Im sorry but you are here very wrong..
First; Illidan Stormrage was never a druid. His brother was trained in the druidism ways and yes Malfurion Stormrage is know as a druid.. Illidan was addicted to the arcane magic, just like the Blood Elf he eagered to become..

Druidism was about following the natures ways, the Arcane magic was to controll the magic to your will.
It was the High born and Azshara that controlled the Arcane Magic from their magic Well of Eternity; given from the Pantheon..

Illidan got addicted to the arcane magic and when Azshara started to allie with Sargaras; Enemy of all life, Malfurion and Tyrande wanted to destroy it with the help of every demigod they know.. Illidan, that was addiced could not left them destroy the Well of Eternity, so he warned Azshara, which nearly cost Tyrande her life.

For that he was called Betrayer and was locked away for 10.000 years to Tyrande released him and set him loose in the world again.. There he gets the Skull of Guldan.. Story dont tell if it was Guldans skull or an artifact made by him, but it contains a lot of his memories.. it also cost him his soul and he gets "neither demon nor nightelf, but something more."
Last he did not betray the Dreanei, but when he meets them, they are almost crushed by the fell orcs, and they make an alliance where Illidan helps them to get revenge on the fell orcs and Illidan gets the throne of Outland..

Defeat to Arthas made him mad and paranoid..

Illidan (aka The Betrayer), twin brother of Malfurion, practiced the Highborne magic. In his youth, he attempted to master the druidic forces, as his brother had, but the sorcery called to him in a way that the magic of the land did not. Unlike this brother, Illidan was born with golden eyes, at the time a sign of a great destiny - however, this actually indicated inherent druidic potential . When Malfurion and Tyrande had found their destiny, Illidan was still searching for his. Though not a Highborne himself, he became the personal caster of the military leader Ravencrest.

When Archimonde's invasion of Azeroth had begun and Azshara's treachery became known, Malfurion convinced Illidan to leave his queen. Illidan followed his brother. But as Cenarius and the Dragons entered the battle, Malfurion came to understand that their adversaries were too powerful to fall in combat. To end the invasion, he plotted the destruction of the Well of Eternity.

The idea appalled Illidan. The Well was the source of his magic - and likely of the elves' immortality - and its loss was a price far too dear for him to pay. In addition, the Night Elf found that he increasingly admired the powers of the Burning Legion, seeing a magical purity that underlay their chaotic behavior. Where the Night Elves struggled to maintain their ground, the Burning Legion seemed to grow ever stronger. . The Satyr Xavius seized upon his doubts, exploiting his confusion to plant seeds of distrust into Illidan's mind.

Illidan had strong feelings for Tyrande Whisperwind, a novice priestess in the Sisters of Elune. Illidan so desired to impress Tyrande that he often acted without thinking, particularly in magic; he never realized that these displays weren't quite what the priestess was looking for in a mate. But while Illidan struggled to win her heart, none of them realized that the battle was over soon after it had begun; Tyrande had chosen Malfurion almost from the beginning. Xavius magically planted the suggestion in Illidan's mind that if Malfurion were to die, Illidan would no longer have a rival for Tyrande's love. Finally the sight of Tyrande in the arms of his brother Malfurion shattered his final link with the defenders

Illidan, with a new plan spurred into his mind, journeyed to Zin-Azshari. There he feigned allegiance to Azshara and Mannoroth. Illidan's plan was to obtain the Demon Soul, an artifact of great power created by Deathwing, which had the ability to close the portal which was allowing the demons to enter Kalimdor. However to put this plan in action, Illidan had to gain more power.

Illidan was eventually brought before Sargeras himself, who quickly doscovered the nigh elf's plan to obtain the Demon Soul for the Legion. Sargeras was pleased with this plan, and gave Illidan a "gift" in return for his allegiance. Illidan's eyes were gouged out, and orbs of mystic fire set in their place that allowed Illidan to see all forms of magic, and arcane tatoos covered his body. Azshara was fascinated by the "new" Illidan (who was wary of her advances), but remained cautious, sending Captain Varo'then to accompany Illidan, in his search for the Demon Soul.

After the Great Sundering, Illidan scaled the peaks of Mount Hyjal, where he found a small, tranquil lake. There he poured the contents of three of the vials into the waters. The chaotic energies quickly manifested, tainting the lake and twisting it into a new Well of Eternity. Illidan's joy was short-lived however, when his brother, Tyrande, and the rest of the kaldorei leadership discovered him- and all were horrified at what he'd done.

Unable to accept that his brother had committed such treachery, Malfurion tried again to explain to Illidan the folly of his ways. The magic, he insisted, was chaotic by nature, and it could only bring about destruction so long a

The lack of remorse shook Malfurion to his core and he raged at his brother, understanding now that Illidan was lost forever to the magic's sway. He ordered him imprisoned deep below Hyjal in a jail kept far from sight and mind. To Tyrande he confessed his greatest fear: if Illidan were ever freed from his prison, his reckless use of the magic would lure the demons back to Azeroth - Illidan was probably the single most powerful user of the arcane left.

