This fight is pretty much a standard tank & spank fight. The only nuance is that he hits hard, so your healer needs to be on the ball.

If you have the quest to kill him, make sure you destroy the remains in the same room as him. There will be one pile to either side of the room.

As you enter The Headmasters Study (the room with the 6 sub-rooms with the bosses), this encounter is on the upper level, straight across from the entrance.

Was not able to solo as a level 70 full epic frost mage. Did okay till he enraged, then he was hitting me for about 800-900 and I went down like a sack of potatoes. Probably soloable for other classes with a bit more armor, etc.

A hell of a fight as a fire mage. Died 5 times before killing him.

Ice Armor might be the difference between your death and his.

As for kiting him: jump off the balcony and nuke him as he runs around on top; as he goes down the stairs, blink through him and repeat if necessary.

Soloed at 69 paladin but had to use pots LoH and double bubble. Fine until he enrages but then you better lookout. HItting on 10k armour for 450ish but I was blocking 100 of that.

Difficult as a frost mage. 70 full epics, 8743/8501.

My strategy is this:

1: Pop an ice barrier and let the cooldown run down a bit so you can pop it early again.

2: Stand up on the railing by the entrance to the room and pop your pet, have it attack him. As soon as it's 1st bolt hit, pop your trinket/icy veins and lay into him as fast as you can. You will pull aggro from your pet before it dies.. when he gets to you he will likely be enraged.

3: Ice block and let him run back to your pet.. Just before he kills it, come out of ice block, pop another ice barrier and keep laying into him. He will kill your pet and come after you.

4: Cold snap, pop another pet, and keep firing until you are below 50% health.

5: Run to the outside of the room and jump off the railing.. go up near the top of the stairs and fire at him as he runs towards you, you should kill him before he gets to you.

6: If he reaches you you are on your own.. I assume blink through him, and take him to the other side, and jump off again... but he seems to like to leash if he is kited too much.

Good luck, and happy farming! I'm currently going for a full 0.5 set for the hell of it.. *shrug*. This is the only roadblock in this instance solo as a mage... the rest is cake.

As a 70 Feral Druid stealth farming Krastinov for my "epic" Sawbones Shirt, I feel as though I have perfected a safe route for any level 70 stealth class interested in the same. If you're crazy enough to farm a low drop rate for this gem, I've managed to boil down the instance to 3-4 fights, 2 of which are bosses (Rattlegore and Krastinov).

Gaining Entry:
If you're a Druid who doesn't have the Skeleton key to Scholomance, or any Seaforium charges to blow the door open; there is no need to worry. There are ways used in the days of old that made it easy to bypass Scholomance's keyed door.

Near the summoning stone should be two steep walls dug into the hill of Caer Darrow. From here I'd recommend un-equipping your gear, because you will be taking a swan dive off of the top of the House of Barov to access the instance. Use the two walls beside the stone to reduce your health below 10%. Once you've done that, go inside of the house and follow the broken path all the way up until you reach the rooftop. If you jump above the stone wall, directly below you should be where you entered the house; this is where you take the leap. If you are still alive, simply repeat the process of the jump.

Now, you're dead and wondering "how exactly did that help me get in Scholomance?" Spirits can pass through solid doors, silly. When you return to your corpse, go through the locked door and revive your body right at the instance portal.

Entering Scholomance:
As you enter the instance and move down the entrance steps, look to your left. There will be a broken part of the guard rail and below are a group of zombies. Stealth up and aim your jump to the side, you shouldn't break stealth through fall damage with Feline Grace or Safe Fall. You have two possible paths now: a locked door and an unlocked gate. Go through the unlocked gate and you should see another unlocked gate along the left side of the room. It leads to "The Ossuary," where the first, mandatory boss required to get to Krastinov resides.

The Ossuary:
When you pass through the gate you will notice many small alcoves with holes in the floor, leading to a pit full of skeletal remains and the bearer of the locked door's key, Rattlegore. Standing at the gate, take the immediate drop in the leftmost hole and hug the northern wall of the pit until you face two of the Risen Constructs and Rattlegore. Ideally, Rattlegore can be pulled safely with only killing one of the Constructs; pulling him alone can be tricky to master, it's also risky if you struggle on enraged mob damage.

Make sure to position yourself against the northern wall so that his knockback doesn't throw you into any adds.

Rattlegore:
Rattlegore himself is a very weak individual (susceptible to Bash and possibly Kidney Shot), the Constructs that scatter his room are much stronger than he is due to the fact that they enrage when they drop below a 50% threshold. This room will also give you perspective of the Krastinov fight. The Butcher hits almost 30% harder than a Construct when enraged, and he has the exact same health pool as Rattlegore (30,000 HP). Couple that damage with an untimely Backhand and you will be pressured, if not dead, before you have time to Heal or use your full Adrenaline Rush/Evasion cooldown.

