have been lucky to make some friends in WoW especially guildies
One week before Cata went live my pc died (RIP) and I had no money to get me another...I went back to WoW about 2 years ago, but I never again found The Raven (all her toons had Raven in their names).Lost are those great chats while flying up and down Northrend... :(
I've had the privilege of meeting many of the fine men and women I've played with over the years at LANs and parties and small meetups (and Blizzcon!). I also have to credit WoW with what led me to my boyfriend! Our guilds did alt runs together going back to TBC, and after a few breaks and some massive changes to our server's population dynamics, we ended up playing together on the opposite faction at the start of Cata. We got friendly, met up, decided to try out a relationship, spent a couple years dating long distance... and now we're finally living together. :) Raiding alongside a certain someone who used to raid hundreds of miles away is always a good reminder that all the cartoony characters on your screen belong to real people with real lives and real feelings, somewhere else in the world. Treat each other with respect and you just may find a friend (or more!) for life. :D
I have many WoW friends, we raid, BG and quest while talking on Ventrillo. I have met two of my friends outside of WoW. Holly lives in Florida and is my Guild Leader and Jeremy who lives in Alabama, although he plays horde, made an alliance toon just to be closer to me. I am the Guild Mom, being 55 years old and been playing for 7 years. A wonderful man named Jack who I eventually met, got me started on WoW and we played for years before drifting apart to live our lives. David lives in the North East and is my "husband" on Feathermoon. He I have not met, although we chat on Ventrillo and email frequently. Many other friends to numerous to mention have come and gone. My home away from home is World of Warcraft and Wowhead.
I haven't really developed any friendships so much as kept up some friendships of a few people that moved away. It's fun to "hang out" and chat while destroying Garrosh.
I'd love to meet with a lot of people in my old guild but no one is around much anymore... I miss the old days! Holy Templars baby! Or maybe just meet the scourge of Zuluhed... those who play there know of whom I speak!
When I first started playing WoW and the end of Vanilla/beginning of BC I was leveling a hunter. I forget the name of the guild I joined, but that's where my friend was. He'd helped me and invited me to the guild. I was nervous as I hadn't even been invited to a guild prior to that. I ended up scrapping numerous toons before I settled on an undead warlock that finally made her way to level 70. I was flying around Netherstorm when he pestered me to go to Mechanar. He said my warlock would be *perfect* for the instance. I explained my concerns and worries about having never done the place before. He set up raid markers for demons to enslave and told me what to do with my temporary pets. It was a nice and enjoyable run. I ended up with a Mana Wrath I never found an offhand for.I still speak with him to this day. We both have Skype and we've also exchanged phone numbers. He's a nice and sweet person while being a complete and utter goofball. I'm glad to have his amusement from time to time still.

Just before Cata came out a met this group of kids in Stormwind, they where just running up the trees on mammoths when I joined in and one of them started to whisper me. After a while of chatting they got me to join their guild and get on Ventrillo for the first time, I'd never talked to anyone online before so that was pretty cool, they where crazy! I have a lot of good memories of them though, we still chat through Steam or FB now but they've all but left World of Warcraft.
I've not met anyone in WoW that has transcended into an RL relationship, but I got my girlfriend into the game and we still play together. This goes also for my RL friends, whom I run our guild with.
I have been playing wow since 2007 and I first joined my guild when I was about 12 (Pretty young I know, but my older brother got me playing) I started to level and I hit the max level in about a year playing on and off. Soon after WolK launched and I quickly leveled up to 80 and did the gear grind and started to raid. I was about 13 almost 14 now and my guild leader wanted me to raid, because we needed healers and I was a holy pally at the time. He explained how to get vent and that night I did my 1st 10man of Naxx. Once he realized I was just a kid I figured he would kick me out or be nice and just get someone else, but instead he took the time to teach me the game and so did the rest of the raid team who happened to be all adults. He in a way was like a father I never really had. He taught me how to raid, and eventually lead raids, and he helped me mature. I still play with him today and he is someone I will never forget.
I've met some fun people in WoW, often through guild activites or random dungeons, but most people I talk to on WoW nowadays tend to be total perverts...I'm usually okay with that, though. Hey, don't judge me! Haha, but aside from that, most of the long-term friends I have on WoW are people I've met elsewhere (not initially from WoW.)Interestingly, I've actually made more lasting friendships in the game I played before WoW. Ragnarok Online was my first MMORPG. I also met Wowhead's own Noxychu on that game before she left for WoW and started working for Wowhead (god that feels like forever ago!) In fact, I've even kept in touch and still play games with some of my other friends from RO on Steam.I've met a few people in real life whom I first met in online games when, by chance, they happened to be local to me (and occasionally I knew some were local but we never got around to hanging out x.x blahhh) but yeah. The easiest way is to go to conventions...a lot of people who play online games go to the same cons. Generally they attract a good crowd and tend to be relatively safe compared to other places. Plus you can be open about yourself and no one judges you too harshly, and cosplaying is fun too! :D
I have some friends IRL that I play WoW with and my boyfriend of 6 years plays as well, we met IRL then started playing around 4 years ago. I've never met any friends from WoW IRL but I wouldn't mind meeting my guildmates :)
I met a random guildie I got along with a few years ago and we hit it off instantly! we used to spend hours on the phone to each other before I ended up moving in with him and we've been together now ever since so about 4 years!
Too many guys meeting their WoW "girlfriends" and figuring out that they are guys too.
The best friend I ever met playing wow, was a rogue who started questing with me in Stranglethorn Vale around the beginning of BC. I was still leveling my first character and we both died probably forty times each that night fighting all the elites and getting trashed by all the horde. For a long while we would quest together until we hit 70 and then we went our separate ways. Good memories of how huge and epic the game was even then, and how you could come across someone and help each other out. Reading some of the comments here, I'm glad some people had similar experiences. It is something pretty unique to this game, every time I play I kind of hope that will happen again. Maybe that's why I've leveled up so many alts. It's a big reason why I always jump in and help people out when they ask questions in chat, or are getting killed by some other players or tough mobs.
My best friend is also my ex-guild leader (and may be my guild leader again in the future, if I come back to raiding). I met him back in 2005, when he and his guild took the free transfers from Shattered Hand to Bloodscalp that Blizzard was offering at the time. When the guild leader of that guild decided they were going to quit raiding, and that their guild tag was going to quit with them, I stepped up to help my friend lead the new guild he made, which—after several years—is really close to being a top 100 guild (might even BE if you only count 25-mans, I'm not sure). I stopped raiding last year because of personal issues but he and I still keep in touch and I keep half-joking that he should fly out here this summer and I'll cook for him, since he always gets jealous when I tell him what I'm making for dinner, haha.(That said, I'm WAY too much of a wuss—and an unattractive gamer stereotype—to actually apply. But I definitely thought about it, haha :x)
When I was in the Marine Corps I started to play WoW so my son and I would have something in common, We met a Shaman and a Priest that showed us the ropes gave us a home (guild) and just made playing so cool. Eventually we found out that one half of the couple was also an active duty Marine and we ended up at the same duty station for about a year, it was great fun working together all day then getting home and blowing off steam together during Vanilla and BC. Eventually my son and I changed servers and moved on but we are still friends IRL with those friends we made in WoW.