Illidan languished for 10,000 years in a lightless prison. Califax, a Keeper of the Grove, and a contingent of night elves kept constant guard over the Betrayer. Release came at the unexpected hands of Tyrande, who slaughtered the night elf guards in the hopes of using Illidan against the Legion, which had returned to Azeroth at the hands of the Scourge. His love for Tyrande undampened through the millennia of confinement, Illidan agreed to help. He swore to throw back the Legion and to depart from the night elves forever.

Malfurion opposed Tyrande's decision, thinking the murder of the guards vile and the release of Illidan a catastrophic mistake. Frustrated that his brother remained unchanged and eager to prove to him that the demons had no hold over him, Illidan left Malfurion behind, leading a force of night elves into Felwood to hunt down the Legion. While in Felwood, he encountered Arthas, Champion of the Lich King, and they engaged in combat. The fighters were equally matched, and the combatants reached an impasse. Illidan stopped the duel and demanded to know why Arthas had tracked him. Arthas responded openly, telling Illidan about the Skull of Gul'dan, the demonic artifact that had corrupted Felwood. He explained that if the artifact were destroyed, the corruption of the forests would halt. To ensure that Illidan would take the bait, Arthas spared no detail of the Skull's power, adding that his master knew of Illidan's thirst for power.

A great Demon Gate defended the Skull as Illidan and his forces had to fight mightily to gain access to the artifact. Driven by necessity and influenced by the belief that with the increased power, he could at last redeem himself in the eyes of Malfurion, he shattered the demonic seal and consumed the Skull.

Strength he found but peril greater than power came to him at once.

The battle for control of the Skull came with a heavy price and the artifact's powers changed him. Transformed into a demon, Illidan wrapped himself in shadow and utterly decimated Tichondrius and his forces. But with victory came devastation. Tyrande and Malfurion sensed the demonic power lurking within Illidan and turned away with disgust and despair. Malfurion chastised his brother, convinced that Illidan had traded his soul for more power. Enraged, Malfurion banished his brother from the forests.

you forgot to mention some details, like he became Kur'talos Ravencrest`s (night elf emperor) personal sorcerer and were therefore a higher rank than his brother Malfurion.
And you also forgot to mention that he is in love with Tyrande Whisperwind and that Sargeras (The ruler of the demons) made him blind, and gave him 2 magical orbs as eyes instead, when Illidan swore allegiance to him.

Actually your wrong. Illidan -was- trained as a druid by Cenarius along side of Furion. He eventually gave it up seeing his brother growing faster in it than him and went back to practicing arcane magic (Later its known that golden eyes indicate strong innate druidic magic in a Night Elf, and Illidan had golden eyes)

Also during the first War with the Burning Legion he was captured and struck a deal with Sargaras, Sargaras gave him magical powers and sight (The tattoos on his body and ripped out his eyes and replaced them with magic orbs basically) in return helping Sargaras come to this world. So basically he helped Sargaras come partly in the world knowing his brother will destroy the Well of Eternity stopping him. So he did betray both races sorta.

Oh he also killed a demon called Azzinoth during that war which explains all the items.

When Illidan is 30% of HP, Warden steps in and helps you kill Illidan,
Illidan was started as a Demon Hunter in Warcraft 3,
Arthas defeated Illidan but he was still alive.

...Illidan was even the only one with the balls to duel Arthas. Twice. He may have got pwned but atleast he tried while others concentrated on minor harms...

Yes, it is a panda. According to Wowwiki, the panda is Samwise Didier's trademark. Also, when Illidan consumes the Skull of Gul'dan in WC3, he grows horns and wings and the panda on his blades changes from a happy panda to an angry panda.

We're playing a fantasy game, so there's always the possibility of any character coming back from the dead through means of magic, or some other deux ex machina, but I highly doubt that Illidan will be brought back.

Illidan's story arc was basically done when Arthas nearly killed him at the end of The Frozen Throne. Ever since then I think Illidan has devolved into a broken spirit, he failed his masters, and from what we know about patch 2.4, it seems that Kil'Jaeden had no real interest in trying to use Illidan again, as he seems to be focusing on the Blood Elves still loyal to Kael'thas to help him return to Azeroth.

Illidan played his part in the grand scheme of things during Warcraft III, and in truth I think that's where his real story ended. He gave up on every chance for redemption that was thrown his way, and will go down in the lore as selfish, insane, and arrogant, but powerful nontheless.

Well...a lot of things have been changed in the game.Illidan died at the Frozen Throne by Arthas and I think that place where Illidan is isn't Black Temple it is Black Citildel(sry about my spelling).Maive Shadowsong has died also in Warcraft III Frozen Throne...It is in the 2nd camapining with Blood Elves!

According to Blizzard, they made the last cinematic in TFT a realtime 3d animation rather than a prerendered cinematic because they were pressed for time. They would have made it clearer that Arthas did NOT kill Illidan had they not had this constraint.

