There was NOTHING wrong with CATA (or WOD for that matter). Cata was amazing and I still enjoy the xpac's content to this very day. Blizzard needs to find a way to talk to REAL players, not just rushers and grinders. If someone complains, it is probably because they ran through the same content on multiple alts and have burned themselves out. But, just from them asking about the community's thoughts on CATA shows us there will be no end in sight for these classic remakes. It would be cool if they were actually the same as when the expansions first released but after all the changes to classic and BC classic, that ship has sailed! If devs really want to know player's opinions, then send a questionnaire to all account holders, rather than just the vocal .01% that never seem to be satisfied. The majority of WOW players have never had problems with any of the expansions and never will. Some little things might not be what we prefer, but not so much that we would whine and cry about it for days on the forums. My idea: Remove all classics, put vanilla content back in retail and BAN anyone that talks trash about WOW or the devs.
Also, many current retail WOW players would love to go back to the old vanilla content - so long as we can do it with the characters we have that already went there for years up until cata launched. Now your most loyal subscribers who have been with you the longest have to reroll on wow classic, which isnt even an exact duplicate of the original WOW. So many of us are not fans of new players experiencing classic when the players that have actually been to the real WOW vanilla content cannot access it on our characters. How do we fix this? EASY! Remove all classics. Put vanilla content back into retail wow. And find a way to let chromie time allow players to experience patches while they are in older xpansions. Thats the golden ticket right there. Bring everyone back under retail. But no matter what, NEVER NEVER NEVER let any classic characters come to retail realms. The moment that happens, everything millions of players have worked for will be destroyed by welfare characters.
The question is WHO are they going to ask. I'm excited for Wrath but I play both classic and retail, splitting my time. My guess is they'll ask the die hard classic players and the folks with less play time will get sidelined when the question gets popped.
They want to hear us from us ? Is that a galaxy-sized joke ? Can't they hear us when we said that we absolutely want RDF for the first patch of WOTLK ? No, so why bother..? lmao
Just put up a cata arena tournament realm, the S9 one that blizz used for the whole xpac is fine. Cata pvp class design was amazing.
The most likely case is semi-Classic+ with content from later expansions but Classic mechanics. For example, imagine polished versions of Warlords of Draenor, Battle for Azeroth, or Shadowlands but with Classic talents, stat systems, content release frequency, no mission boards, no dungeon finder, etc. Would be much more enjoyable than the retail version was. It is also possible that Retail will become the "beta" of systems and those that worked out well will be making it to the Classic versions. There are those who say that Cataclysm+ classes are against the very essence of Classic, but for myself I really want to play Cataclysm druid - it felt very good. And what I also want is the patch 4.0.1 period, which was basically WotLK with Cataclysm classes and systems - the world was still the old pre-shattering one - even the login screen was the WotLK one. Also the pre-shattering events such as the flooding of Stormwind or the cultist quests were nice to play.
The option to copy our classic characters on to retail after Wrath classic is finishedIf we do continue into cataclysm for whatever reason they better not gut transmog
https://cataclysmsource.blogspot.com/2009/08/path-of-titans-update.htmlLet's go ahead and get that back in for 'cata classic'
I think there is more money in not repeating cata and doing some new xpac with classic style. Classic players and retails players would prob both play that at least at first. sure people would play cata if it came out but how many really want to be nostalgic about cata. and it sounds like if they did cata it would be altered in ways. Blizz can do whatever they want with the story, not like they are afraid to mess up the lore at this point. so I say go big make a new branched off timeline. Maybe even have an event in retail that has some chromie style time travel with the consequence of changing the path after wrath. more of a multiverse thing so the event won't effect current retail but create a separate new timeline (or we can just blame it on Dr Strange's and spiderman). For example, someone kills deathwing before he goes on his rampage and in doing so there are many people that end up living who should have died. One of those lucky souls being the next big bad and his goons who will be the raid bosses of the new xpac, enemies totally new to the wow story. What kind of enemy or zone would you create in this situation? maybe a new land mass, if so where and what? what kinda of theme and any new classes or races? would you want old world flying added? I am curious to hear some crazy ideas so don't hold back, no idea is a bad idea unless it's to add furries or its having an underwater zone, rest in peace Vashj'ir. ;P
Well, they ugly'd the place up. Destroyed all the wonderful Alliance cities. Made the entire world just one big war zone, no escape from that. Just didn't make sense. And since that was the very diffinition of what a cataclysm is, I don't expect that to change. Been there, won't do it again. Also, I agree with the overall trend here that his 'looking for input' sort of answer was b.s. Every player suggestion or comment about what they didn't like, will be met with a thanks for writing, here's why that has to stay in the game sort of response.
Gurgthock is a clown. How this guy is still employed is beyond me.
The whole point of Cata was "breaking" the original world and preventing everyone from playing the game that it was before that. It's a flawed concept that created the need for some kind of "Classic" in the first place. There's no way to fix it, IMHO.Also, it needs to be said that Wrath completed the building out of the "World" that existed in the Warcraft games prior to Vanilla. That makes it even easier to think of Cata as an endpoint for the "Classic" game. You literally couldn't pay me to play the game past that point. It's a waste of effort.
The Problem with Cata forward was the talent compression and a lot of choices taken away from players. That's what it was more me at least.
