Just got one as a pet on my alt. Nothing impressive about that, except for the fact that I'm a lvl 10 Orc hunter. This is the only low-level owl there is, and I haven't ever seen low level horde hunters with an owl on my server (Arthas). Walking all the way to Darkshore was a pain, once there, it took about half an hour because of Alli's having a field day. Follow instructions on http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/tameguide_owl4horde.shtml and it's a piece of cake. The author did it on a nonpvp server though, so keep Alli's in mind when doing this if you're on a PVP server, like me.

One of the best pets I have ever had.

When I would farm I would always use a Boar because charge would gain about 1.2k aggro once he hit the target.

Never thought to use an Owl but I thought what the heck I'll try it. I have to say the screech, dive; claw combo really holds the aggro well. as well or better than a boar because an owl does more DPS.

Dive sends the bird in nice n fast like charge. There is no 1 sec stun though so you need to let the bird get to the target then fire. Screech must cause aggro somehow because this crazy bird gains crazy aggro. Mine has about 1.2k at the first contact.

I hate the flapping as much as I hate the pop a gun makes and screech makes ALOT of noise and would prob drive your tank nuts so I would use this pet more for solo and PVP. Driving casters crazy sounds good to me =p

They only eat meat so fishing is out...seems dumb they should eat fish.

So if your looking for a good DPS pet that can hold good aggro you may want to try out and owl.

Once my Hunter, on Argent Dawn, got level 10 I went over to Oracle Glade to tame one. I named him Feathers. My Hunter's level 17 now and I still have Feathers, he's a great first pet!

i got him as a lvl 24 hunter, and took a few days of grinding to level him up to me, and when he lvled up to equal with me, i was lvl 27. but oh my god its amazing! it was very hard to get if you are horde, but it is well worth it.
here is how to get it on the horde.

DIRECTIONS

Go to darkshore.

go to the alliance town in darkshore, auberdine.

go IN THE WATER and swim over to the docks.

go to the LEFT branch of the dock.

drown yourself under where the boat would dock. yes, drown yourself.

take your spirit to the docks, where you would wait for the boat.

when the boat comes, get on it. wait for it to start pulling away, then when it does, rezz. you will be on the boat.

when you are near landing in rut'theran village, jump off. swim to the land, and STICK TO THE WALL!

use ASPECT OF THE MONKEY, not cheetah, and make your way to the portal in the very back of the town. if you die, you will be sent to the darkshore graveyard. you just have to get on the boat again and go back over. go to your body, and run like hell to the portal.

you will die in darnassus.

when you are at the graveyard, spirit rezz, and run south. then follow the map provided by thottbot and you will have your very own Strigid Hunter!

one of my friends had this pet from lvl 10 to about lvl 30 and had a blonde moment and abandoned him instead of being smart and putting him in the stable i was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mad at him cuz for some reason my nightsaber stalker always seemed to fight better with his bird they made and awesome team (which is weird for a cat and bird :D) but now he has humar the pridelord and im ok with that but i miss the bird

Please take note that in the above directions the Left Branch of the docks in Darkshore means the Northside dock. Not as if you were walking out the dock and took the left side. If you do take the South boat you will end up in the Wetlands and there are usually level 70 players waiting there for attacks from the horde. Good luck just got mine tonight after about 3 hours of running around, went to Westfall first to get Screech then went to get the owl.

Yes, it can learn Screech. But non of the grey owls at that level come with the ability.

after the last patch there is one more pain in the butt for Horde characters. Beefed up security. I know SOME "red" NPC do not attack on sight but I am pretty sure these new boat security will - if not on a normal server definitely on PVP. I was STILL able to ride the boat as a ghost.... I got on the back of the boat where the plank sticks up and off the back of the boat before I revived (as it started moving from Auberdine docks, a human actually helped me since NONE of the guards would attack me due to pathing (i was in water they were on docks), i was flagged and he nuked me)... i made it to Rut'thean village. I revived and I did not move or anything. I have no idea if they will kill you. and it seemed harder to get to the portal, I died like 3 times. but still cool and fun.

