in every rpg, i make myself a caster, preferably mage!
On RPGs i tend to go for rough/resilient classes, as starting with them allows me to survive the new world i will embark on, at least until i am more confortable, in which i may try other classes. Did the same with wow, starting as a warrior. It still exists today, but as an alt with leatherworking/skinning.
What class do I usually prefer? This completely depends on the type of rpg!For top down 3rd person perspective games, It's always going to be a barbarian class/warrior. There are very few things as satisfying as the crunching sounds you get from a large heavy axe crushing your enemies, and auto-aimed ranged attacks just feel like cheating. For first person perspective games with no auto aim feature (or one that can be turned off), archer/ranger/yeoman. I love the feeling of accomplishment from dropping the enemies healer with a 300 yard head shot. For games with a good pet control mechanism (command queuing, priority settings), the necromancer is the ultimate class. Who needs weapons when you have your own army of undead to command? Watch the look of delicious horror on the enemies faces as they realize that the ally they intended to resurrect rises up to fight against them. Watch as all hope flees from them as you march over the horizon with your writhing horde behind you.Savor the slow, dawning, realization that not only are they doomed to die, they too shall only add to your unstoppable army of horror. And lastly, for games with multiplayer options, the healer. Relish the ability to yank victory from the jaws of certain defeat with a well timed spell, pull your allies from the blackness of death, and stand against the never ending armies of evil with the confidence that "Yes, my gods are with me!" The visceral joy of destroying your enemy, the thrill of achievement, the taste of ultimate power, the feel of camaraderie , the horror of defeat, the strength of determination. This is what gaming is all about.
Glass cannon all the way! There's nothing quite like killing a room full of monsters in a fiery inferno, while at the same time being capable of being slain in two hits. Although I do love being the stealthy archer type from time to time, *cough* Skyrim *cough*.
I really like being a rogue / pickpocket in RPGs. It's great being self sufficient. You rarely have to buy anything... (Even then, you usually can score some coins from the poor sap you steal from.)

I'm normally playing a Ranger/Rogue combination for a RPG game - but at the moment I rolled a Mage in Skyrim for the laugh. My Ranger was 1 shot - 1 kill so it got boring in the end. A mage is much harder duo to the lack of heavy armor.
I really like to play the warrior, or heavy MDPS class in most RPG's. Runescape, the original Star Wars RPG before SWTOR was even breathed into existence, Skyrim, Dungeon Hunter, Final Fantasy, are some of the RPG's that have Warrior-based classes that suit my tastes. I like to get up close and personal, never mind those weak casters with their flimsy armor making their hands sparkle at me.Oh, and For the Horde!
Usually a warrior, but if there are none I'll pick an archer or a ranged. Evil alignment if game mechanics allow for it. The game's combat appears interesting. The involvement of R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane, and other big names shows promise.
I usually play some class of combination of melee and spell power, in WoW ex. I play a paladin. Also I most like to play as a cleanser of the world!
I usually play a warrior and sometimes i get into a mage. The just announced the final tier of magic/might as Champion! That will be my goal while playing Reckoning, who does not want to be the guy that can blow things up from afar and get in there and destroy you as melee :)
I like the role of the caster, be it as a healer or as damage. Shooting lightning from my fingertips has been a lifelong dream of mine.
In RPG's, you normally have a group to back you up, being Real Life Players or just the Computer, and because of that, I always try to be the healer, for the sole reason that I trust NO ONE to keep me alive!
Always the mage. Epic power at range plus other quirks (usually) mean awesomness.
i enjoy being a melee player idk just sumthing about hitting ppl is fun lol i guess thats why i play a warrior in wow charge ftw lol :)
I always play a DPS class of some sort. Usually start with a warrior or rogue type class.
Ranged dps. Preferally bathrobe wearing, fireball slinging elves.
I really do enjoy RPG's with good story. I've tried out the demo of this game. I really liked it. When I play RPG's I _always_ end up being a rouge. I'm not sure why it always turn out like that. They're just awesome. I love sneaking around, close or far away from enemies, without them not knowing of my presence. I like the way you usually can sneak attack, and deal really good damage even if you use daggers, versus the warriors usual twohander.
I usually play rogues. I like sneaking around, pick pocketing, and backstabbing. In wow my first toon was a paladin and I had a lot of fun there, but definitely I like stealth the most just for living on the edge, robbing, and sneaking my way in and out of trouble. I cannot wait for this game I plan on playing a magic user just so I can get a completely different feel then usual.