Loot your key and head up the stairs in the southern part of the pit, retrace your steps back to the locked door you couldn't pass through. If necessary, clear the zombies in front of the door and head in. There will be another unlocked gate to your left, which leads to Krastinov's area, "The Headmaster's Study."

The Study:
Krastinov is located directly in front of you as you enter the Study, on the second floor. His room is populated by Diseased Ghouls that have a disease aura, pulsing damage if you get close to them which can lead to an unprepared fight.

If this is your first time killing Krastinov I would recommend clearing the room so you have a means of escape if he proves to be overwhelming. Leaving his room while engaged will reset him.

The Butcher:
This fight is a pure tank fight. He has no spells, only two abilities that he uses frequently. Rend and Backhand, which stuns you for three seconds. So long as you are able to stave off his flurry of damage with a mix of Agility gear for Crit/Dodge and Stamina gear as a Feral druid; or an abundance of cooldowns to throw at him as a Rogue; then you will do fine.

Pray your shirt drops, or end up dwindling on the edge of boredom writing long-winded guides like me. Apologies for the wall of text; but if this manages to help someone attain such a unique item, then I'm glad. :)

Soloed him today as a fire mage 0/50/11, I read people's suggestions here about jumping off the balcony but he resets if you do that. I killed him by using a nightmare seed to get my HP a bit up, used combustion, icy veins and popped a trinket and used mana shield. Nuked him down till he uses that stun ability, blink through him when he did that, popped a healing pot and nuked him down.

For BM's. Dont leave this boss last since you might need to kite him around the headmasters area. Ping Pong - him between your pet and you once he goes berserk. Dont waste mana on traps, use it for mend pet mostly and shots.

Watch your threat. He was tougher than i remembered and it was quite an close fight.

Combat rogue with mostly kara gear, I read all the comments here first and then decided to try this out.

I got to rattlegore and solo pulled him without killing anything else in the room and he was easily taken down. Next I stealthed back to the locked door and unlocked it from the side standing on the ledge as not to aggro anything then stealthed through the door and ran to the Doctor's room.

Stealthed past the ghouls and started fighting the doc... Burned all CDs right away but saved Evasion for his enrage. He never got me below 50% hp. All in all both runs together took less than 20 minutes and i luckily got the shirt on my 2nd run. Never had to kill another mob but the 2 bosses.

After many failed tries I managed to kill him as a lvl 70 Fire Mage (2/48/11)

Here goes my tactic:

1. Stand near the little stairway leading out of his room.
2. Use Combustion and pull with a Pyroblast followed by a fireball.
3. Run out of the room using Fireblast everytime it comes off CD.
4. When he is near you, jump down to the place Gandling will spawn later.
5. Use Icy Veins / Trinket and use Fireball and Fireblast until he gets to you.
6. Use Blink and run to the entrance of his room, jump again and drink a HP-Pot.
7. Again use Fireball and Fireblast to not lot him evade and do damage until he gets to you.
8. Use your Instants and move into Iceblock.
9. When Iceblock ends, blink and use your instants again.

At this point he was dead for me.

This guy is a joke as a 70 prot warrior... He didn't even hit me once. So to all those fury and arms warriors, equip your tanking gear. I didnt stand a chance in DPS gear :p

My group--war, druid, mage, priest--finally took him down last night after several attempts. He is tough, hits hard, and the aggro-wiping stun is a deal breaker for a small group. The trick is to surround him up close and personal. We had problems the first couple of times because after his knockdown/stun, his aggro list wipes and he seems to almost warp to the next person on the list..he moves fast. For some reason, though, with all four of us right on top of him, the war never lost aggro for more than one hit on the mage, and that was only a knockdown--no damage dealt at all. Turns out he's easy--now on to Darkmaster Gandling four-man. I'll let you know how it turns out.

We had a group of 5,

60 druid (resto)
60 Pally
60 mage
60 warrior (not all prot spec)
56 rogue (me)

and we could NOT take this guy down. we came sooo close 1 time but still no kill. He's impossible becuase he completely clears your tanks aggro no matter how many sunders and goes to the next person which was usually the druid which was our main healer. he'd kill the druid fairly quickly even tho he went into bear form and the tank was having a load of trouble pulling the aggro off. The pally even put on his sheild one try and tried to fftank him but couldn't hold the aggro either and he'd come after me, and I'd have to feint and then he'd knock the tank down and kill the druid. Very frustrating and he hits REALLY hard. We all had to pull out all our tricks to get him down to 5% and then he killed me 1vs1 when I had evasion on.

All the bosses in Scholo are easy as hell, just have to have the right party, every time i go i make sure its:

-Warrior (Me)
-Mage
-Pally
-priest
-Rogue

Me and my mates allways go together and we own the whole dungeon without any wipes. They key to the Dr is that the tank allways has his taunt ready since the dr shrugs off aggro ALOT. If the warrior knows what hes doing this boss should be easy.

I tried soloing Scholomance and my trip ended at this boss. I tried several tactics to solo him but all failed. I am demonology specced.

