Wondering if anyone knows exactly how multi-colored jewels work with this. Say I socket a Yellow & Blue Jewel, and also have one Red jewel socketed. I know that multi-colored jewels can satisfy multiple needs, I'm wondering if they also work against the user. Thanks for any info.

FYI, any gem can be inserted in any socket. You just lose the socket bonus, which is crap most of the time anyway. So this metagem can work with Hallowed set without any problems.

Ok, this is how i see it. Hallowed has these slots:
blue: 3
Red: 2
Yell: 1

If hybrid counts as one for each collour, this is what you do:

2 Green (blue slot)
2 Orange
1 Red/yellow/orange
1purple (blue slot)

This will give you:

blue: 3
Red: 4
Yell: 4

Which satisfy the meta gem. Voila

my healing gear has lots of blue sockets and it would kill me to see all those sockets which could have 9 healing 4 spirit in them have a green gem with crap in it....

guess if i through luminescent noble topaz's in my primal mooncloth set in the yellow and blue sockets, i'ld lose the +3 int bonus, and gain +4 int from the gem, (+1 net int per item) and lose the 2 mana/5 and i wouldnt be taking a huge ding in my stats overall. really wish this was "more blue gems than anything else!"

I purchased this meta gem and with my current gear I only have 4 gems socketed. 2 red gems, 1 yellow gem and the meta. I currently have NO bonus. This particular meta is bugged. The only thing I can think of is the required colored gems MUST match their socket or it does not count toward the requirement. However, there is nothing stating this on Blizzard's official website or in the ingame instructions in the tool tips. 110g for NOTHING.

General rule of thumb for satisfying this gem requirement easily (and still keeping your socket bonuses):

Fill all of your blue sockets with "Royal" type gems (+Heal and mp5) (or other purple colored gems).

Fill all of your yellow sockets with "Luminous" type gems (+heal and int ). (or other orange).

Then count up all your blue sockets (sockets, not gems), then subtract the # of yellow sockets. The number you get, plus one, is how many red sockets you need to fill with Luminous type gems. You can put Royal gems in the rest of the red slots.

This way you can get as many heal/mp5 gems as possible, still keep all your socket bonuses, and satisfy this meta requirement.

If you have a ton of sockets (or a lot of blue/red slots) and not a lot of yellow sockets, then it might not be worth it to get this gem and lose all the mp5 you could be getting from gems.

You might want to get Insightful Earthstorm Diamond (12 int and mana proc), or Mystical Skyfire Diamond (chance for next cast to be half cast time ) instead because those gem requirements will be easier to meet.

Yea I just socketed this diamond but it's grayed out in my socket for my helm and the plus healing did not take effect. Any ideas as to what I should do?

I can confirm that you do not need a blue gem for this to work. I have the meta gem activated by only using a +18 healer in the helmet along with the meta, Luminous noble topaz in my neck, and one in my shoulder. I also have an epic red healing gem in my shoulders. So I was able to activate the gem based on having only 2 red and 2 yellow gems. A blue is definitely not required

This would be the greatest dps metagem only if it didn't have that weird gem combination. It is very difficult for a warrior or a rogue to get an item with a blue slot in it unless they use a crappy blue/purple gem. Just get -2% threat to cloak and for warriors, get the 24 ap gem.

This meta is obviously a reasonable choice for raiding paladin stacking +healing to downrank HL and FoL, filling 1 slot with 9heal4int/11heal4int/11heal5int orange and all remaining slots with +18/+22healing reds. This kind of pally doesnt required that much mp5 with the gems in addition to what is already available on t5/t6-level raiding stuff and this metagem can therefore be a viable choice for them.

To expand, the reason this change is so awesome is that, by and large, green and blue gems are a poor choice for a healer and are the only ones that would make it hard to fulfill this meta requirement. Using any combination of purple and yellow gems along with at least 1 of red or orange will fulfill this meta. And of course, as has been mentioned in above comments, there's no requirement to use any blue gems so if you don't use any purple gems, any combination of yellow red or orange (with at least 1 being red/orange) gems will activate this meta.

it recently (in patch 2.3) got stealth buffed to a 5% procc chance, basically giving 15 mana per cast.
cast a spell.....
..every 5 seconds -> 12 casts/minute -> 180 mana/minute -> 15mp5
..every 3 seconds -> 20 casts/minute -> 300 mana/minute -> 25mp5
..every 2 seconds -> 30 casts/minute -> 450 mana/minute -> 37.5mp5
..every 1.5 seconds -> 40 casts/minute -> 600 mana/minute -> 50mp5

looks far better than 26heal to me.

For a raiding perspective:

From my raid healing experience in SSC and TK as a resto Shammy, there are only 2 reasons why you will get aggro:
1) its either because there is a problem with the tank(s).
2) you're healing during an aggro dump phase, examples being Hydross or Leotheras in SSC, when you shouldn't be.

Both of those reasons are avoidable and 2% threat reduction is so incredibly small it seems a waste of a meta gem. Ultimately it comes down to your stats, but considering you can get +18 healing gems for normal sockets, this meta gem does seem fairly weak. Personally I use Insightful Earthstorm Diamond as the regen is good, and means other sockets can be more +healing focused instead of mana regen. However, like everything gem related it comes down to how best to balance your class, playstyle and gear (inc enchants).

