With this week's maintenance, players are able to reach Renown 76, empowering new Soulbind rows, obtaining a
Wisps of Memory
, and increasing the item level of World Quests. Besides those gains, this week also unlocks the possibility to upgrade Korthian gear to Rank 6 and item level 233.
In order to upgrade Korthian gear to 233 you must reach Renown 75 and Tier 6 reputation with
The Archivists' Codex
to purchase
Research Report: First Alloys
, which, in turn allows you to upgrade the items to rank 6. The upgrade costs 0
Cataloged Research
per item and the unlock is not account-wide.
Patch 9.1.5 brings many improvements to Archivist's Codex Reputation, making many of its requirements account-wide or many times faster. With Patch 9.1.5 you will still need to reach Renown 75 on each character to upgrade Korthia gear to 233, but the Tier 6 requirement will be account-wide.

This is an embarrassing unlock. 99.99% of players who are t6 archavist codex rep did it for sockets and conduits for mythic progression and don't need i233 gear. If there's a single player in the game who's t6 rep and actually needs i233 gear I'll sell my house and move to Alaska
Watch out. You're asking all the casuals to hit you with that 'Have fun in Alaska' normie line. And they are quite alot.
233 is like mythic 10 gear ? I don't know I quit the game 2 months ago and I was 247 for god's sake ..
It's more and more clear that 80% of the player base just farms flowers and sews mittens in this game, yet everywhere on the forums, they're the most vocal on the game state and what needs to be done ..
If only there were some kind of clue as to why the majority of players are the most vocal on the forums.

Are we allowed to say Renown wasnt the best system yet? (or at least this time gated version of it)

I'll give my left elbow if anyone who isn't Rank 6 by now, isn't also fully IL 233+ in every slot. Even my THREE alts who aren't R6 are all mostly 233+ this late into the patch and they do a single +15 per week. Hell, my 1-2 week old 4th alt is IL 226 and he's done less than 10, +10s.
Hope you dont like your left elbow...
Ive been playing 4-5 days a week since prepatch. My pally is 226 gear and my best geared toon. I also have 5 other lvl 60s though. also im not rank 6 on any toon (3 of my 60s havent even been to korthia). got burnt out @ rank 5 weeks ago. i am exalted with death advance though ;-)

This is an embarrassing unlock, but not for those reasons. What is embarrassing is that it has taken this long to unlock it. Deity forbid that a casual player be allowed to have gear less than 20 ilvls away from a player that is doing group content. Because people running dailies and Torghast aren't allowed to have decent gear to help kill things faster. Instead punish anyone not raiding or doing M+ with crappy gear that makes everything a slogfest. Capping casuals at 226 this far into the expansion is terrible. The fact that so many people in this thread are happy to finally get 233 is sad. You get crumbs and think that Blizzard is doing a good job.
For the record, I no longer raid, but I do get my weekly M+ in (often only 1) and have 240ish ilvl from that. If I was actually Tier 6 (just hit Tier 5) I could even use this new upgrade to replace that 1 stubborn 226 piece RNG won't let me get rid of.

I'm of the opinion that all the different end games should have gear sets that go up to a maximum threshold for their own end game, but drop say 15 ilevels when in other end games. That way a person doing world content can get ilevel 252 gear or whatever for while they're doing outdoor content, but it'll only be 246 or so when they go into a raid. That means they get good progression and specialisation in what they do, they can more easily move into other endgames without having to start from scratch, but they also can't do the best in those endgames without putting in some work.
