If you're Horde, the innkeeper @ Freewind Post in Thousand Needles sells these, so if you can get the clam meat and the eggs in the neutral auction house, fly there to pick up the cheese, and save yourself a ton of time.

The Cenarion Circle care package gained from Bashana Runetotem usually contains four Alterac Swiss. This is gained from completing the Morrowgrain quest in Un'Goro Crater and is repeatable as many times as you want. Might not be the most efficient way of getting them if you're doing so as part of the quest for achieving artisan level in cooking, as you would have to complete the Morrowgrain quest three times to get enough for it (and it can take a while) but you can always save them in your vault if you have not received the cooking quest at the time.

The new easy way to get Alterac Swiss is to enter the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, ride to the bottom, and purchase them from the Keepers of Time provisioner inside a little ruined house. It would be most convenient to pick them up when farming nearby turtles for clam meat.

Alliance has tons of places to buy it.

Horde needs to buy it from the innkeeper in either Thousand Needles or Arathi.

I believe the vendors sell them 5 for 40 silver. Of course, by this time you should be honored in at least one city, so you should be able to get 5 for 36 silver. It's really not that much, only 1.6 gold or 1.44 gold if you're honored. Giant Eggs are kind of annoying to get though.

Interested in some free Alterac Swiss? Doing the Morrowgrain to Darnassus quest rewards you with a Cenarion Circle Cache... one of the items you will often find in there is your beloved cheese =)

perhaps it's me or thot has got the info wrong again. you can clearly see that it's stated.. "altarec sold in IF inn" - it is not. not in the inn, not by the barman(dwarf) not by the barmaid either.

Alterac Swiss can also be purchased on the horde side, at the Thunderbluff inn from the innkeeper for 40s for a stack of five or at the Inn in Hammerfall (in the Alterac Mountains. Suprise!)

You can get this for the cooking quest (at 225 cooking) from the caverns of time provisioner. I've just been to see him on my 56 pally, no hostiles on the way. Means that all 3 of the things you need to collect for the quest can be collected in Tanaris.

If you're trying to be efficient, the bartender (not innkeeper) in the Wildhammer Stronghold in the Hinterlands sells this.

This is convenient because the wildkin in the Hinterlands are one of the better sources for Giant Eggs, and if you're a skinner or miner there is good leather/metal to be had in the area as well.

The main Horde vendor of Alterac Swiss is Innkeeper Abeqwa, located in Freewind Post in Thousand Needles.
He is not in Arathi Highlands, Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, Scarlet Monastery, Razorfen Kraul, Ragefire Chasm, Stonetalon Mountains, or any other places.

I chased all over looking for the NPC, so I could complete the cooking quest, and I wish to help others avoid this confusion.

found myself looking this up because you can't buy this anywhere in ironforge. but as stated above, you can buy it in stormwind. and im buying it for cooking quest.

seems lame that they make this THE food drop in strat/scholo, but the quest needing it is 45. now how is a 45 gunna get food from lvl60 raid zones? im glad its vendor buyable.

Those "special deals" (under 40s) some of those Alliance NPCs seem to be offering? It's not true, not correct. They ALL charge 40s, so don't bother traveling, thinking you'll save gold.
