Anyone know how much this heals for and how often it procs? I'm kind of torn between this and the 18 stam one for tanking.

This will get negative ratings and no one will ever see it... BUT.....

120-180 HP? When you have 10k unbuffed at this point?... youd get better use out of putting a lifestealing enchant on your Quel'serrar.

how does the gem-requirement work? 5 of each color seems a little hard to attain, especially for a druid tank. Pre-raid, most of the best tanking equipement are socket-less blues and greens from questing.

https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25896 seems like a reasonable alternative, as the Clefthoof-hide gear has lots of blue sockets.

Basically a Darkmoon Card: Heroism in gem form with +defense.

Things to note:
- heals for around 120 avg.
- both the +defense skill passive stat and the proc will not work if ones gem count doesn't meet the requirments
- When selecting gems one must remember that gems can share multiple colors (typically 1-2 with a few exceptions). So in other words if a gear has 3 red slots and one sticks in Purple (red+blue) Gems the gem count is registered as 3 red and 3 blue or Orange (yellow+red) Gems for 3 red and 3 yellow. Because all gems in the slots are still red one gets the socket bonus and an extra gem count to boot.

This from a Botanica full run with no wipes. Not a lot of healing, especially compared to what crusader used to do. It does however at least proc with other healing enchants like battlemaster.

Lesser Heroism = 5127 (1.2%) 0/115 0.0% 44.6 Avg I've never seen it proc over 80 on a heal.

Only 120-180 healing? That's pretty sad considering this is a Meta gem requiring other specific gems/sockets and is only effectively available on high level gear...

What's a 180HP proc to a warrior with 10k HP? Color me unimpressed.

If it is a 120-180ish heal, keep in mind this is in comparasion to the 'other' tanking meta gem, Powerful Earthstorm Diamond at https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25896 which is 5% stun resist and 18 stamina. The 18 stamina is obviously 180 HP, or even with Vitality and/or Kings, 190-200ish.

So if 180 heal seems so small and insignificant, think of it in terms of the other gems available, and whether you'd prefer a 180 max or an occasional 180 regeneration.

I took the Powerful Earthstorm Diamond for myself because I would have had to switch around some gems in other gear to make this one active. With the straight +stam gems being blue, as a tank, 'Powerful' becomes the one much easier to maintain.

Not only is the COH 120-180 heal comparable to gaining 12-18 stam every time it processes (hopefully more then once per battle), but this also should create a lil extra aggro in PVE groups and if your a prot. warrior soloing, then every bit of healing helps in sticky situations. :p

The 5% stun resist of the Powerful E.D. is very nice as well, but not all PVE mobs do stuns. This seems like it would be more useful in PVP gear.

+12 Def is comparable to the +18 stam due to basicly being 2 gems. both are pretty strong and great for tanking, but again I think the Tenacious' +Defence is more useful for PVE so the +Stam would be better if your PVP'n.

When u think it, none of the gems, enchants, or kits are super insano. They weren't meant to be overkill by themselves. Most important is picking the right ones for what the gear will be used for.

"On hit" means when you deal damage, same as all the other healing proc effects (crusader, battlemaster, darkmoon: heroism, mark of conquest)

It's a passive effect so yes, it does proc in cat/bear forms.

I'm a lvl 70 Warrior, and MT for my guild. I had this meta gem in my T4 helm for about 3 weeks. I raided Karazan, and Gruuls Lair with it. I am dissapointed in it's very low procrate. Perhaps I might be blind to it when tanking, but I will tell you I never see this proc. I don't know if it has an animation, or a buff icon, but it never shows.

I tryed testing it in a duel and it proc once. My health went up about 120, but I still didn't see any animation. The 12 defense is nice but the 18 stam gem is a far better choice. I will tell you this, it was a pain in the neck to meet the gem requirments for this meta gem.

The Gem requirement as of today is 5 Red Gems, 5 Blue Gems, and 5 Yellow gems. The discrption on top is incorrect if it's refering to the live servers.

After the patch 2.1, it seems that this has been nerfed. This only heals the bearer for 40-60 health instead of 120-180. What a piece of %^&*..

Although according to my mod, it seems to have a 5-10% proc-rate.

