins pop up on the eges of Fire Plume Ridge.

Once you hit 245 head to the Blasted Lands. It is hands down the best place to mine from 245 to 300. If you look at the map posted here you can see a bunch of nodes that were farmed in an area above Nethergarde Keep, they appear to be in Swamp of Sorrows. This is not the case, those nodes are indeed in The Blasted Lands. There is a relatively large mine (the two entrances of which are located on the map as well) that has a very good concentration of Small Thorium Veins and Mithril Deposits in it. It is called Garrison Armory.

Again, this area is BY FAR the best place to lvl your mining from 245 to 300 due to the fast respawn rate and the size of the mine that the nodes are located in.

NOTE: There are mobs that range roughly between lvls 46 and 48 located in this mine, this may pose a slight problem for those in a similar lvl range, however, the mineral yield is well worth the effort and who knows you may just get a lvl or so while farming.

I tried Silithus, Un'Goro, and Tanaris and this area has lvld my mining much faster than any of those. I get at least 2-3 lvls in about a 5 min time period. I am currently 289 and climbing.

WPL worked fine for me... I more or less cruised between the two plaguelands all the way from 245-300.

well i did mine here and my skill went from 240 till 275 just by alt tabbing to this page and look where the veins are there quite precies works fine for me no need for addons ;)

Blasted Lands suck for minerals. Just wanted to express that since someone posted that it's "ideal" or whatever to level to 300. It isn't. Don't waste your time.

Small Thorium Veins turn yellow at 270 mining skill.

Green at 295 mining skill.

Here is my gatherer report after going from 250-285 mining skill in the blasted lands.

The armory (Caves) at the top of the map are nice, but I found that I gathered just as much thorium/mithril from doing a loop around the area and especially in the serpents coil on the east part of the map.

As a level 70 Alliance I found that to level from 245 to 300 WPL and EPL provided the best small throium vein yield. Also, when you hit 275 you can start doing full loops of EPL that provide many skillups and tons of thorium you can later sell.

Just farmed EPL for an hour. What did I find?

- 2 Small Thorium Veins
- 2 Rich Thorium Veins
- 1 Gold Vein

I circled around the ENTIRE zone and was very annoyed, since I couldn't even mine the rich veins. You're probably better off in the Blasted Lands

There are only 2 or 3 nodes in the Nethergarde Mine and they don't respawn quickly at all. I got six points very quickly but then no respawns for almost 10 minutes.

I was just in the mine earlier today for about 45 minutes. Was able to get 7 Thorium and 5 mithril nodes. Went in at 263, and walked out at 275. Taking a stack of thorium, and over half stack of mithriil. I'd say the mine is well worth it. Two or three more trips in there will get me to 300, without stepping foot in OL.

Now after TBC thorium is a grade crossing to reach the fel iron ,than the adamantite many competitive zones like Silithus, EPL are empty.

I lvled from 245-275 in blasted lands in Garrison Armory(and i confirm its a gr8 place to skillup)
than i tried EPL and Silithus: the first was good but nothing special found 5 rich thorium ore in around 60 mins, the second,Silithus, amazed me, in each Hive u can find from 2-to 3 rich Thorium(if ur lucky ofc) and also in zones around hives u can find both rich and small thorium ore,plus now all insects are non elìte so easly killable.

A good suggestion would be to run with horse over the hives so u can see if there is any ore inside without going down.

DON'T neglect your enchants! +5 points in mining can mean a skill up or another circuit and loss of time and money. I put Advanced Mining ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=13841 ) on a pair of shotty gray gloves around 230 mining and was to hit veins I would otherwise have to pass up if I were a few points shy. I recommend starting out with a pair of gloves with mining on them. They came in REAL handy at 240 when I went to Garrisons Armory in Blasted Lands. FAST skill-ups!

An interesting note: Due to the increased drop rate of arcane crystals in all thorium veins. For a very short time(275-280) Arcanite Keys can be a good substitute for Imperial Plate bracers for getting some skill up.

Transmute Arcanite is:
Thorium Bar x1
Arcane Crystal x1

Arcanite Key x2 is:
Arcanite Bar x1
Dense Grinding Stone x1 (4 Dense Stone)

This compared to...

Imperial Plate bracers:
Thorium Bar x12

It should be noted Arcanite keys are of yellow difficulty when you train them at 275, but for those 5 blacksmithing levels its well worth the risk over the orange skill Imperial Plate bracers to save yourself some money/time.

The number of small thorium veins in tanaris is wrong. I mined there about 30 veins. Aspecially at the east cost and around the cavarn of time.

I thought Un'Goro Crater was the best, i went to Garrison Armory in Blasted lands like all the above posts said, i purposely got myself lost in there looking for mines and i got one, maybe 2 mines in about 15-20 minutes of looking around. I'm not sure why, it seems like everyone in this thread agrees that Garrison Armory is the best place. I was convinced that somebody must've gotten there before me so i went back in, same result. Came out about 15 minutes later frustrated, i decided to give it one last shot, again same result. I got angry and hearthed to Crossroads.

