A silly 3% faster riding reward from killing this boss is hardly a 'bomb' item. Being able to move a tad bit faster may save you once or twice, or allow you to get to flags a bit faster or whatever your style may be, but it takes up a trinket slot. 3% is only a teaser. With the carrot, glove enchant, and spurs, you can recieve a total of 15% increased mount speed. Used with some very easy macros, you can even have all the item switch in and out of slots at you mount/dismount. So the only slot it wastes in an inventory slot. And I would hope you have plenty of those.

Trinkets cannot be swapped in combat, so in order to move a bit faster you are sacrificing something like a counterattack lodestone, blackhand's breath, eye of the beast or other useful-if-you-need-to-fight item.

I will certainly admit that being able to move a bit faster can be fun and useful at times, especially in PvP, but that does not make this quest reward 'da bomb'.

Worth getting if you are already planning on going thru Zul Farrak, but not if you are an engineer and already have a dozen other trinkets taking up space IMO. Certainly not the be all and end all that calling it a 'bomb' would imply.

I am almost inclined to use the older implication of the reward being a bomb - that is, something that blows up in your face and/or does not go as planned. Just my opinion of course.

As well, am I the only one that thinks it is very unbalanced of Blizzard for folks to need to quest against an entire city of level 48-52 elites in the Hinterlands in order to make the frikkin hammer to summon one level 46 elite in Tanaris????? For a dungeon that is mid-high 40's....that is a bugger of a hill to climb (literally - you climb 2 ziggurats in the hinterlands to get the mallet)...almost makes the actual run thru Zul Farrak anti-climactic

I know thousands have done it....but come on...that is just dumb.

Fairly easy kill once you summon him. Remember to clear the room before doing so.

The boss has the ability to knock players high up in the air.

You need to summon gahz'rilla

How to summon:

First, you need to head to The Hinterlands. Go to the Altar of Zul. At the top are two elite mobs, Qiaga the Keeper and Morta'gya the Keeper. They should be no problem for a group of level 46+. The Sacred Mallet drops off of Qiaga.

Next, you need to go to Jintha'alor, namely, the altar at the top. You'll fight your way through level 45-50 elites on the long trek up. At the top is an ampitheater, with the Altar of Jintha'alor in the middle. On it is Elder Torntusk, a Horde NPC. After clearing the mobs, stand by the altar and right-click the Sacred Mallet. This will transform it into the Mallet of Zul'Farrak.

Notice that the mallet is very hard to get. Do this with a party

The chain to summon Ghaz might seem pretty ludicrous, and indeed it is but it's not altogether worthless. As long as you get all the other Jintha'alor quests from Revantusk before you go, it's an incredibly rewarding run, better than a lot of instances IMO. I ran a 3-man all the way through and really enjoyed the whole thing, so even though Ghaz'rilla himself doesn't give any insane rewards for the most part, it's worth doing along with the other quests.

I'm surprised only one person mentioned the reference the Godzilla. Anyways, he is a fairly easy boss and is only worth doing if you find someone else with the Mallet. I just happened to have someone with the mallet in one of my groups.

Mark this negative if you must but I ran Zul'Farrak just now with this quest upon me, and he didn't drop the Charged Scale of Gahz'Rilla. I don't know why, but it was either because I died during the fight(but I was still able to loot him once I got back from the dead), or I have to ring the gong on my own(My buddy rang it). If anyone knows the answer please tell me, it would be appriciated, I am baffled.

how to move fast : 2 trinkets and needed - riding crop and carrot on a stick. u also need mithrilspurs and gloves enchant.
Then u can nearly run as fast as a pala :)

I found that if you position the tank under the awning part of the corridor leading from the pyramid event, when ever he gets knocked up, that ceiling will stop his ascent instantly, ensuring he keeps aggro.

I love icicle and when he stomps or uppercuts or wtvr he does and u jump in the air! :P be very careful cause it inflicts 500-800 damage!:)

i know this is off topic but:
I am beastmaster hunter and have +8 speed on riding! also have mithril spurs, that trinket and i have around +78% on a White ram! am dwarf! :) its awesome! :P when i am 69 i will get the riding crop so i will have the enchant, the mithril spurs, the trinkets and the talents! about 130% with epic mount! :)))))

Solo'd today with a lvl61 Fire Mage. Drank an Adept's Elixir prior to engaging and needed no healing or mana pots during the fight. Did use Slow Fall to counteract the fall from his slam when I got too far away from the wall. Ended up landing atop the wall, but he climbed up after me. Solo'd him yesterday with a lvl60 Resto Shaman using the same technique of backing up against the wall located on the far side of the pool behind Gahz'rilla. This way you only have to clear that end of the pool and the one basilisk patrol.

