Lord Vyletongue is linked with two stealthed Lv 42-43 elite demons so be prepared for two adds when engaging Lord Vyletongue.

If I remember correctly, Vyletongue is the first boss on the Purple side of the instance. As you approach him, you go down a ramp into some water and up the other side toward a temple ruin. There are 2 Demons standing on the entrance to the small area where he stands. They are not linked to each other or Vyletongue. Take them out first separately. Then, just inside the room are 2 stealthed demons with Vyletongue just a bit farther back in the middle. These 3 are linked so hit one and all come at you. Crowd control is up to you (trap....banish...enslave). Vyletongue will "blink" occassionaly and range attack you around the room while the other 2 beat on you melee. He drops some great items and is definitely worth the effort of your team.

i know, it isn't soloing, but it's a way to efficiently farm him. a lvl 60 hunter might be able to kill him, i don't stand a chance.

i just did two runs with me (54 hunter), a lvl 55 druid and a lvl 50 rogue (i wanted the pants, rogue wanted the dagger, druid was being nice). each run took us about 10 minutes, and we got the pants twice. since the druid had to leave we'll have to get the dagger tomorrow :)

As a L60 retribution specced paladin I had no problems soloing him plus his two adds, although in the beginning it got a little scary. (It was my first trip to Maraudon.)

Getting to him was a cakewalk. Essentially if you do it right, at L60 you won't have to fight anyone between the door and this guy, just stick close to the wall - I could almost hear all these patrols in the dungeons saying hi to me as I zoomed pass them.

What I did was, I killed his two guards first as fast as I could with seal of command/slow 2-hander (Twig of the World Tree +7), but by the time those guards were dead I was not doing too well either, as the boss sure hit fairly hard. I shielded myself, pressed divine favor, and fired my last holy light - full HP with almost zero mana - and then switched to the cheesy seal of wisdom/blessing of wisdom/judgment of wisdom/seal of the crusader + the fastest two-handed weapon I had (the Needler + fiery). The fact that he teleported around just made it even better - it gives you time to heal. By the time I finished the lord my hp and mana were both almost full :)

But the point is that L60s should be able to "farm" him all day if they want - although I don't see the value of "farming" personally, whatever rocks your boat, I guess.

I'm a L.60 hunter, I have had hard times soloing him. I could only get one of his adds killed before him and his other add killed my pet quickly. and when my pet died, I die. Any hunter soloed this fella before? would really like to hear from you all. Thanks

I'm just now trying to solo this guy as lvl 60 rogue. He has 4 guards around him. The first 2 can be pulled each alone and killed easily, which I did. Then he has 2 guards just next to him, the three of them are linked.

I killed the two guards and vanished, thinking I could take on the boss alone after having gotten my health and timers back up. Nope, a second after I vanish, the 2 mobs that are linked to the boss respawns. Obviously Blizzard meant to make this harder for rogues.

I figured what the hell and just went for the boss with the 2 adds hitting on me. I got him down to ~70% before my life was running too low and I vanished out.

Don't bother trying this solo. Unless you're a soloing elite machine (in other words, a paladin).

50 hunter and 48 druid took this guy down and his 2 buddies.

druid tanked vyletongue while i froze one add and my pet tanked the other, killed first add. pet went to second who had been unfrozen and on the druid for a few seconds. killed second add and started on vyletongue. by this time the druid was almost out of mana and vyletongue was half dead. druid proceeded to run around like an idiot and healing himself whenever he had mana until i could finally finish him.

if the druid had innervate it wouldve been a cakewalk though.

Got him on my 3rd try with my 60 BM/MM spec hunter. 31/20 spec. Took 4 trys. Freeze trapped 1 of the adds, focused me and pet on other add. Then took his second guard, finally got my pet on him, use as little mana as possible early in fight, you will need it to give your pet heals as he tanks. My pet is a 1.5spd cat, used BW on first add, it was ready again against vyletongue. Just used serpent sting, no arcane as was saving mana for heals. Got the leggings, also solod Celebras, and the little Troll guy.

me (lev43 rogue) and a level 59 druidfriend whent in and whacked it.. got the dagger on the first run.. it took us a few attempts tho..

it was easiest for us to first pull and kill the adds, because he then stands and shoots his crappy bow and does alot less damage

he never switched either.. always keeping his focus on the druid.. was sweet..

