deciding if i want to enchant this with anything...

on the one hand there are 2 equivalent weapons as an elemental shaman (cant use any of the swords):
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28770 (prince drop)
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30723 (smv world boss drop)

doubt i will have a shot at the smv world boss anytime soon, prince drop is a maybe. so against demon bosses (of which there are many) this would actually be an endgame weapon for me. not to mention i grind demons for $$$

i was planning on enchanting this with demonslaying because i thought getting the enchant would actually help me slay demons. unfortunately as far as i can tell its a melee only enchant. so do you think it would be worth putting +40 spell damage on this thing? or should i hold out for a mindblade... i am also planning on getting a gladiator dagger which is like a mindblade but without hte 1% crit...

Instant Attacks

The mechanics of most instant melee attacks have been modified to improve item balance. Previously, instant melee attacks did damage based on the damage range of the weapon, plus a bonus for the player's attack power. This bonus was then multiplied by the speed of the weapon. As a result, slow weapons did more damage than was intended, and fast weapons were considered inferior by most players. We have changed the way the attack power bonus is calculated for instant attacks. This change does NOT affect attack power calculations for normal melee attacks. Instead of multiplying by the speed of the weapon, the attack power bonus is now multiplied by a fixed number pulled from the following table:
o Two-handed weapons: 3.3
o Daggers: 1.7
o All other one-handed weapons: 2.4
As a direct result of this, many weapons have shifted position in their relative power. In particular, many Epic (purple) quality items are now more powerful than slower Superior (blue) weapons.
This change was not made to reduce the power of instant attacks, but to correct the relative imbalance of weapon itemization. At a given level requirement, epic quality weapons should always be more powerful than superior quality weapons.
Please also note that all normal weapon swings will be completely unaffected by this change. The following abilities are affected by the design change: Sinister Strike, Ambush, Backstab, Whirlwind, Mortal Strike, and Overpower.

lets say you got 2 imaginary daggers.

Dagger of Fast Smiting
Weapon dmg 50-150, Weapon speed 1.00
100dps

Dagger of Slow Smiting
Weapon dmg 100-300, Weapon speed 2.00
100dps

you also got 1.4k ap (with 14ap=1dps it means 100dps from it)

now before 1.8 a backstab was calculated like this:
1.00 weapon speed dagger:
(weapon dmg*1.8)+225+(1.00*attackpowerdps)=(90-140)+225+100=415-456 dmg

2.00 weapon speed dagger:
(180-540)+225+200=625-965dmg

after the normalization:
1.00 weapon speed dagger:
(weapon dmg*1.8)+225+(1.7*attackpowerdps)=(90-140)+225+170=485-535 (a 70 dmg increase)

2.00 weapon speed dagger:
(180-540)+225+170=595-935dmg (a 30 dmg decrease)

it still means a dmg difference only by weapon speed. ofc daggers are not 1.00 and 2.00 and the ap part of the calculation gets higher with each tier i guess so the weapon dmg part becomes more and more negligible, but its still there and should count for your calculations on instant attacks.

ofc also normal attacks (white dmg) didnt get changed at all, so the first calculation and higher difference still applies there.

the weapons from the quest chain are worth it for anyone doing karazhan. for a caster, they're better than anything you can get pre-Prince/Nightbane, making them great weapons to use when learning Illhoof and Prince or even certain 5-man fights.

that said... keep in mind the +damage is vs demons only. it won't be replacing your regular weapon.

For healing priests, shaman and druids, this is a great weapon to keep for the Leotheras the Blind boss fight in Serpentshrine Caverns. Swap over to this weapon when you are faced with your Inner Demon and then swap back to your normal healing weapon(s) afterwards.

Actually i took this sword with my warlock to farm on Legion hold.Everything there is demon and this thing has a v good spell dmg against demons and with my off hand i did an enchant of 40 spell damage(https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=22555) too and it rocks!Use this to farm at holds if you are aldor it is very useful!

This is a reward from a very long chain of quests starting from a mob in Shadowmoon Valley and the Legion Hold.

The quest is called : Quenching the Blade

Yeah its only demons but its freaking 185 spelldmg on demons. Lots of demons in outland. And 50% of mobs in tempest keep is demons. And the good thing about weapons you can swich them in combat.

u have to remember, The Black Temple is going to be the next instance released...dont ask me when - i dont know, but in the black temple, it will ALL be demons - so for raiding, this dagger, is simply amazing

This is as good as good as the best daggers in kharazan...vs demons. BUt there are a good number of demons in outland that justify the long chain. i think it has a good use in 5-man istances (maybe heroics). it becomes less useful when u can get (raiding in khara) powerful daggers which work 4 all the kinds of enemies

Weapon easy to get. Great spelldmg. Well it's against demons only, so overall it's pretty useless, but when you encounter demon, just pop up this dagger. It is no effort to get it after all. And if you're not doing raiding, but yet "sometimes" fight demons this will help.
P.S. Was just pissed off on that lazy people, who are too lazy to switch weapon, when see demon.

These weapon are vs demons only and can be obtained after a long, yet cool questchain.
It may cost a few gold but if you spend it wisely the goldrewards from the quests make up for that.
Furthermore the dagger with +spelldmg is awsome for any mage farming demons for Netherweave Cloth / Mark of Sargeras / Fel Armament / money in let's say Death's Door. Made alot of gold there using this baby.
Still have my Mana Wrath for other types of mobs, would use the dagger vs any demon in SL/TK/whatever instance.

As of the patch notes for patch 2.1, April 13th 2007, this weapon will no longer be a dagger, but will be a sword. Because priests can choke on it. I honestly don't know why Blizzard hates priests so much.

This dagger saved my butt during Leo the blind in SSC.

Im a resto shaman with little spell damage, but equipping this weapon when my inner demon popped up made killing him so easy.

Besides for that instance in SSC I have never used this dagger, but as i said I am a healer

This quest and weapon is the culmination of a long chain of quests that start in Shadowmoon Valley.

unfortunately the first step of the quest will cost you about 50G and if you happen to be a pally(like me) you can't even use the weapon at the end of the chain.
