my first epic ever was probably the best one ive ever gotten, it was back when i was lvl 40+ and of course i was running Zull Farak and i had decent group and a quest to kill the scarabs so we killed them all and Dropped and me being a prot Warrior at the time was perfect not to mention i rolled a 100 need on it :)
For me, it would have to be the old marshal's staff https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=18873. It may not be a drop, but it took FOREVER back when I got it to earn the honor points for it. Almost no mages had it, and not many went for it (opting for the blade and book instead). But it really is a one of a kind appearance, and I kept it with me all the way to 70, finally replacing its awesomeness with a staff from Kara.
My best loot drop came the day I joined my current guild. Here I was, brand new to the guild and I join them with my shadowpriest for a Kara run. We're working our way through the dungeon when we get to The Curator and the Gloves of the Fallen Defender drops. It's between me and the druid, I ask if it's ok for me to roll on them (trying to be polite as the new guy), they say yes. We roll. She rolls a 2. I roll 100. I went from "the new guy" to the guild celebrity for the day with that one :)

The most epic loot I ever got was the Headmaster's Charge. At the time I never saw more than one other person with it, it was the first item I'd ever seen with a group buff and it looked completely awesome. People stopped me and asked me about it all the time.It was -awesome-
The original PVP General set, before TBC.
I was running a normal Shattered Halls with a few friends of mine after dinging 70 and a True strike Ring dropped. Kept that till 78.
I know that this is not the most incredible story in this blog (I have read quite a few), but in truth it was epic to me. I was around level 63-66 and I decided that I was going to run the Auchindon instances to rack up spirit shards in an attempt to get https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28561. However, after doing Mana Tombs and watching a rogue steal https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25962 from me, I became obsessed with possessing two of them. I deemed this to be the greatest idea I had ever had, and devoted hours upon hours to running MT. After nigh on 14 runs I got my first ring (two others had been taken, much to my displeasure for I asked for the damn thing beforehand), and the next run it dropped again. The pure ecstasy upon reaching my goal of having two https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25962 was truly EPIC!
Muckbreath the baby crocolisk. nuff said.
My favorite loot was when I finally caught Old Ironjaw in Stormwind. It felt goooood.
