One of a few possible dark keepers. They only spawn after you examine the picture inside the black vault.

Bethek tends to spawn (with four elite guards) right in the middle of the vault, so prepare for a right before you examine the picture. Else he patrols between the vault and the chief architect's spawn.

Seeing as I was just murdered by Dark Keeper Bethek as soon as I activated the portrait, I have to disagree.

If you alt tabbed to read his name and your not stealth at the moment then your probably dead. he spawns about 15 yards from the sign his name is on and patrols back and forth in the room. easy if the room is already cleared a pain if its not because the room aggro's together.

dropped bethek and vanished, ate to full health then looted the key . waited for my vanish to be off cooldown (unless you have prep just incase you aggro more). went to the dark coffer opened it up and looted my goodies :)

I have found a really nice tactic *if* your group is to wipe on this guy, and you have a rogue in your group.
Bethek comes with 4 guards, atleast he did when we got him. What I did was to use Distract on Bethek and a few of the guards, not all the guards, then sap Bethek. When the remaining guard(s) start going and the distract 'wears off' the other guards will follow, and Bethek will stand alone.
You can then pull Bethek without having the guards coming.
Also, if you really want it easy, which we did because we were only 2 people there when we killed them, is to do the same thing with the guards, distract on 1, 2 or 3 (not all), sap one, wait for them to leave and then kill the sapped one.

This is ofcourse a VERY situastional tactic, but hell, it made our day.

My 5-man grp and I looked all over for this guy after seeing his picture in the frame in the Vault room. We searched the entire first half of BRD, but when we got to the Lyceum we had to stop. Didnt see him anywhere...

When I was trying to solo this earlier today, I got Bethek.. Next thing I know, he, his 4 guards, and the rest of the room (because I didn't kill them) are all attacking me..

A quick vanish, and he went back to his patrol - from the dark coffer to the outer doorway and back again.

He is patrolling the area from the Architect to the Dark Coffer itself! The easiest way to get the key if you ask me =), just wait by the coffer and he will come to you.

I was killed too during looking on picture. Bethek with 4 guards patroling room with vault. I killed him and vanished.

I had a 60 rog help me do this (ima 60 druid btw. all he did was distract the guards and when bethek got away form his guards we killed him got the key and restealthed.

When I read the portrait in the dark coffer he appeared with 4 guards and just pats in the coffer room. Maybe try and read the portrait first.

This guy spawns right by the portrait once you've opened it. He's got 4 lvl 52-4 elite guards, and paces from the coffer to the vault entrance.

He's doable with a 60 rogue if you wait by the coffer, sap one of the guards as he walks past, then backstab/ambush the keeper and hit evade.

You'll probably need a health pot here, due to the extra 2 guards. You can happily kill kim, vanish, then loot the corpse when the guards wander off. You can do it without aggroing the mini-boss and his pointless demon dog (who can't see you when stealthed).

He patrols from The Black Vault to the door leading back into Shadowforge City, and has four guards that patrol with him.

Most comments about getting the Dark Keeper Key say to skip this keeper because of his four guards and his precarious spawn location. However, in WoW Classic, I was able to solo this guy as a 60 Rogue. Here's how I did it:

Talents
First, I was in this spec, not intentionally for Bethek, but because I was experimenting with it while running lowbies through SFK and Cath Lib. I feel like the only thing that is actually important about this spec for Bethek is Improved Sap.

Strategy
I didn't kill Warder Stilgiss or Verek, or any of the trash mobs outside the Black Vault. First, I opened my typical 11 coffers. Then read the painting, which spawned Bethek. Immediately Vanished so I wouldn't aggro anything. Then, go back into the coffer room, and stand near the rear wall, near the Dark Coffer. Bethek and his four guards will come into the room momentarily, and pause near the back wall. When the guards are at the furthest point in their patrol, sap one of his guards. Bethek and the other three will continue their patrol. Wait until they are in line with Stilgiss. Once that happens, attack the sap'd guard. I personally just used Cheap shot and Kidney Shot when I could to keep him stunned. While fighting him, backpedal into a far corner, and jump into one of the open vaults. The guard will follow you up until the vault door. He won't de-aggro, and will still be in range. You can keep attacking him and kill him. Once he's dead, start eating to heal back up. You will likely spend the whole next patrol from Bethek eating. Once at full health again, sap another guard when they get near the rear wall once again. Keep doing this method until it is only Bethek alive. Then you can take him out easily on his own. Note: If at anytime your Imp Sap doesn't proc, and you get knocked out of stealth when trying to sap a guard, just Vanish. Also recommend waiting for your Vanish to become available again before resuming the strat (or just using Prep, if you have it).

The point is, if you are right along the back wall and can use Imp Sap on one guard at a time, you won't aggro Stilgiss or Bethek (when he returns on his pat) if you are back in the far corner, inside a vault. You can take out the guards one at a time using this method, until you have Bethek alone.

Also to note, Bethek will cast a debuff on you called "Amplify Damage," which increases all physical and magic damage you take by 100%. It doesn't last long (I don't know exactly, but I noticed it when it had 7 seconds left and I didn't have it very long before that, so probably starts at 10 seconds). When you have this debuff would be a perfect time to hit him with a 5 combo point Kidney Shot.

As a rogue, wait in the room before The Black Vault. When guard and Bethek are near the exit, use Distract on all 4 guards, but make sure it doesnt distract Bethek. He will keep patroling to The Black Vault room, when he is near dark coffer, attack him and kite to one of the corners where u can kill him. Make sure u interrupt his Fireball, it hits for over 1.5k. Other than that, he has low hp and low armor.