Maiev Shadowsong's survival may well have been a retcon though, besides the fact that there was an altar of elders rezzing her every so often.

As for the Black Citadel being renamed the Black Temple and getting moved from HFP to SMV...there's no explanation for that one, really.

Illidan Stormrage is the final boss in Black Temple. When you start the fight remember this:

4 Tanks must be used for his encounter: a Warrior in his normal gear, 2 offtanks in optimized fire protection gear and a warlock tank with shadow protection gear. 9 Healers are recommended, but the encounter can be completed with only 8. Frost specialized Mages are highly recommended both for their damage against fire-immune targets and the ultility of their defensive abilities. An over-abundance of melee DPS classes is not recommended, otherwise any DPS class setup is possible.

Illidan got 5 stages:

1 Stage
HP: 6070400 Damage: 19914-28157
Abilities:
Shear: Deals melee damage and reduces the target's maximum health by 60% for 7 sec.
Flame Chrash: Deals 925 to 1075 Fire damage in an area in front of Illidan, as well as creating an area of fire in the same location. This area deals 5000 Fire damage to anyone who steps into it.
Draw Soul: Deals 4500 to 5500 Shadow damage to everyone in front of Illidan, regardless of range. Illidan will gain 100,000 health for every target that is affected by this.
Parasitic Shadowfiend: Deals 3000 Shadow damage every 2 sec. for 10 sec. This also summons a Parasitic Shadowfiend at the end of the duration of the damage over time spell.

When his health reaches 90%, Illidan calls fir the help of his minions which will be dealt with by Akama. The first stage continues until Illidan reaches the 65% mark, at which point he will fly in the air, starting stage 2.

Stage 2
HP: 6070400 Damage: 19914-28157
Abilities:
Fireball: Deals 2550 to 3450 Fire damage in a 10 yard radius.
Dark Barrage: Targets a random person in the raid and deals 3000 shadow damage per second for 10 sec.
Eye Blast: Deals a stream of damage across Illidan's chamber, incinerating targets with 19750 to 20250 Shadow damage in 6 yard radius around the blast. On top of this instant damage dealt, the eye blast also leaves behind a trail of fire that will damage players if they touch it.

In Stage 2 Illidan will fly in the air and cannot be attacked but he will throw down his 2 Blades of Azzinoth on opposite sides of the circle that marks the center of The Black Temple's summit. Each blade will spawn a Flame of Azzinoth, a powerful fire elemental with over 1 million hit points. The second stage ends when both Flame of Azzinoth are dead. Move away from the inner circle and prepare for stage 3.

Stage 3:
HP: 6070400 Damage: 19914-28157
Abilities:
Agonizing Flames: This is an area effect fire spell that deals damage over time to anyone affected. Deals a total of 36000 Fire damage over 60 sec. It hits a random player outside of 15 yards, unless it cannot find anyone, then it just hits anyone it can find. The damage it deals increases over time, similar to Curse of Agony.
Flame Burst: Throws fireballs to everyone in the raid outside of 15 yards. Deals 3238 to 3762 Fire damage to the target and all targets in a 5 yard radius.
Summon Shadow Demons: Summons 4 Shadow Demons to aid the caster. These demons cast Paralyze on a random target and move towards them slowly, ignoring everyone else. If they get to their target, they instantly kill them and choose a new target.
Uncaged Wrath: Increases Illidan's damage by 500%and movement speed by 200%
Demonic Transformation: Turns Illidan into a massive demon with different abilities.
Shadow Blast: Deals area damage around the target and all friends of the target. This one will be fired off constantly during this phase, it has zero coldown.

Stage 4
75 sec. after the death of the second Shard of Azzinoth which ended the second stage Illidan turns into his Demon Form and begin Stage 4.
At Stage 4 Illidan will wipe his threat meter.

Stage 5
As Illidan reaches 30% health, Maiev Shadowsong enters the battle. She periodically blinks to a player in the raid and places down a trap that can be use against Illidan. In this stage, Illidan enters an enraged state which significantly increases his damage. The tank needs to drag Illidan towards the trap, click to activate it, and position Illidan on top of it. While trapped, Illidan takes additional damage from every player attacking him. Keep attacking him until hes hit points reaches zero. Congratulations You finally defeated Illidan, Stormrage and maybe with a little bit luck Illidans legendary Warglaive of Azzinoth will be yours :-)

There is no trash to Illidan from Illidari Council, so warlocks bring shards, if you are low, the Parasitic Shadowfiends that spawns in some of the phases can be Souldrained for a shard (:.

