Speed is reduced to 1,3 sec ....

for Rogues that means much less damage with their skill "Deadly Throw" ....
because of the lower min+max damage
Rogues should use the much cheaper "old" version of this for only 870 Arena Points to get much more damage done.

Actually Andiii is right on the money.

Deadly throw's damage is (With no ranged equipped):

1 point: 164-180
5 point: 584-600

PLUS thrown damage.
So with my felsteel whisper knives (and you can check the tool tip - it'll change to reflect this) which have a damage range of 134-135.

With whisper knives on:

1 point: 298-315
5 point: 718-735

You'll note those values are the unequipped values + min and max damage on the weapon itself.

This is why the tool tip says it causes "Increased thrown damage". Which is exactly what it does. It is in fact totally RAP indepedant as far as the tool tip is concerned.

So does RAP effect DT's damage at all? Let's find out. With 1555 RAP on a random mob doing 1 point throws I get:

Very clearly RAP DOES increase the damage, but not the tool tip. But by how much?

First we need to figure out the % armor reduction of the random mob:

This is easy. Kick (110 damage, not modified by anything) does 79 damage. Thus 28.18% damage reduction.

462.8-398.7 = 64.1/0.7182 = 89.25 damage

585 RAP/14 = 41.8 DPS

89.25/41.8 = 2.135 seconds. This is sadly inconclusive since it doesn't tell us if we're just slightly off of the 2.2 speed of the whisper knives (Due to small data sets) or normalized to 2.1 speed.

Solution? With 1553 RAP (As close as I can easily get to 1555 without my whisper knives) and some blacksteels (35-67 1.8 speed) we get:

398.7-308.4 = 90.3 = 83.5, 90.3-83.5 = 6.8

6.8/0.7182 = 9.47 damage difference

But is this difference due to small data samples or the fact that DT isn't normalized and the weapons have different speeds?

(1553/14)*1.8 = 199.7
(1555/14)*2.2 = 244.35

44.65*0.7182 = 32 > 9.47 damage difference!

Given all this what can we conclude?

DT's damage is a base damage from the skill PLUS the weapon damage PLUS your RAP normalized to 2.1 (Which is not reflected in the tool tip).

This is not surprising, this is just like how all other normalized attacks work. The AP portion is normalized, however the base damage of the weapon is not. So the difference between the season 2 still being 1.3 speed and the season 1 being 1.9 (Remember, it started at 1.3 just like the offhands moved from 1.8->1.5) is quite significant since the RAP and base damages will wash. Despite the higher DPS of the Season 2 axe it will do on average 42 (Pre armor reduction) damage *less* then the season 1 when deadly thrown assuming the speeds don't change.

As a further kick in the teeth - faster thrown weapons do NOT in fact let you pull faster, all thrown weapons take 0.5 seconds to throw and the speed only controls the CD until you can throw again. Thus the ONLY time a fast ranged weapon would be preferable is if you were throwing multiple normal throws at a single target, and even then it's questionable since those aren't RAP normalized and every ranged attack has an extra 0.5 seconds stuck onto it's listed speed.

However, for a warrior, this is ideal. We really don't care about slow, high top-end damage for a range weapon, so it's worth the 100+ points to get the item with increased stats.

As of Season 4, this is now 8000 Honor Points and 10 Eye of the Storm Marks.

This is an excellent all-around ranged weapon for warriors. High stamina, great stats, and it's pretty cheap in terms of arena gear. Just three weeks at an average-rated team and you've got it.

I'm not sure how we went from Merciless Gladiator's Crossbow of the Phoenix (which, in its own right, looks just as cool as it should be for how damn expensive it is) to Merciless Gladiator's War Edge, which looks like an ordinary throwing axe. (Flightblade looks better than this. The War Edge resembles some manner of spatula.)

I'm hopin' and a-prayin' we get some sort of ubercool graphic for this one patch. Kinda like how the Hand of Eternity went from being a Level 1 Priest Mace graphic to the Ahn'Qiraj beatstick we all know and love today.

As of 11/27 Merciless Gladiator's War Edge are now the same price that the S1 War Edge's were which is 870 arena points. Enjoy!
