To Smelt the Dark iron you will have to go to BRD. When you are at the seven dwarfs room speak to a dwarf ghost, he will teach you the skill some materials are required as well.

Dark iron also fills in an annoying gap between mithril deposits (which go green at 225 mining) and small thorium veins, which require 245 mining. If you're facing problems skilling up on mining, this may help tremendously.

Mining Dark Iron requires 230 skill in mining, but the only way to learn how to smelt it into bars is by speaking with Gloom'rel, a ghost in the Summoner's Tomb in the Blackrock Depths and giving him 20 Gold bars, 10 Truesilver bars, and 2 Star Rubies. After you speak to Gloom'rel, a bowl will appear at his feet. Touching the bowl will give him his tribute. Speak to him again, and he will teach you to smelt.

It is important to talk to Gloom'rel before any other dwarf, as Doom'rel will begin the event to open the door, requiring you to kill Gloom'rel. Dead dwarves make poor teachers.

Unlike most smelting normal ore, it requires 8 Dark Iron ore to create a bar of Dark Iron. Dark Iron can only be smelted at the Black Forge deep in the instance. You should take this into account, as many of the smithing recipes require as much as eighteen Dark Iron bars. That translates into at least 144 Dark Iron ore.

Also, Gloom'rel will remember that you paid him, so if you ever decide to temporarily drop mining as a skill, you can relearn the ability to smelt it again at a later time, by simply paying him a visit.

You can only smelt Dark Iron at the Black Forge.

any1 on Ghostlands wanna learn to smelt dark iron? íve been waiting fora couple of days now and im getting pretty bored. btw dark iron bars sell for alot more then ore. On Ghostlands bars sells for 8g per piece, that means 1g per ore. In ore u get about 4g for 20, translating into 20s per ore.

The most useful reason to keep this post-TBC is that Warlocks need 25 Dark Iron Ore for their Epic mount quest. As such, don't just vendor it, sell it to locks :)

Thank you for the information on Dark Iron.

I am wondering if Blizzard* would make it easier to get the ability to learn to smelt Dark Iron. Because since the Burning Crusade Expansion, rarley people will do high end non Outlands instances now.

I is too far out of the way to travel with a group 90% into BRD just for an ability.

Anyway i would like your comment for those would would like to make Weapons and Armor using Dark Iron but couldnt be bothered anymore.

Interesting drop this evening in Searing Gorge. The same mining attempt on the Dark Iron deposit gave me BOTH a Blood of the Mountain and a Black Diamond. On Scarlet Crusade, that's about 75G.

Mining Dark Iron Ore requires level 230 skill.
After level 280, nodes become Green, but can level your Mining up to level 300.

Looks like outer world (non-dungeon) Dark Iron Deposits are missing from the initial SoD P3 launch.

This object can be found in Burning Steppes (116), Searing Gorge (80), Alterac Valley , Arathi Basin , Blackrock Depths , and Molten Core .