Also, Illidan, like Azshara, was born with golden eyes which were uncommon before the destruction of the first Well of Eternity which was also called The Great Sundering, Night Elfs thought that golden eyes were a sign of future greatness. However this was found to not be true because both had bad outcomes. Later on these eyes were found out to be a sign of druidic potential. Like you said, Illidan was not a druidic person, yet addicted to arcane magic. In correction he was not called the Betrayer because of his defection to Sargeras because he came back to help. He was called the Betrayer when he created the second Well of Eternity. Before the explosion of the first Well, he filled vials with its waters. Upon the destruction of the first well, the Night Elfs found another lake in Hyjal. When they found this lake, they found that Illidan had poured the vials he had take from the first Well into this new lake. He thought that his people would praise him as a hero, however, his brother Malfurion was outraged. He was the decider of his fate because of how he helped rid Azeroth of Sargeras and because he was Illidan's borther. He felt that it would be cruel to sentence him to death but sentenced him to jail for the rest of his immortal life. (lol how does that work). In order to mask the second Well's existance from the Legion, they created what used to be the first world tree which also restored there lost immortality when the first Well was destroyed. 10,000 years later, the Burning Legion. This time the Legion was comanded by the Eradar Warlock Archimonde. On the way to the Barrow Dens to awaken the druids to aid them in the fight against the Legion, Tyrande Whisperwind noticed a jail which Illidan was kept in. She believed that Illidan was able to help them in the fight agains tthe Legion. Malfurion begged Tyrande not to set Illidan free but she defied him. Later, Illidan was confrounted by Arthas who gave Illidan the task of killing the Dread Lord Ticondrious. He then consumed the Skull of Gul'dan and killed Ticondrious. Consuming the Skull of Gul'dan, he awas transformed into a demon which gave him wings and horns and many other features. Malfurion found out that he has damned himself and exiled Illidan who lwas then hunted by Maiev Shadowsong. Maiev was the warden incharge of Illidan when he was in prison, when he escaped she vowed to hunt him down and kill him. After being exiled, Kil'jaeden gave him a task in echange for greater power. Kil'jaeden gave him the task of destroying the Lich King. He then went to Sageras' "tomb" to recover an artifact known as "The Eye of Sargeras". Illidan used the Eye to attempt to break apart Ice Crown which is where the Lich King is held. Malfurian and Maiev stoped him before he could destroy it. He then atempted to go to Ice Crown himself with his army of naga (the Highborn elfs that wer traped underwater for 10,000 years and turned into semi-amphybian creaturs) and the help of Kael'thas who pleged his loyalty to Illidan in search of magic for him and his Blood Elfs. He fought Arthas at Ice Cown but was mortally wounded but lived. Inorder to atempt to hide from Kil'jaeden's wrath, he fled to outland where he defeated the current lord of outland at the time, Magtheridon and became the new Lord of Outland. He is now the final boss in the 25-man raid instance of Black Temple. Edit: I added alot of stuff to make it more interesting.

A mage can successfully tank in lieu of a Warlock tank. Additional healing may be required. In our case, we added a Tree who kept HoTs on me as well as the raid.

Benefits of a fire mage vs. traditional lock tanks include:

Reduced risk of Agonizing Flames due to Ice Block
Safe management of Parasites at the tank spot
Fire Ward to mitigate some Flame Burst damage
Increased range (41 yds) for safe, continuous threat generation while tanking
Increased mobility from Blink for faster repositioning
Frostbolts (-40% movement) regardless of spec to help slow nearby Shadow Demons as needed

Of course, the added healing from Fel Armor and generally higher health likely trumps all of the above if you're lucky enough to have a Warlock capable of tanking him. Indirect benefits of having a fire mage tank instead of lock include:

Allowing every lock to spec Nether Protection which is beneficial in many fights (M'uru, Twins, Brutallus, Kalecgos, Illidan, Council, Shahraz, Gorefiend, Supremus, Archimonde, Azgalor, Kaz'rogal) until reaching Alythess, at which point a lock tank is highly preferred and will have to spec out of NP
Allowing the lock who would have had to tank to dps instead, pumping out far greater dps (especially during phase 2, the most critical phase) than the fire mage possibly could
More distant positioning of Illidan by the melee tank to increase the distance Shadow Demons will have to travel

Either to finish his task and defeat him for kiljaeden or because he wants vengeance against him.

Illidan went insane when Arthas beat him, and now he thinks he beat Arthas but spared his life to flee to outland, while in reality, Arthas spared his life and Kael and Vashj whisked him away to outland.

Heres some info on illidan.

Illidan gained his powers from sargeras, who burned his eyes out and replaced them with magical orbs. Illidan covered his eyes with a blindfold after that, he gained rune tatoos on his body and enhanced magical abilitys. He used the blades of azzinoth which he had looted off the demon Azzinoth.

Illidan was imprisoned for betraying the night elves by making anthor well of eternity, using water from the original well, after the original one, which caused most of the suffering that had happened, had been destroyed. He was freed by tyrande when the burning leigon returned.

Illidan consumed the powers of the Skull of Gul'dan transforming him, after becoming a demon to his brothers eyes and the eyes of his people he left into the forests of Felwood. Apparently after the fall of archimonde he met Kil'jaeden and made a pact with him, sealing his transformation as a demon.