Good Meta to get in combination with Battlemaster enchants, Mark of Conquest, and Darkmoon Card: Heroism. Gotta love it!

As a Bear Tank, actually as any tank, this seems sub-par.

The 18 Stamina gem in Bear form turns into 18*1.51 or 27.18 Stamina after talents. That's ~272 Hit Points. 290 I think with Kings.

If this gem has a 5% proc rate, heals for an average of 50 HP per proc, and procs on instant attacks, it's still not that good. Assuming infinite rage, and assuming you're spamming Mangle/Swipe/Lacerate, as well as FF and Demo. Roar, you're probably getting about 30 hits a minute, plus your regular attack which swings about 21 times a minute.

Assuming you land your normal hits 18 times (of 21), and land your specials about 30 times (of 40 possible); you're hitting about 48 times a minute. Lets round down to 45 just for miss streaks, repositioning, low rage, etc.

So, 45 attacks * .05 proc rate * 50 avg. healing = ~112.5 healing per minute. That means that you heal that extra 272 in about 2min 25s; or 290 in about 2m 35s.

Most boss fights are going to last longer than 2.5 minutes. So, after that you're actually healing yourself more than those extra HP from the 18 stamina.

But that extra healing is practically non-existant when you take into account real raid situations, which involve a fair amount of over-healing. I would guarantee that in any given encounter, having an extra 272hp (even less max will net you a LOT more actual healing than this gem does. That's an extra 272hp EVERY TIME you're healed to full.

Warriors with a 1.8s weapon, spamming 40 instants a minute attack about 73 times a minute. Assuming about a 15% miss rate from Miss/Parry/Dodge and using non-attack abilities on potions like Shield Wall etc, let's say you actually land about 62 hits a minute. 63*.5*50 = ~158 healing per minute.

Better, but I'd still say your healers are probably doing more than 158 points of overhealing per minute.

So basically, this gem is the worse of the two tanking gems unless you NEED the extra 12 defense.

Most tankadins will have the Sacred Duty talent, making them get 6% hps out of their stamina. So a Powerful Earthstorm will be worth 18 * 10.6 for 190 hps. Not to mention they will most likely have BoKings on, so add another 10% for 209 hps.

As a tank, it's not about waiting and hoping on some gimmick heal to proc, which is why tankadins don't figure redoubt into their uncrushable status,i t's about the hps being there to begin with.

imo a good choice for tankadins. yes, we are gimpped on stamina and 18 stam is pretty compelling. BUT, reckoning will help the proc rate. this meta is more health in the long run, and a small bump in avoidance too.

No one's mentioned it, but this gem is ideally suited for AOE farming as a protadin. Reckoning measurably increases the proc rate as well.

Why Blizzard nerfed this to be nearly useless is out of my comprehension. When I first got my T4 helm I evaluated some Meta Gems, but didn't really do much research on this specific one. Too bad really, because I wasted 100g on this gem right after it had been nerfed. I tested it in both Cat and Bear form, and thb I believe Blizzard nerfed it because the crits were overwhelming. After a half hour of grinding, watching the procs, it crit 95, and I was like /wrist and bought myself the 18 stamina 5% stun resist one.

They may as well downgrade the quality of this gem to gray. Make it a Spirit Shard reward or something.

actually on tankatronic with the KoT 16/17 glyph, thats a total of 70 def rating, which is a big chunk of what you need for crit immune, thus freeing up other gear slots for more avoidance items (andormu's tear) and spell dmg, stam, and block value items for us tankadins (s1 shoulders, vindicator's belt, the block trinkets, my beloved goblin rocket launcher)

the heal isnt much threat, especially as a tankadin, but i wont complain about free threat and heals:)

Altho the nerf it seems to be affected by bonus healing making it suitable for a Paladin Tank, best for solo AoE farming. Could anyone confirm this? Or did i somehow managed to miss a talent or buff that might increse this heal instead of my bonus damage/healing.

As a Prot Paladin with 400 healing, this gem just procced for 44.

Which means the healing coefficient has been hotfixed and this gem is now close to useless compared to many other gems.

Does anyone else see the use in this for farming lower instances as a Feral Druid? I tend to go in and grab huge packs and just swipe spam.