We went in with a stealth party. 2 60 rogues and myself, 49 rogue. Poor demons never had a chance. Dropped satyr's lash on the first trip. It took longer to get to the instance than it did to find and drop the critters.

Soloed him tonight, after my normal run in Maraudon of Princess Theradras and The Little Gnome (don't remember is name) I decide to try him (since my heartstone was on CD).

Lord Vyletongue he's nothing he got no dps, the problem come with the two adds, one need to be banish and you kill the other one while your VW off-tank Vyletongue. Once one add is down, I Demonic Sacrifice my VW to gain +hp/4sec (like a non-stop renew) and dps the boss, while the last add is still banished. Then I finish the add.

Got the legs on my first kill 12dec 2005.

Me (53 druid) and a 50 Hunter took him out last night. I healed hunter and pet at first for a while then i got one of the adds on me and killed him and then we all could focus on Vyle. From there it went fast. I am a feral druid (30 feral 14 resto) but had my high intellect and stamina gear on. He didn't drop the pants the hunter wanted though :(

I almost solo'd him last night 60mage. Unfortunately I have to be ice specced for endgame raiding but if I were 31arc/20fire I'd pwn his ass. If you're a kiter like the mage class I suggest clearing the room where hes at, those little tree things around so you can kite him by using ledges n stuff to your advantage. Frost root his adds when they get near you, bandage whenever you gained a big distance or you went out of line of site. He hits cloth for 300 a pop. Here's the problem. He's a hunter not melee, uses a bow. Ill try to solo him again tomorrow, but with my ice spec I rely on shatter to crit, and as we all know bosses can't be frost rooted.

A pair of level 50 warlocks duo'd the purple side and killed Lord Vyletongue - although it was barely doable for us. Buffed to the gills, we had to use all our tools - enslavement, banish, extra minions, trinkets, potions, soul stones (ouchie)...our bars were nubbins when we were done.

i am a lev 44 troll hunter, i asked my 60 shami friend to run me through for the legs, when we got to him, all i did was kite the 2 demons, while he nuked the boss and we did it np

This is pre-buff patch. So I'm missing a few key things:

5 rage per crit (real important with 40% crit rate)
30% dodge (as opposed to current 14%)
360% armour bonus (as opposed to 450%)

So next patch will make it easier, but I did fairly well. I have: 1150 AP, 37% crit(40% with potion). 14.5k armour. And 6600 health in bear. Here's what I did.

1) Individually pull the stealth mobs at the door, kill them both
2) Cast regrowth on yourself, then go Bear
3) Ignore the guards. Focus fire on the boss.

Because of Leader of the Pack heals, I was left with 45% health when Lord Vyletonue died. That's without healing. And without any potions. Didn't have to hit Frenzied Regeneration either. By the time I took out the other 2, I was back up to 70% health.

Much MUCH easier fight than Noxxion. (noxxion is haxx unless you have Nr resist gear, or use greater nature resist pots)

nuked vyle, he teleported once, dead before 2nd trap wore off

feign death, pet tank both adds, kill em easy

i tried 45 druid feral combat talented and got spanked.. these guys are harder than normal.. i have taken lvl 47'and 48's and even 49's on no prob.. ive taken on 45 elites.. no problem.. i am just shocked lol..

Hi All,

I wanted to post something as this site has been v helpful for me.

Ok I'm a lvl 49 NElf hunter, BM spec. Put out 120dps base. I ran Maraudon for both this and the leggings from Lord Vyletongue.

Overall at lvl 49 this is all soloable by running, FDing and shadow melding. To get the leggings/anything else you will need to kill. 4 tree sentinels, a group of 2 satyrs and 3 imps, 2 stealthed satyrs and ofc Lord Vyletongue.

XP - I wanted to avoid picking up too much XP as I want to run BGs for a few weeks, so didn't want to ding. For Lord Vyletongue, in a fully rested state each tree and satyr gives 1000ish xp and the Lord 1200ish. With a windserpent you can however kill all except the lord only using your pet and thus pick up no XP. You will however for the groups have to pick them off one by one FDing and letting your pet die, so bring lots of food to make him/her happy again!