After words he tried to use the eye of sargeras to destroy icecrown and the lich king to be stoped by his brother, he sensed the land in northrend getting destroyed, who did not know that he was using it for a noble cause (even if it was for his new demon master).

He left to outland shortly after saving tyrande, made the pact with the blood elves and took over outland. Him and his new leigon attacked northrend only to fail, defeated by arthas, and flee to outland in fear of kil'jaedens wrath. Btw this was also just before arthas became the lich king, after illidan was defeated arthas became the lich king

Relationship between Illidan and Malfurion
The relationship between the Stormrage brothers is noticeably different in Warcraft III/The Frozen Throne and in the War of the Ancients Trilogy.

By way of comparison, in the novels written by Knaak, Malfurion is more tolerant and forgiving of his brother, who is portrayed as often selfish, reckless, out of control and not completely sane. Rather than becoming part of the "lynch mob" who want Illidan summarily executed, Malfurion speaks on his behalf, endorsing his knowledge of the Burning Legion as vital tactical information... giving an undeniable reason to bury Illidan rather than kill him.

When we first were introduced to Malfurion and Illidan in Warcraft III, Malfurion objected fiercely to the idea of freeing Illidan, in the belief that his crimes were unforgivable and that he should stay locked up. When they were reunited Illidan was bitter about how he had been punished and Malfurion was disgusted to be in the same room as Illidan, still nursing a grudge over Illidan's betrayal. Illidan, who seemed to be the more forgiving one at the time, was eager to prove to his brother that the demons had no hold over him. Later, after Illidan used the powers of the Skull of Gul'dan for himself and took on a demonic appearance, Malfurion demanded to know where his brother was, implying he still had some affection for him. After Illidan revealed that he was the demon, Malfurion, rather than killing him simply banished him. Obviously, Malfurion knew Maiev Shadowsong would want Illidan imprisoned but still chose not to act. Rather than object, Illidan simply walked away.

Illidan was next seen in Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. After the two worked together to save Tyrande, Illidan seemed to have forgiven Malfurion for disrupting his attempt to destroy the Frozen Throne, even though it would leave him at Kil'jaeden's mercy. Malfurion's last words to Illidan included an ominous threat about what would happen to him if he ever did anything against the Kaldorei again. This too, Illidan accepted without objection. Illidan admitted that he had known only "ages of hate" for his brother, but for his part he wished it to end. This is perhaps the closest thing to a peace that the brothers have achieved. Illidan then departed telling Malfurion he doubted they would ever see each other again.

In World of Warcraft, Malfurion's words indicate that he does not wish to fight his brother, and he says that if he is forced to, things will not be as they were at the Well at Zin-Azshari.

Make VERY SURE that your demon phase tank, if he's a warlock, does not spec Nether Protection!!! If he does, and Nether Protection procs, your raid is VERY likely to wipe. Illidan will stop targeting the warlock tank and shadow blast the next on threat, which is a HUGE problem.

My guild just wiped on Illidan attempts for a month until we figured out that it wasn't people pulling aggro on the demon phase that was wiping us. If your guild is dying in phase 4 constantly, this may be the problem. The solution, of course, is to get your warlock to spec out of Nether Protection.

They'll probably find a way to make it so Illidan doesn't actually die in the story line. (Blizz for ya.) Cause honestly, it SHOWED Varimathras kill his brother Balnazzar(Sp?) in Warcraft III, and anyone who's done live side of Stratholme can see he's clearly not dead(until you kill him.) And there is no real explanation for that.I mean think of it, Illidan finds a way to escape Arthas(After he fuses with the Lich King)..barely might I add and Arthas+Lich King= The highest of the scourge, Illidan was hired by Kil'Jaedan(One of the three Eredar offered power by Sargeras, a god who created the burning legion, let a human mage "kill him" possessed her, and then eventually moved on to possessing her son Medivh.)(Also, just more pointlessness, Velen the dude who's like the draenei leader in Exodar was one of the three offered power, but he turned down, the other was Archimonde and he accepted, but got wtf pwnt in the face by Illidan at Hyjal.) Anyway going on. Illidan failed in his attempt to kill Arthas and Kil'Jaedan was pissed, but somehow he still managed to live. These are like god like creatures in WoW. Kil'Jaedan works for the person responsible for the burning legion even existing, and Illidan works for Kil'Jaedan. So would it REALLY make sense for Blizzard to have Illidan die to some common no-named adventurers? I mean.. Arthas doesn't manage to kill him before he escapes.. but some random dudes %^&* up his crib and kill him? Doesn't seem too likely to me.