Tenacious Earthstorm Diamond:

Improved Leader of the Pack:
Your Leader of the Pack ability also causes affected targets to have a 100% chance to heal themselves for 4% of their total health when they critically hit with a melee or ranged attack. The healing effect cannot occur more than once every 6 sec.

Just slap this into some headpiece (maybe the Rep PVP helm) with the Darkmoon card (which is fairly cheap) and go clear out old instances for disenchanting mats.

Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Gloves = No Sockets.
Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Helm = The 1 Meta and 1 Yellow Socket.
Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Legguards = No Sockets.
Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Spaulders = 1 Red and 1 Yellow Socket.
Merciless Gladiator's Dragonhide Tunic = 2 Red and 1 Yellow Socket.
Sockets:
1 Meta
3 Yellow
3 Red
No Blue Sockets.. :-/

You can have a Cloak, Boots, neck, rings and one of the above items with Blue Sockets (4 of 5 is needed for the lovely setbonus :-)

Any USEFULL ideas?? (Other than roll a real tank, ALT+ F4, etc.)

Or is this set just best for PvP, and time to find other for Tanking?...

There are Meta Gem slots in Armor. I believe the proc will go off regardless what item you have the slot in as long as you fulfill the gem's requirements and have the gemmed item equipped. No idea of the proc rate, though

I didn't notice how often it proc'd, but it heals for about 50-70. I had a crit heal for 155.

Anyone know if stacking +healing would increase the amount healed by this? Not planning on doing it, just wondering.

I paid alot for it and seriously, it sucks, the heal is about 50 and goes off like once or twice per fight.
Its basicaly a 12def and 5stam Gem.

Really not worth it in my opinion. I socketed it in my Helm of the bold, and as a tank I should have bought a Felsteel helm (that doesn't have a meta socket) and use 3 Enduring Talasite on it.

Message to all those people who overload on stamina gems:-

Yes stamina will give you an insane HP, but you will be causing the healers to be out of mana before the boss fight has really begin.

Healer: I can't effing heal you ffs! I'm spamming Greater Heal and your health is still going down!

Tank: You nub, I have enough HP, heal me faster!

Basically, a Warrior's best friend is Defense skill. Chance to Block, Dodge, Parry and chance for mob to miss you aswell as crit reduction is worth a helluva lot more than overloading on Stamina. This is an awesome gem, and I'll definitely be getting one.

If all tanks on your server are using the 'All Stamina gems' approach, it doesn't necessarily mean it's the best way to go.

I aggre with the above post concerning stam gems. The +18 stam meta gem might look nice but +18 stam is +180 hp, which is what this gem will heal you for fairly often. So with this gem you get the best of both worlds.

The heal proc is ONLY replaced with the 5% stun resist effect you get from the 18 stamina gem. You gain 12 defense, and the ability to heal about 60 dmg, where as the other gem you just get 18 stam. Unless you are lacking stam, get this meta gem.

Stacking stamina isn't a bad thing as long as you maintain the minimum of 490 defense and respectable tanking stats (dodge/parry/BLOCK).

Sure, an avoidance tank (we'll call him AT)can dodge/parry/block a lot of attacks, but what will an AT do when he does in fact get hit? There are no definites in this game. Everything, despite stats is based on chance. Your AT will get hit. Your AT does have a chance of getting hit by crushing blows. Your AT can be hit by multiple crushing blows as well and when he does, be prepared for a walk back from the graveyard.

I'm not exaggerating. Take a look at the MT's in some of the greatest guilds - Death and Taxes, Nihlium, etc. All their MT's are Stamina tanks with good tanking stats. Look at their progression. End-game warriors need to be able to generate threat quickly and most importantly, they need to be able to take hits.