The run:
See the end of the post as this is long: Note this uses Shadowmeld a NElf racial ability. I tried this with a Dwarf hunter pal and we failed twice to make the run. I expect it's possible but Shadowmeld makes it easier. You can wait safely whilst stealthed for your FD to CD. OK I'll start by saying don’t expect this description to make much sense until you get in the instance and try it. Second with practice you can get to Meshlok in under 10 mins. However my first few runs took 45mins or more, learning where patrols are etc. At first give yourself time and watch out. If you pull one of the groups and FD is on CD you are dead! Don't try to run too far, get past some mobs, let yourself heal and move on. Lots of the mobs have poison etc and once you're loaded up you can die quick. At level 49 my aggro radius was small enough to sneak past several of the mob groups, at lower levels this may not be the case.

Number of Runs:
Took me approx 8 runs for the leggings. Died several times fighting the lord and his two bodyguards and leggings dropped after kill 5.

The fight
Lord Vyletongue - Tough fight which takes practice. First clear out all the space on the upper level, including two satyrs in the passage heading out of the cavern. Then get ready to trap one bodyguard, kite the other and have your pet kill the lord. The key to this is not to panic, keep your pet healed and then focus on trapping and kiting, don't bother trying to kill the adds. Once the lord is dead FD and loot his body. If you kill the bodyguards and have to leave the fight ie pet dies and you FD then they will be back when you pull the lord again. I found it easiest to leave my pet fighting the lord at one end of the area, trap one of the guards and kite the other to the far end, wing clip and run back to the lord, heal pet, retrap other guard, rinse and repeat. For some time you may end up kiting both guards whilst your trap is on CD. During these fights I normally got through 1 or 2 healing pots and each fight took 4-5 mins. Which in fight terms felt like forever!

The Route:

Once you get through the first few twists and turns beyond the great rock doors, you will come to a split in the cavern. One side glows orange, the other purple, and the middle doesn't glow at all. Head into the purple crystals, wind around a bit, and you should come to the entrance fairly quickly. There are some mobs on this path but non elite and easily killable, or just run past FDing and get into the instance where they can’t follow.

When you have passed through the portal, put on track demons and dismiss your pet, you will be in a circular room that is empty except for a group of demon patrols that bounce in and back out. Wait for them to enter the room, then follow them out at a distance to where they stop at a ledge. In this bigger room are many satyrs and imps, but you’ll bypass all of them by jumping off the ledge where the imps stop. Below, there is an elemental (tree) patrol, but chances are you will miss him. If not Feign Death and wait for him to amble away.

If you jumped correctly, you will be facing a tunnel under a group of satyrs and imps. Inside is another tree elemental at the foot of a short stairway. At lvl 49 I could wait until he was as far left as possible and then scoot by him along the right wall, sometimes I got this wrong and pulled aggro, so had to get past him and FD on the left. There is another tree patrol and a stealthed satyr that comes down this passage. I normally run past the first tree, up the stairs, FD on the left, drop into Shadowmeld and wait for FD to cooldown. Here awaits a walkway of sorts lined with groups of two satyrs and four-five imp minions. Watching for the stealthed satyr and tree patrols you can run right past everything if you’re careful. If you do pull aggro get to the wall at the end and FD. Do not run using Aspect of the Cheetah if you're hit and dazed it's a long walk, use aspect of Monkey for added dodge resistance!

Past the wall the path narrows and bends to the right, out of sight. Around the corner is a group of satyr/imp mobs. At level 49 I could not walk right past them by hugging the ledge. So run past/through them, Feign Death by the wall/roots on the right, pop up in to shadowmeld and wait for FD to CD. Wait for a second stealthed patrol and tree patrol to come by. You'll be looking at another group of satyrs/imps in a square patch of hallway. Use the run-and-feign technique again into the next room, staying to the right hand side. Remember that if your pet is out when you feign, it will transfer aggro to your pet and you will have to wait for it to die before you can pop back up. This is why you brought food but if you followed my instructions your pet should not be out. Pet management is a key hunter skill so learn it!

Anyway, now you should be in a circular room with a pool in the centre guarded by more satyrs and a few trees. Sneak along to right wall until you get to a hallway leading out to the right. There are two satyr and imps under an overhang, at lvl 49 I could sneak past without aggroing them. Two patrols walk through here so watch and time your run. When the coast is clear, keep to the right side and you can bypass the group completely. You’re now looking at two tree elementals and beyond them a wide open room flooded with a shallow pool. You may be able to sneak past the two elementals atop the stairs but if not run and jump off the ledge to the right and into the water and FD.