holy crap. you guys crazy being Horde and trying to go after the owls. LOL that must suck. gotta give you props though for trying. thats like Alliance trying to get a dragonhawk. takes forever but it can happen. keep tryin peeps

Tamed mine today with THE HORDE! Died only three times (once I drowned myself)! Instructions are as follows:

1. Get your Horde Toon to Darkshore (Auberdine)
2. Imagine yourself standing in the Inn facing the Pier (Take the 1st Right to go boat bound for Darnassus)
3. Jump in water swim to that pier point, wait for Boat to arrive position your self to drown under the Boat and where you will Rez and DROWN yourself)
4. Run to Pier and wait for Boat dont rez, until Boat arrives.
(I recommend Rez'n on the front of Boat furthest from Guards on Pier)
5. Ride to Night Elf Town Tendrassil (sorry for spelling)
6. Jump into water before hitting Docks, swim to the left of portal into Darnassus
7. Take widest route to portal into Darnassus (Guards willa ttack you upon closeness to that portal try to get as close as you can. If you die outside portal--Spirit goes back to Darnassus--Rinse and repeat (except ride boat as spirit all the way to your body) Jump through portal
8. Or course Guards killed level 10 Horde--I revived at cememtary, Hid until pvp turned off--Turned on Track Humanoids, made my way to where Stringed Hunters were (dodging Guards and Alliance alike)--Tamed and Got the Heck outta Dodge!
9. Fed Him, named him Churches...So Allices watch out for him in Battlegrounds!

wow chuck if u werent a noob u would realize it takes a lot longer to run through wpl and epl u would die a lot more i even tested it i ran thru wpl and epl with a lvl 10 hunter (no escort alliance) and used every single bit of stratagy i could find but still died bout 6 or 7 times for my horde hunter i only died once and thats cuse i had to drown myself in order to get to night elf area. and it was a nessacary lost too. so u should thottbot and research horde strategies more. presonally i like horde more then alliance from expirience. got a lvl 70 human lock and a lvl 70 human warrior for my alliance for horde i got a lvl 70 orc shaman and a lvl 59 tauren hunter so i know all this stuff from past exp. so jus remeber u shouldnt under estimate the horde. (not saying theoratically i like them the best tho)

Hey, just asking for some advice here. I'm a lvl 27 hunt and was basically just seeing if it was too late to go tame and start lvling one of these for BG's at lvl 29. Anyone know approx how long itd take for it to catch up to me close in lvl and how I should go about doing so? You know, obviously I don't want to exceed 29 of course. Should I just bag this idea? Any help appreciated thx.

Don't give up on the idea of getting one. You can still lvl the owl up.It wil probably only take a couple of days if you throw him at whatever you can.

I just got my owl a few days ago and loved it. As far as I can tell so far... I am the ONLY Horde player on my server at lvl 19 to have an owl thanks to this little trick. I was lvl 10 when I got him. I got some Guildy friends who wanted to sack the allied town anyway so it made a nice escort.

Thanks for the help and instructions. Even the trip up there and the little bit of dieing was fun.

Honestly, they are really awesome. Claw is usually an extremely helpful attack. its helpfully when you get aggro, Claw will usually get aggro on your pet.

To save u dying all the time just die once and enter darnasus through portal as ghost go to dolanar and revive there found this out by accident , had die a couple of times getting to portal in village when i ran as close as I could to portal when all of a sudden I was in Darnasus pretty easy. Onbly did this once will try again to make sure

AH! The Fun-ness of getting this pet! Man... If you want a change of pace from grinding/questing, try getting these as a pet :D So much fun to get. The dying, the exhiliration, and THE !alliancepeoplelookingatyoufunny when u die! shnyvien.

Right, so here's what i did once i reached Auberdine:
Run to the boat. When u die on the way to the boat, go near your corpse, then run towards the boat (again) and once the 'Revive' button disappears, retrace back untill it re-appears. Press 'Revive'.
Keep doing this till u reach the two guards guarding the Auberdine-to-Teldrassil Boat. Don't Revive yet, wait for the boat to come, get inside the boat (as in, the cabin) then revive.
Once you get to the Ruth'Ren Village, go for the portal. Use Die-Revive technique*
Once ur in Darnasus, U can jus res at the Angel in the island and have fun!