Tried this:

Voidwalker tank (full tank specced), dots and health funnel. Failed due to Krastinov stunning the voidwalker and coming for me. Retried with only using direct damage, also failed as the voidwalker simply can't regain agro once it has been stunned.

Tried kiting (speed enchant on boots), using dots and sacrificed voidwalker. Failed due to Krastinov running faster than me, even with me taking shortcuts. As he hits extremely hard, I couldn't continue kiting. Also, Krastinov evades if you dont hit him at least every 9 seconds (approx). Any later, and he will deagro and reset. If you are demonology specced, you suffer from the reduced dot range (Grim Reach may allow this to succeed).

This guys is a joke to solo as a 70 (full feral) druid. I took him in bear form in tank gear cos that's probably the safest way to go, but he could probably be done in dps gear. I was just under half life when he died. There's nothing fancy you need to do, just sit there and grind him down with mangle/swipe. iLotP was more than sufficient healing.

Haha, solo this as a Subtlety rogue is WTFLOLOMG? I got him to 50% with evasion... Evasion-preparation-evasion. Useless. He hits me for 500 dmg each hit and his speed is around 1,5sec i would guess...
Rather go with my warrior or so, cause it's impossible... Mostly cause he's immune to stun :S

GL with it though, that shirt is worth fighting for, indeed!

I came in here the other day for the hell of it, im a 70 hunter and i soloed everything up to this, i soloed frostwhisper and all the dudes in the other halls but i couldnt get this guy down. he hits like a truck and he kept stunning my pet and running after me. he was hitting like 500 a pop....maybe more :)

Soloed as an 18/0/43 Resto Druid in PVP Gear (775 +dmg, 288 res), tried several times by tanking him and dual boxing with my 61 rogue but no good due to his threat wiping.

Here's how you do it.

Hit him with a moonfire at max range and run out to the balcony area, you must keep your dots ticking at all times or he will reset, kite him around and around - he will catch you and hit you but not as bad as if you're just standing there and taking it like a chump.
Keep rejuv ticking away, if he stuns and starts mashing you jump down into the centre and heal up, then resume kiting around the top. Swiftmend rocks btw.
I used an innervate and one mana pot during the fight, once he drops below ~10% he slows down and won't be able to keep up with you, if you get him this far his arse is grass.

For my lv70 bm hunter, I was able to solo all other bosses in scholomance.. except this guy.
Frist half of the fight he's like all the other bosses, but at 50% he goes into his berserk mode and deals a hell of a lot of damage. I pet normally dies when he reaches around 15%, and on 5 occations I get him to around 4-5% before he kills me. Normally my feign death is on cd, and so are pots.

This guy is probably the hardest boss in this dungeon, at least for a hunter.

Nice drops on the table up there, but low rates.....I don't remeber for sure by whom, but I know Hammer of the Vesper dropped TWICE on one raid. I got one and a pally got the other. Slam a fiery enchant on it and its a flaming skull on a stick. It looks awesome and with a good shield, makes for decent tanking in these instances.

Very very hard to solo. 70 BM Hunter and I could just BARELY do it with a super health pot and Light of Elune. Used the immunity to rez the pet, FD and burned through the last 6% of his HP. Not quite worth it, IMO, but it was nice to finally solo the whole place.

As a 70 BM hunter I've solo'd this guy more then a few times, okay a lot. There is an "old" world trinket that make it easier and you MUST manage your dps. The Barov Peasant Caller may seem silly but it has it's uses. Here's generally how I do it and it still takes a couple of tries some times to do it.

Stand in the middle of the room
Hunters Mark the good doctor
Hit intimidate and send in the pet(my scorpion has 13k AC w/ no buffs if you know of a better one due tell)
Hit Beastial Wrath as soon as the pet makes contact
Fire off Scorpid sting then auto fire(refresh sting as needed)- no other shots to start
Mend pet as needed
Hit kill command AS soon as you can every time it's available

You will eventually take agro when the Doctor stuns your pet, as soon as he's running to you drop a snake trap, use the Barov Peasant Caller, and refresh the mend pet. Tank him for as long as you have agro or can stand it. Watch for the intimidate to refresh too. At this point I'd recomend feigning if your pet hasn't taken the agro back. Stay down for a second or two to let your pet generate more agro. This is where the snake trap and peasant caller come into their own. More times then not the Doctor will agro the peasants and snakes before your pet after you feign, giving the mend pet time to fully regen him. This is a double bonus as it also gives your pet time to generate added agro.

After that it's a tough fight. Continue to only use Scorpid sting and auto fire until the last 5% or so then open up with all you have. Bandaging can be done but tends to get agro. Drop snake traps when you can and keep the mend pet refreshed and hit intimidate whenever you can. He WILL reagro you again so try to save your healing pot for as long as you can.

His agro is very tough to have an exact plan for but this has worked well for me. Every time it's a close fight. I do it for the challenge not the pay off. The payoff comes from all the drops and shards I put in the AH later.