It should be noted that since the 2.3.0 patch the mobs around Jintha'Alor and The Altar of Zul in the Hinterlands are no longer elite. To get each of my 60's the Carrot on a Stick took a total of about 15 minutes, with the longest time spent flying between locations.

He has a massive AoE kick that sends everyone up in the air, so healers should kind of stay away from this guy. I fell in the water and still died, so overall I'd just stay far from him unless your a tank.

To spawn this mosnter in Zulfarak you need this iteam https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=11435#comments:id=306206 but its only pick you need actived it in Hinterlands on coordinates 59 77 ON Jintha'Alor Altar i make it with druid at lvl 47 i always go prowling because there is monsters lvls 47-52 its dificult

I just soloed this quest from beginning to end as a 60 Rogue. Pretty easy, but Gahz'rilla was a bit of a challenge. Stealthed to the Altar in Hinterlands and killed the two elites for the mallet, stealted to the altar in Jintha'Alor and got the mallet charged, then vanished. Gahz'rilla was a bit more difficult though. Since he casts when you get out of his range, I just beat him in the face until I was at low health, then backed off and bandaged up (keeping him targeted, or else he'll heal) then went back in for the finish.

have everyone mount and just run thru- turn left then up to the pool. IF YOU JUMP IN POOL you will lose aggro!

climb out clear a few around the north of pool then summon. So easy.

Well i joined a PUG and was given 4 Quests. We completed all 4 which leveled me from 40 to 41 and i came away with "The Carrot on a Stick" too!

i count myself very lucky, but good to know if a guildie has got it and can share with you.

Hit him with a few spells, shifted to bear. When I started to get low on health, switched back to heal myself, then right back to bear, etc. etc. Took about five minutes.

Gahz=big boss. There are two ways to him, 1) you can clear out the rest of the instance and come through a alley, or 2) go through a smaller, less-time consuming route, but it still leads to rest of instance. A tablet may drop off the trolls or Hydromancer Vel, and it will say how to summon him. Mallet is in Hints in a troll city, VERY hard to get solo....trust me, you need a good group to help you get it. If you dont clear out everything in the pool area where he spawns, back all your healers, spellcasters, etc besides tank in the area from which you came from (in my case, the alley). Let the tank draw him back, so you dont aggro the other mobs, if you didnt clear. if you DID clear, spread out and go wherever, you wont draw other mobs cept the pat in the alley from the chief.
There is a quest for a electrical scale of his, from 1k needles at the raceay off a gnome. You get a carrot on a stick, which is why he has bad drop rates- you WILL use this item on your mounted char for most of the game, as it gives a 3% (small? it still helps, trust me) increase in mounted speed.
I did it once with a 70 druid, and we wiped him in about 30 secs, easy, and she wasnt even feral, just a healer.
Hope this helps for those of you who want to know how to take him on and have questions about him.

We are 2 mages from the realm Duskwood. Im a lvl 52(frost) mage and my brother is a 54(fire) mage. After we Rang his little bell. he came out. i decided to just let 2 elementals get after him while we just comfortably sit back. My elementals brought over a quarter down. So he headed toward us when the time ran out on them. We reflected almost all his icicles which was funny. With a quarter of his life left he threw us way into the air. We were prepared for that this time. Slow fall comes in handy. We were gently floating down and he couldnt touch us. But we kept casting spells. He was dead before we touched the ground.. which was like a 10 second fall haha. Took a nice pic of my bro waving beside his corpse hopefully it will show when i submit it.

The thread has a good guide on how to get it.
Use it on the big gong by the water and Gahz'rilla comes walking out. Hes not attackable until hes out though, so I suggest you clear a large portion of the room first.
Strictly speaking, he is one easy boss! He died the fastest of any of the bosses we had faced so far (except maybe the excutioner). 2 warriors a healing druid and a hunter took him down in about 30-40 seconds (most of us about 50 i guess).
The only thign worth noting about him is his ability to throw you skyhigh...I only noticed it when our Tauren warrior caming crashing down next to me, lol.

just as a note to those of you who dont want to have to do the mallet gathering, especially multiple times for multiple toons, there is a way to have your one character summon him and then invite your other back to the party. have the toon with the mallet summon him and then log. he will not attack untill attacked. then your other toon gets logged back in and summoned or escorted to the fight so that they can help and get the loot too. personally we did this with a warlock who summoned the toon that needed the quest to the fight as soon as they got into the instance.

To clear up any doubts.

1. Head to the Altar of Zul
2. Kill trolls and watch for the to drop
(I got mine off the level 50 keepers atop the altar)
3. Take the mallet to the top of Jintha'alor (you may want to bring a 70 to help you up there)
4. Purify the mallet into
5. Head back to Zul'Farrak and bang the gong to summon Gazrilla.
6. Kill and enjoy your 3% mount speed increase.

not worth the time it takes to complete the quest for the mallet.. the chestpiece isnt really good for any class considering spirit is pretty much a joke of a stat anyways. the dagger? lol it speaks for itself.