You guys are forgetting some basic simple facts:
1) Blizzard makes the rules, and consequently, they made this story. As an author, they are entitled to do whoatever they please.
2) You are forgetting of the fact that by putting down such a hero as Illidan, you, the lowly adventurer become a hero. There is lore attatched to your name.
3) Suggestion for a new expansion: add an effort to the PvE. Comparing by example, there are titles for PvP. Whichever form it may be, there are titles which are held in higher regard the higher up the ladder. And there are items and titles reserved for the top players. Why not create a "hero" type plot for the "adventurer." Truly more focused on a role-playing game, imagine having a 51 point talent in your tree which can only be spent upon achieving such an epic feat (which should measure more than just simple numbers; random completely on basis; more based on luck; that actually requires more skill than rinsing and repeating) . In essence, I think Blizzard should add a "hero" type system to the game. And it should be based on individual merit. Similar how any real life "hero" has emerged from the rest of the crowd (i.e. Jesus, Gandhi, Malcolm X, Kevin Bacon, etc.).

By the way. I don't even get why we have to kill Illidan. What did he ever do to us? I mean, he was released, he only took up the demonic power to fight back the other demons. But noooo, it seems Malfurion doesn't want to defeat the demons, so he exiles Illidan, who did nothing but give up his elvenhood for the sake of his friends. Then, he gets told to kill the Lich King. The Lich King is our enemy too. He raises a group of naga to kill the Lich King. The Warden, (I don't know how to spell her name so I'll just call her Warden) gets in his way. Illidan did nothing, it was the Warden's fault. Then Illadin goes and rescues Tyrande, the leader of the Night Elves. This further shows that Illadin isn't a bad guy. He then helps the Blood Elves when he could have left them to die. He takes down a demon Pit Lord, we are still enemies with the demons. He then gets yelled at by a demon, and tries again to kill the Lich King, who is still our enemy as well. He then gets WTF PWNed by Arthas and somehow escapes back to Outland. I'm not seeing a big list of reasons why we need to kill this guy... I mean, Kael, he has it coming, siding with the Burning Legion, but Illidan, he is at war with our 2 biggest enemies, the Burning Legion, and the Scourge.

Now that I've seen Archimonde been "slain", I see no reason why Arthas, too, couldn't be killed. Think about it:

In the early versions of Wow your top notch achivement was killing Ragnaros, the old god of fire.

Next great challenge was Nefarian, son of Deathwing, the black dragon aspect (comparable to demigod),

Followed by killing C'thun, an ancient Qiraji old god.

Just a moment before BC it was Kel'thuzads turn, and now we got ourselves a >10000 years old demon/night elf hybrid and his incredebly mighty companions, not to mention Archimonde, super-powerful eredar demon who was strong enough to destroy a major human city with 1 simple spell.

If we measure the bosses concidering the written lore, none of them should be killable by a small group of representatives of "normal" races. When I heard Mt. Hyjal would be included in CoT, I sincerely hoped it would've been made a delay action, letting the wisps finish Archimonde off. Appearantly, the result we see today was a huge disappoitment. In fact, I think Archimonde was added to the game just because it's known he CAN be killed.

So what's next? Considering history, Arthas, a.k.a the Lich King, seems like no challenge. We gotta remember Lich King was originally just an orc, Ner'zhul, who spirit was encased in ice by Kil'jaeden. After him we might get a taste of killing Kil'jaeden himself and then... CoT: killing Sargeras, a Titan, one of creators of the universe of Warcraft.
Sounds realistic, right?

The thing I will always respect about Blizzard is that this isn't childrens' lore. They hire talented writers, such that their plots don't revolve around black&white; dichotemies of good and evil factions. Illidan is a complex character, just like Malfurion (who is a prick aswell). Even Sargeras is a sympathetic character and he wants to destroy all being for #$%^s sake.

At the end of the day though, because of the nature of the game, they have to be either something we kill or something we don't kill.

1) They made Illidan uglier than he really is here in WOW, he looked way cooler in WC3.

2) If story holds true, then folks like Illidan, Vashj, Kael'Thas, Kel'Thuzad, Thrall, Tyrande, Cairne should all be even, since they were all "heroes" back in WC3. However, I've in raid to kill both Cairne and Thrall, and you know what? they are wayyyy too easy to kill comparing to the PVE bosses, stupid..very stupid...

3) So it looks like even my grandma knows Arthas is next on the list, probably a level 80 boss then? he if that ever happens killing him would feel like killing 2 Thralls( probably )

4) Then what? Kil'Jaden at 90 and Sargeras at 100? omg I use to think WOW is way cooler then the other games because they don't just let level caps go thru the roof, but now..sigh

5) Anyone remember FF series? great series until WOW came out, WOW kicked butt, but like all great dynasties, it will fall at some point.

From my PoV, Illidan is not the hardest encounter in the game.
Kael'thas Sunstrider was way trickier and had more work behind it from a raid point of view(Before the nerf of p1)
You had like 5-6 tries at him before the raid ended(seeing you raid for 6 hours)
Due to many easy wipes because of small mistakes and/or trash respawns, so i'd say, when you first start taking on Kael as a guild who just got there, you'll struggle more on him then if you had the same situation at Illidan.