Ok at lvl 49 the tree elemental in the pool with you is outside of aggro radius when you are at the back of the pool. Skirt past this tree on the right and head up the stairs. At lvl 49 I can run up the very right edge of the stairs past the group of imps and satyrs. Run past the tree elemental halfway up the stairs keeping to the central balustrade on the stairs and if you pull any aggro FD at the top. Lord Vyletongue is now on you right. In with him are four stealthed satyrs so be careful. To kill him follow the instructions above or elsewhere on this site.

Yep, I solo him easily as a 60 hunter now that I have the strategy down... all you need is one heavy RC bandage. Set a freezing, send in your pet, aimmed shot, rapid fire, multi when his adds come, 1 add gets trapped, when the trap breaks FD and bandage while they finish off your pet, then finish him off using deterrence... I usually get him to around 15% and am back at full and its pretty easy, after hes dead FD and let the two adds run back into place.

This guy isn't too hard compared to some of the other mini-bosses. He has some stealthed elite rogue-type mobs around him (4 total, but 2 can be killed without aggroing him). It was a pretty straightforward kill, although I was told by someone he summons. I didn't see any evidence of that however.

tryed to see if he was soloable to drag my friend in (whos a hunter and got this ninjaed off him by a shaman).
managed to do it without pots 10k armor + darkmoon: heroism.
Had to heal after each add, but still an easy fight

Soloable by druid too. Finish off the adds first, stay in bear form and pop out to heal. Pretty basic fight.

Super easy 5/8 lightforge geared.
Kill 2 adds that are stealth in front of first as they wont agro him. Then kill the other 2 adds as you engage him as they have much lower hp. When there dead kill Vyletongue last. Was able to do without any pots, bandage, DI tricks. FYI dont waste mana casting holy shock, exorcism you should be saving it for heals.

He doesn't seem to drop the infernal leggings alot. It's usually the dagger or the cloth belt...Might just be my luck

The drop rate on the dagger must be wrong. I have killed this dude 23 times and still the dagger hasn't dropped. On the up side, I got to lvl 50 trying to get the dagger and now have a juilias dagger.

update on my own post :)
did this yesterday with me, a lvl 52 hunter, and a lvl 60 rogue. getting there was np. most of the places i could just run past within 10 yeards and get no aggro. when i got aggro, FD.
Boss himself went down pretty smoothly. trapped one add, rogue killed the other. plan was for me to kite vyletounge till 1st add was down, but turned out he was ranged, so i just sent my pet to tank him, while i tanked 2nd add. rogue killed the 2nd add while i used mend pet. then killed the boss. pretty easy.
got the leggings in first try, so the whole thing took about 20 minutes.

im yet to try this one but it looks simple enough, with hunter burst dmg raised... keep one trapped, pet tanking another add. wing clip, run shoot boss etc. i gotta try this, allso gonna see if i can solo the other mara bosses ^_^

Did this last night.

We had 3 level 48 hunters.

Cleared the first 2 stealthed, then we started on Lord Vyletonge. When the other 2 steathled joined
in, we switched to them. Once the adds were killed we FD, let LV kill the remaining pets. Stood up
Rez'd pets and then took him down. All in all it was a pretty was easy fight. And he dropped the
pants, Wooohooooo

Solo'd him as a level 52 hunter...pretty easy fight all in all. Run past mobs with low aggro, FD when one does aggro you. Got to him, killed the first two stealthed ones using long pulls, and then was ready for him. At level 52 with pretty poor quality gear, he hits pretty hard. Started out by sending pet in to tank him, pulled one add and froze it. Then I focused on him long enought to get him to about half health. The CC'd guy unfroze, started attacking me. Fd'd, and he ran back to my pet. At this point, a mend pet was necessary, and so I got the aggro a second time. Had to use a superior pot, but I killed Vyletongue and 1 add before my pet died. After he was down I just feigned again, ran in looted him, and received the belt for the 6th time. This boss makes me hate playing WoW.

I have also tried to solo him (60 hunter, beastmaster/mark) and he is really hard with his two mobs. Damn I want those legs :)

Alas, I can report that the method as described by haymem is no longer working right now, the close 2 invisbile adds left and right of Lord Vyletongue keep resetting, even though you have killed them and FD'd. When you come back they are there again (right beside their own corpse). :(
I am giving up to solo this as a lv 60 hunter.