From Crossroads i went to the next closest zone with thorium veins, Winterspring. It was just as bad ,went down south and found 0-1 in only half a run, i did not wanna go through what i went through in blasted lands so i gave up there and went to Feralas

I didn't stay long at Felwood i just went to the corrupted moonwell and found 1 thorium mine and left because by looking at the wowhead map found posted above here of Felwood all the condensed places where there were mines were occupied by mobs. So i flew all the way down to un'goro, it seemed like a good place acording to the wowhead map here. Damn...10 minute flight time :(

At Un'Goro i ran around the right side of the crater and found maybe 1-2 veins a run which is terrible but it was better then the other zones i visited.
If you do go to Un'Goro be sure to stop by the gorilla cave near the town, then make a left and look to your right and you should see a small narrow path, sometimes theres a vein there and take every ramp up, and hug the cliffs.
Also be sure to take that small path into tanaris and look around that area, where the dots are located.
The Slithering Scar where the bugs are located also spawns a vein outside.

I was a a level 60 hunter when i did this with an epic mount and i still speant almost 6 hours trrying to level my mining from 250-300 it was HELL!

Long story shot:
Badlands - I hated it 10 points an hour for me
Winterspring - Mobs are too high, better for rich thoriums.
Felwood - I guess its an alright place, although i wasn't here long because you really need to fight to get the mines.
Un'Goro Crater - Hated this place too but it was the best out of the rest of them. It had about half small thorium & half rich thorium and a few mitheral, iron & gold deposits which are rare. (you should still mine them anyway because a thorium can replace them and the extra gold is nice)
- Be sure to go into Tenaris while your circling around Un'Goro
- Be sure to visit the Gorilla cave near the town, make a left and on your right there should be a narrow path, a vein sometimes spawns there.
- In the middle there is a fast spawning rich thorium
- Check the Slithering Scar also(the bug place), sometimes a vein spawns outside
- It seems like on the left side is mostly rich veins and on the right is small veins, in the middle is mixed.

I say try badlands first, if the first 1-2 runs don't go well then head to Un'Goro

I suggest downloading the latest version of the Gatherer addon, and then download the www.wowhead.com/tbc database for ores/herbs/treasures. Works like wonders. You can find both the addon and the database at http://www.gathereraddon.com/dl/ You install both of them as a normal addon. Then u open up WoW and check at the "addon" button that they are working. Then you enter one of your characters and press the gatherer button at your minimap (right-click) then you press config. Then just bove the "HUD" tab you press the "Database tab" and import the data. As of patch 2.4 Truesilver Veins can take the place of small, rich, small ooze covered, and rich ooze covered thorium veins.

i think the veins in garrison armoury has been reduced or sth. like the above posters, 30 min no veins. found a mithril one though

That ungoro rating is a flat out false percentage. I found more in silithus than in ungoro and i ahve the gathering addon. Spent 2 hours in ungoro and silithus each only found 4 veins, 3 in sil and 1 in ungoro.

wow.. 2 hours... well hey, i spent about an hour in Searing gorge and found 5 veins, plenty of mithril veins, 3 gold veins, 2 iron veins, and about 4 darkiron veins. but if you really want to do it the easy way.. once you hit lvl 245, if your lvl 70 trying to lvl mining up. just go into BRD and farm that. you are garronteed atleast 3 lvls. every time i have gone in i usually find atleast 3 Dark Iron veins. have never found just 2, or just 1. its always been 3 or more atleast. but for small thorium veins, i would say Searing gorge would be the best place... and once you hit lvl 275, (270 if you have the advanced mining enchant) go to Silithus. and Silithus will get you on up to 300.

A really good place where i have seen no1 mine is a little cave as u enter Badlands, the cave is to the left. it is really good for thorium,mithril and at some times truesilver

I ran into the problem where I leveled faster than my mining skill could keep up.

I leveled 58 and was heading to dark portal and when I was running by Stonard I noticed many mithril, truesilver and small thorium veins show up underground Stonard. I investigated it and just at the entrance of Blasted Lands there is a Garrrison mine. It's a big mine and I found over 8 veins there. Great spot if you're over lvl 55 so no aggro.

After that I proceeded to Burning Steppes and leveled from 270 to 300 in less than 3 hrs. I found Burning Steppes perfect because the mobs density is very low compared to other zones.

Made over 100g from the auction house from the ore sales too :)

It should be noted that alliance cant mine the mines in Garrison Armory.

This might seem very nice for mining The small nodes in Blasted Land.. but alliance players cant mine the veins inside the nethergard keep armory so dont go here if you need to lvl your mining as an alliance, try WPL or Un'goro instead.

For Horde players, Blasted Lands is the best place.

In roughly 1 year (or more), I never saw an Arcane Crystal drop from a Small Thorium Vein. In the last 2 days, I've gathered 5 Arcane Crystals from Small Thorium Veins. Either I've hit a silly run of luck, or the drop rate has gone sky high. Always mine Small Thorium Veins!

Mining Thorium Ore from Small Thorium Vein requires level 245 skill & Rich Thorium Vein requires a level 275 skill.

For small thorium veins, the previous comments are a bit outdated. Felwood has been the only place out of any lists of zones for thorium that actually have consistent SMALL thorium (which is mineable at 245, as opposed to Rich thorium which is higher). Look around perimeters and caves, you know the drill.