Ok, my guild and I are FAR from thinking about BT raid as we just started to organize Gruul and are somewhat through Karazhan with our first Group, but I HAD to browse this page also in order to post my frustration about a couple of things (as this is probably the most browsed page on thottbot):

Why the Hell are all Bosses -especially Illidan-, that are actually of the same race or related to playable races so freakishly huge? This is one fact that to me, ruins the whole game.
(Looking forward to seeing Arthas tall as a 100-storied skyscraper... NOT!)

Of course they need to be WAY stronger and different looking than regular players, but why not just create special models and textures? You have accomplished this with Vash and Illidan, but WHY THE HELL AS BIG AS DINOSAURS? (Illidan should be the size of a tall night elf, maybe a foot taller than others and maybe two or three when in demon form) I also hate some of the Bosses in Karazhan... Curator simply a 20x size Arcane Guardian? I sometimes catch myself organizing strategies of interrupting charged fist in my head when I see him. Maiden being an EXACT copy from Uldaman? Moroes simply using an Undead player model (ok... at least he is not 50 feet tall... BRAVO!) The Prince just an -again freakishly huge- regular Eredar of which MANY world encounters look EXACTLY the same? Come on... you can do better than this! At least for bosses that play a somewhat important role of moving on in the game i.e. dropping Tier X...

I HATE the fact that Bosses in general simply use re-colored models of mobs and are just made 431980265 foot tall! This is simple lazyness of the model designers. Blizzard, you guys are surely not lacking of money to employ one or two more designers and assign them with creating unique models for bosses. I am sure we reached the point where not a single player will complain about having to waste a little more space on his hard drive for the extra textures or model codes.

Also -ok.. this does not concern Illidan- you could include more speech and not just written text into boss fights. haven't we moved beyond textadventures after the introduction of sound cards? This would help the game a lot! Also, this is just a few hours paid to the voice talent and a bit of HD space for the customer/player. Here is a Hint what to do if you are too avaricious to pay a voice talent: Start a contest among fans for "Who wants to voice Boss/Character soandso?", combine it with some event and make money through selling tickets for the it etc.... You will find enough fans who will come and fill your Bank Account and surely are happy with a few months free play reward or just the fact that their voice is used.

Is anyone else so dissatisfied with these things? I do want some special/atmospheric game expierience in such a kind of game, otherwise I might as well go back to killing Nazis playing Wolfenstein 3D in the early 90s.

Not at all! If you want to know information about a boss, go to WoW Wiki. If you want to hear everyone's opinion about the boss, the boss's neighbor and said neighbor's dog, and then cry to Blizzard about it before shooting each other with laser guns, then come to Thottbot. Pewpew!

The screenshots are nice, though. Good to see the Kil'Jaeden one from WC3.

A quick lore guide to the superpowers of WoW and why BC ^&*!ed everything up:

Ragnaros: Fire Lord, he was the general of the fire elemental army. Definitely below godhood.
Nefarian and Onyxia: Offspring of Neltharion (Deathwing), the black dragon aspect. Strong, but not Aspects.
C'thun: One of three Old Gods. Not in its complete form, since it lost to the titans in the battle of the old gods. Fallen god, very strong but nonetheless mortal.
Kel'thuzad: Lich lieutenant of Arthas. Nasty fellow. First hero from WC3 to be killable. Coming back as a level 80 boss in Naxrammas v2.0 in WotLK.

Then BC came out...
Prince Malchezaar: Huh? Who? He's a nasty demon who moved in on Medivh's patch. He wasn't killing anyone, but hey, we need loot right? No great loss.
Gruul: Another nobody. Going well, some good BEM lore to support him, and a nice raid to start 25's on. Mortal.
Lady Vashj: Illidan's Naga lieutenant. One of the three big bad guys from WC3. Wouldn't be bad if it stopped here, but...
Kael'thas Sunstrider: Illidan's Blood Elf Lieutenant. Ok, so both commanders down and both armies in disarray. Not looking good.
Archimonde: What? Why? Let the wisps do it! If the combined might of all mortal races could stall him half an hour, then why can 25 players bring him down? This is @#$%ing with lore in a bad way, and its a cop out to create encounters without unique lore.
Illidan Stormrage: OK. He's dead. The second most powerful mortal being and second biggest villian in WC lore. Gone, in the bag, all over.

From a post-WC3 perspective, that leaves... Arthas, and Kil'Jaeden, as the only enemies left. Since the Lich King broke free from Kil'Jaeden's command, and now has fused with Arthas, their combined power is likely exponentially stronger than that of Illidan. So, come level 80, I expect another Archimonde/Illidan dual raid setup for Kil'Jaeden and Arthas. But until then, Blizzard have very few places to go.

They've already said we're going to fight the Blue Dragon Aspect in The Nexus at 80... if we kill, rather than simply defeat, the manifestation of Arcane Magic on Azeroth, I'd just love to think about the consequences that should come from that.