*Note: When u die in Ruth'Ren Village, ur ghost will be teleported back to Darkshore. You can jus ride the boat to Ruth Vill. and res there. But once you die inside Darnasus, U'll be able to res at the angel in the island :D

Easiest way I found to get on the boat was to swim to the end of dock and tag one of the swimming creatures and let it kill you,then run back and revive on the boat in the very back.

Umm yea... how do I get to Tedrassil? Im a Tauren Hunter in the barrens. I got all the way to Darkshore to find out its not even connected to Darnassus. >.< If anyone knows plz help me out. I WANT AN OWL!

Made my way to Teldrassil as a level 10 orc hunter last night. Took a little over 2 hours. The pet rocks and I have already gotten compliments on him.

I tamed one of thies at level 21, it took a wile for me to build him up but he is my fav pet. he came with Claw (Rank 2) and he kickes some major but, he is the best pet i have ever had (best & best looking :P). But he was a little hard to get
:( (And its alot harder now that there are guards on the boats). Me and him are now level 37, and i dont plan on ever geting a new pet. For thos Hunters out there that want to go after him, I wish you luck, and i hope you like him as much as I do! :)

Okay, here's another way:

Swim out to where you board the boat and drown. (1st death)
Jump off the boat and run as far as you can towards the portal
(2nd death)
Should be able to rez right next to the portal and jump through here. Now you're in Darnassus proper. Commit suicide somehow. It shouldn't be that hard.
(3rd death, spirit rez. Make sure you had full armor before going into this.)
If you did this right you'll be rezzing inside the island, right outside Dolanaar. Feel free to tame your bird now. While you're there you may want to give taming Duskstalker a try too:
Duskstalker pets, one trip=good deal!

A Strigid Hunter, lvl 9, Loyalty lvl 1, right after training:

str - 30

One suggestion - when you get to Auberdine to take the boat, enter the inn on the side where the flight deck is, between the flight master and one of the buildings. Turn on detect humanoid, and you will see a gap you can make it through. This will get you all the way through the inn and onto the dock before dying the first time.

Also, when you get to the island of Teldrassil, jump off the boat before it reaches the dock, and swim into Rut Theran village along the left side. You can reach the portal to Darnassus by going all the way to the back along the left side and then sprinting for the portal. I died just short of it (being lvl 15 and they being 55 or so), but after rez-ing and riding the boat again as a spirit, you can rez right next to portal and go in.

One last thing - when you get on the boat, stay away from the doorway on the deck of the boat. The guard is inside there. If you stay away from it, you'll be fine.

This will drive you crazy. Untill you die in Darnassus, you will be teleported to the Darkshore Graveyard. Took me forever but once i died in darnassus just rez at the spirit healer and your set to go.

Just tamed an owl on my level 10 tauren hunter. One thing I will add is that there are two boats out of Auberdine. You want the one on the north side. In fact, you could possibly avoid an extra death or two if you ran north of Auberdine and got into the water on the north side of town and swam down before you killed yourself but I did not test this personally. I managed to get from Thunder Bluff all the way to Auberdine without a single death, although I did have to sacrifice my pet a few times.

Rez on the boat when it comes, with anywhere up near the bow on the upper deck being perfectly safe. As the boat gets near the dock at the other end, jump off to the left and you can swim out and run along the lefthand side of the emcampment almost all the way to the portal before the portal guards (of which there are several) mess you up. Since the portal activates just my running into it, getting into the portal upon rez before the guards kill you is easy so long as you rez at the portal. However, you will get destroyed at the other end. Take the spirit rez at the GY (outside city limits) and you're in business, although be wary of additional guards on the north side of the GY. Rez as close to the tree just behind the spirit and you should be OK. At this point, just run east and circle to the north to get to the main east-west road and go find your level 9 owl.

So basically if you can get to Auberdine without a death, you can get your owl with just three deaths, at least in theory. In fact, as the comment below mine points out, you can actually take the Darnassus portal while a ghost so you can skip one of the deaths by just running straight to the spirit healer in Teldrassil, assuming you know how to find it (Dolanar). It is faster to just take the extra death in Darnassus, however.