We went after him last night for the carrot on a stick quest (and for the sweet mail he drops)

It was pretty smooth. We had 2 warriors that were alternating holding aggro and doing DPS. A hunter with broken tooth going to town on DPS and me dropping totems and healing with a priest. I was melee only b/c my shocks love pulling aggro.

We killed him pretty quick and our warriors never fell below 70% health with 2 healers. He dropped the mail which I rolled on and won. And we all got the loot for carrot on a stick.

I was able to get the mallet with 2 others earlier and blessing it was pretty easy with a hunter's pet distracting the priestess.

And it says 3% but when you combine all 3 riding speed bonuses, you get more than 3%. I had +9% with mithris spurs and riding enchant on gloves. After adding carrot on a stick I have +15% boost. So I'm at 175% speed when mounted and with automountequip I can switch between my mount gear and enchanted gear without having to think about it.

It only took about an hour and a half to go through the instance and we killed more than just Gahz'rilla so it should only take a group about 30-40 minutes to get to him and take him out. He's relatively close to the entrance.

Fought this guy today. Fun boss to fight.

TIP: If you're a feral druid, fight this guy in cat form provided you have learned "Feline Grace." Reduced the damage from falling significantly. If I can recall, I only lost 100-200hp from falling, while other's have said they lost a ton more.

Optional: Go to Zul Farrak and kill Trolls until a Tablet drops on how to make the Mallet of Zul Farrak. But since I'm going to tell you...you won't need this, so skip ahead.

Go to Hinterlands, and go to the middle/south of the map and you'll find Altar of Zul. It's a pyramid object and you will fight trolls 47+. Once you get to the top, you'll fight lvl 52 elite and his 2 guards. Loot the named, and you should get the Mallet.

Take the Mallet East, towards Jintha'alor, the troll city. Basically follow the path inside and whenever you have the chance, go up the stairs, so basically, keep going up and up. Once you reach an area that looks somewhat like an amphitheatre, you'll see a Named, called Vile Priestess Hexx. Now, my strategy is to get a Hunter to tank her while you run to the Stone Altar in front of them and Use the mallet. While Hexx is preoccupied, you'll have the mallet turned into the Mallet of Zul Farrak. Once completed, u can choose to kill Hexx, or die and Spirit Rez, or whatever u wish to do.

Once you have the Mallet of Zul Farrak, head back to Zul Farrak in Tanaris, and go hit in on the Gong. It'll summon Gahz'rilla the hydra-lookin beast. And have some fun, hope this helps.

Blizzard needs to update the loot table for this so called last boss.

1. He is the final boss of the instance.
2. Getting the mallet is a pain.

1 blue and 1 green in the loot table? That's something I'd expect from a first boss.
Not to mention that the blue drop (mail chest) is only a viable choice for Resto/Elemental Shamans, or maybe a Paladin.

More loot please.

So it is my 1st ZF. We get to the little pool, clear everything around and I, curious as I am, want to check what's in the pool. So I jump in it and notice it's deep, while someone must have sounded his mallet and he spawned right before my eyes. I panic, try to get out of the pool but can't find the stairs, the guy aggroes me and the tank has to get it off me. He casts Frostbolts and does a sort of Uppercut that sends you stratospheric, when I fell I got 550 dmg. Ouch. But I survived, the breastplate dropped, everyboty greeded and me too. Won it, merchanded it, got more than 1g. Exciting.

This guy bounces you way up in the air, and it hurts when you land. Went from full to 1/10 HP and had to bandage.

However, nobody died. I have to think that the bounce isn't a fixed amount of HP, as it doesn't actually kill you.

He seemed pretty slow. The best strategy might be to just hang back and used ranged combat.

What have other people's experiences been?

My lvl59 druid solo'd him for the carrot quest.

Went and solo'd the mallet at Hinterlands. Then moonglade hearth, and flew down to gadgetzan.

You can summon him without aggroing anything, then go to the hill back left, kill the basilik and a few trolls pat. Pulling the boss doesnt aggro any trolls.

moonfire from range, then just walk up the hill (he has a range spell, so gotta out range him so he moves), bear form and FF again to keep aggro.

He has a stun (frost) and a slam knockup. Being high level and with marks, have a chance to resist, but bring a pvp trinket too. Always save 10 rage to charge back when he knocks you up.

He has 23000 HP, but doesnt hit hard, can resist his frost spells. either bear form heal or popout regrowth/rejuv.

loot the quest item and get your carrot.

Solo'd as a 60 warlock to get the carrot for an alt. Fight was trivial with a voidwalker pet, as his knockback spell is an aggro drop and he does very little damage. I pulled aggro from the pet once and he was dead before I could pull it again.