As a feral who tanks Kara and Gruuls i find this gem great for my own reason. As a feral druid in bear form u get leader of the pack which heals u for a cople of hundred HPs when u get a crit. combine this with the trinket u get in Zangamarsh that heals u based on dmg and then add this gem to it. You then have yourself some nice health regen. Then combine that with frenzied regen when your in a tight squeeze and you should be one hard tank to bring down. my stats are
14500 HPs
28000 armor self buffed
35% chance to crit
28% dodge
431 Defense

and as a feral druid there is no avoidance.... your gonna get it. but thats what your Armor is for and knowing that im not going to avoid as many attacks a a warrior i try to make it as easy as possible for my healers. i have no prob holding aggro in any of my runs so its nice like im sacrficing one thing for another. just thought id throw in my .02 cents

www.tankspot.com and read the section on effective life. Basically there are two schools of thought; avoidance tanking and stam stacking. Stam stacking is normally considered better for breaking content when your gear is not up to par yet. Avoidance makes it easier when you're on par.

Don't forget the other pain in the ass with avoidance tanking is getting missed/dodging/parrying 10 blows in a row which equals crap rage generation.

On a side note I am a mostly stam stacking tank and on our first gruul kill I was crushed for 18.5k and then parried the next 5 hits to finish off the last 20k for the kill :]

most people have the Defense needed so having more wont do much but help avoidence and block..
but compared to the stam one

id take 18 stam over 12 defense...

and restore health on hit....
raids your gonna be geting spamed heals regardless espicially MT's

100 extra restored health will make no difference

The reason you're loading up on Stamina is to smooth out variance from your "burst defense" stats (dodge/parry/block). A dodge tank will get destroyed after his luck runs out. I'm a partially Karazhan equipped tank with 13k HP, 15k AC and 57% dodge/block/parry avoidance. Most of your Kara gear is going to give you the avoidance you need, allowing you to stack +12 Stamina gems in prepping for HKM (where you absolutely need around 17-18k to avoid an Arcing Smash/crushing blow death sequence). Oh, and the gem itself; I prefer using this gem, and plan to still use it when I finally get my helm to drop. Even if it procs only twice a minute for 60, you've made up the value of the +18 Stamina in 1.5 minutes, and every boss fight is going to go longer than that. The added aggro is so small as to be irrelevant (if that little aggro was important to you, you have larger problems than what metagem to use), but the gem itself is my favourite.

Time to add my 2 cents here.

I see a lot of people putting down the Powerful in favor of the Tenacious. There are a lot of convincing arguments to do so, but I can offer one that may sway people to the Powerful one.

Some folks above mentioned having 12k health to be good for tanking Karazhan, at least the first half of it anyway. That's all fine and good. Now, let's say you get all your drops and your gear is starting to look pretty sweet. You've downed Curator and gotten your T4 gloves. Next week, your guild drops Prince in a heap. Great. During that fight, your healers probably went OOM unless they remembered to bring lots of Potions and there was a Shaman nearby with Mana Tide. Assuming you're over 500 defense with the drops you've been getting, you should be doing pretty good, right? Perhaps...perhaps not.

Stacking defense will only get you so far. Prince's phase 2 probably gave you and your healers a very hard time, leaving them on fumes for Phase 3. Why? Well, with full raid buffs, your health was ok and so was your avoidance. But your armor? Oh yeah...armor...what happened to that stat? Don't see that being discussed much here. As opposed to the 2500 damage normal strikes you were taking with your 13.5k armor (unbuffed), had you started stacking that earlier on, those would have turned into 2000 or less.

But you still got by, and next week you did the same. Awesome...now you're ready for Gruul, right? Wrong. You need at LEAST 16k armor, unbuffed, if you plan on taking Gruul's hits...especially if/when he is getting 10 Grows in on you. At that point, it will be imperative for a Pally to cast Lay On Hands...and you will most definitely have to be popping Armor Potions to help mitigate the big damage hits he will most certainly throw on you. Avoidance absolutely sucks here...and this is a big progression step for your guild. When Gruul goes down, that means Mag is next, and soon after, SSC. The absolute best way to progress as a Main Tank, is to worry about Stamina and Armor first and foremost...THEN defense/avoidance. I learned that the hard way, and now I have 512 defense, 16.6k health and 18k armor unbuffed...not to mention 66 hit rating and 36 expertise rating to boot...and my Shield Block Value is enough at this point to be able to say that the Eternal diamond won't matter much in that Meta slot...cuz putting out threat is more than just stat reliant...it's hugely skill/spec reliant. It's any Main Tank's bread and butter, and if they don't know how to output threat, then it may be time to start another toon.