While floundering for ideas for new content, let us remember how Blizzard decided to kill every decidedly mortal enemy in BC, and leave nothing except the demigods for WotLK. And if WoW keeps going beyond Arthas... and we start hunting Titans... I think I would have to stop following WC lore. Until BC, the lore was fragile and balanced. Now everyone bad is dead and everyone good is alive, and there is no balance. Northrend is the only threat to anything, and beyond that, we're outsourcing again.

Solo'd this guy with my Night Elf Mohawk. Was pretty hard due to the fact that my Fear Aura kept making him run away from me. In the end, he dropped the shield, but I was quite happy with my Wooden Buckler. Never had the need to change it, really.

I dont like killing heroes of Warcraft, not even the bad ones. A lot of game concept is made stupidly.

Killing Archimonde: Oh lol you cannot take that serious? What about another form of CoT? 3 parts, 1. players transform in human soldiers and helping defend base, after some time they will be transformed into 2. part as orcs and finaly to 3. part as night elves. If players done all this, an in-game video shall apear and wipss kill him. Now, players in their true form can loot him. Why not? How do you know that troops you send to death in W3 wasnt some players? :D

Uldaman is nice, but dont forget there is an ULDUM still here. WTF is in there? We want to uncower some of secrets of creating! Let us face the dangers of old times! Maybe creators did something terribly wrong and imprisoned it deep inside Uldum. Thats it! We want it!

Naxxramas: ye, nice, but it can (and will) be moved to Northrend to help his king. It wants a little changes anyway, not just raise lvls.

Illidan: not killed, but escaped OR maybe defeated and sworn to help undone what he done, now as leader of faction demonhunters in northrend(new hero class!), fighting against frozen throne and with new quest: shut down all demon gates in this world and in outland to prevent burning legion to enter this world once and for all.

Killing Kil Jieden is bad idea, same like killing Sargeras, titans, aspects...what do you want to kill next? Old gods? Beigns what dont even have mortal names (c thun is just an eye of one of them)? Beigns what corrupted noble titan Sargeras and Neltharion changed to Deathwing only by their influence in one stupid artifact? Dont play with us, this is the BIGGEST stupidity you can even think about Blizzard.

Normal Form:

* Melee strike - Illidan melees from 6k to 8k on plate
* Shear: Reduces the health of his current main aggro target by 60%. Shear has a 1.5 second cast time and so the main tank must be ready to use Shield Block (which mitigates the attack).
* Flame Crash: Illidan jumps up high and lands in a patch of blue flames directly underneath his current position. The flames deal 5k fire damage per second. 10 yard radius. They remain on the ground for 2 minutes. 1.3 sec cast.
* Draw Soul - Illidan will drain targets in front of him in a similar way to Cone of Cold, dealing 5k shadow damage and healing Illidan for 100,000 HP. Shadow based spell. Resistible.
* Parasitic Shadowfiend - Random raid members will be targeted with a Parasites debuff lasting 10 seconds and dealing 3k shadow damage every 2 seconds. Once this debuff has ticked off, 2 Parasites will spawn at the affected player's location and attempt to melee whoever is highest on global threat (generally a healer). If they are successful in this melee attack, the targeted raid member will receive the Parasitic Shadowfiend debuff. Parasites have around 6k HP.
* Agonizing Flames: Illidan will randomly target a player and cast this, dealing 4000 initial fire damage to the target and anyone within 5 yards, and giving them a debuff which causes fire 3k damage every 5 seconds for 1 minute. He will only use this ability in night elf form in phase 3.

Demon Form:

* Shadow Blast - Illidan will Shadow Blast the target highest on threat for between 8k and 11k shadow damage. This Shadow Blast has a splash effect - raid members within 20 yards of the affected target will receive the damage from the spell. Resistible.
* Flame Burst - Illidan throws fire upon the entire raid for around 3.5k damage every 10 seconds. Players within 5 yards of each other will receive splash damage from this ability. Resistible.
* Shadow Demons - During this phase Illidan will spawn 4 Shadow Demons at his feet that target random raid members and paralyze (stun) them. The demons will then slowly move towards the players in question; if they reach one of the players then he/she will die and the demon will target somebody else. The demons have around 22k HP.
* Aura of Dread - A 15 yard aura surrounds Illidan dealing 1000 shadow damage every second to raid members within 15 yards of him, and also increasing Shadow Damage taken by 30%. This effect stacks over time.

Flying in air:

* Fireball: casting time 2 sec, Deal fire damage 2550-3450 in 10 yards radius.
* Eye Blast: Illidan will sweep a fiery blue beam, emanating from his eyes, across the platform every 30 seconds. This deals around 19750-20250 fire damage on initial hit and spawns Demon Fire on the ground for 1 minute.
* Demon fire: This is the blue fire trail left on ground by Eye Blast. It deals 2000 fire damage per second if you stand in it, which you shouldn't.
* Dark Barrage: Illidan randomly chooses a player and places a dark eye beam on him, which deals 3000 shadow damage per second for 10 seconds.

Illidan is soulstoned when you fight him. After he "dies" and you loot him and then leave he clicks "Accept," giggles softly to himself, and hearthstones.