Once you start doing BT/MH, you'll start valuing raw +heal more than mp5.
At least that's the case for me:
I'm a resto druid and while I always went for the Insightful Earthstorm Diamond before,
this meta gem seems more appealing to me now.

The threat reduction is an added perk.

Okay so the gem I normally use being a resto druid is the epic healing/spirit gem and the gem says that it fits a blue or a red socket... I have more of these gems than actually "red" gems so would I still technically meet the requirements?

so stick two 1 yellow, no blues and the rest +18 and shwing surely? gunn take awhile to find out me thinks :( i dont know anyone who makes then

This is a great PvE healing gem for priests and druids, to bad the requirments are rather annoying. The half cast gem is much easier to satisfy, but depends on your healing style whether you want to use it or not.

One little tidbit that is left off of alla's information, is that for this thing to work, it "Requires more Yellow gems than Blue gems, Requires more Red gems than Blue gems." Now, somebody please tell me why they did this, and then made the majority of slots in the Priest's Tier 4 blue.... makes you go "hmmmmm......"

I am confused as to when and on what items meta gems can be used. As a level 70 pally with 375 in alchemy i can make these, the materials are very expensive, so i have not attempted to socket one in my own equipment.
Is there armor that says to use meta gems?

It's not hard to have more red than blue, but having more yellow than blue will ruin your entire set of gear.

The only option is to put yellow/blue gems into almost every blue gem slot, to avoid tipping the balance too far to blue. And that's going to cost you a lot of useful stats, as pure blue or red/blue are almost always better for healers.

These are all yellows and very obtainable. The priest dungeon set has yellow slots in it. Tell me these suck for healing and how it will ruin your gear.

I don't get how i can use this metagem correctly tbh.
I have the Justicar Helm (and gloves) but it seems nothing really good can be gemmed for a paladin.
Any good idea to sort this out correctly people?
Which gear i might get on me to may be able to use this metagem on my Justicar Helm?

I got tier 4 hat with red and meta sockets, placed one epic gem with 11 healing and 4 spell crit in red socket and then i found that meta alreasy works, so i just put it in meta socket and got 2 mana 5 sec bonus.

I'm a holy priest - I just got the Hallowed Crown, which has one blue socket and one meta socket. This is the only piece of my gear that has any sockets available for gems. I have a red, blood garnet (+13 to healing) in the blue socket, and the Bracing Earthstorm Diamond in the Meta. Currently the meta's stat of +26 to healing and threat reduction of 2% is grayed out. Is it gray because none of my other pieces have sockets? and therefore I'm not meeting the "must have more yellow than blue" requirement of the meta? Can someone help me with this please?

For a priest this one is hard to fit. Most head gear with a meta also comes with a blue slot. A couple of tierdrop rubies with a socket mismatch makes better equipment than this gem suitably socketed.

A pity, as this gem takes quite some trouble to get.

They really need to switch this to more blue than red and yellow to make it effective. Regen is pretty much the most important stat for a healer at 70, virtually all my sockets are filled with the purple healing/mana5 (or spirit for priest) or green int/mana5.

Threat reduction is also pretty weird. The only times I've noticed healers pulling agro is when the tank isn't prot spec and is taking massive damage (poor mitigation gear). Even in those cases, I don't think -2% agro is enough to save the healer.

Personally, I like the Insightful Earthstorm Diamond or Swift Starfire Diamond (the bonus on Starfire applies to healing as well). Maybe even Destructive Skyfire Diamond if you're looking for extra crit. Haven't tried Mystical Skyfire Diamond but sounds like it could be interesting for healers, especially if you're using downranked 2.5/3 second heals.

This is a very nice healing meta gem.

You dont have very many meta gems at all in your gear. To give up a few gems that add quite a small quantity to your overall stats and specs for this gem is worth it in my opinion. A few mps spell crit or intellect here or there is worth it for a nice gem like this.

One other nice application for this gem is for DPS Warriors. They have no abilities to dump threat, so one geared enough to be doing worthwhile dmg will also be chasing the MT on the meters. Subtlety to cloak & this item are one of the precious few ways they have of keeping aggro off of them.

So would this work when Id have 5 gemslots and put in 2 red gems, 1 orange(red/yellow), 1 yellow gem and 1 blue? So do the coloured gems count for 1/2 of each color or how does it calculate? If so it would be 1 and 1/2 yellow, 2 red and 1 blue, which should work normally...

A two-colored gem(green, purple, orange) counts as 1 gem of each color in it(blue/yellow, blue/red, yellow/red).

How does this work with hybrid colored gems? I generally use purple and orange gems. Purified Shadow Pearls and Luminous Noble Topaz to be specific.

For a resto druid, I've done a bunch of math and research and have come up with a nice combo for my gear (PVP neck, D3 chest, PVP Bracers, Earthsoul leggings, Forestlord striders).

Switching from Headdress of the High Potentate to T4 helm I will have:
3 red sockets
3 yellow sockets
5 blue sockets.

With:
3x Teardrop Living Ruby (Red socketed)
3x Luminous Noble Topaz (Yellow socketed)
2x Purified Shadow Pearl (Blue socketed)
3x Dazzling Talasite (Blue socketed)

I will have in total : 6 red, 6 yellow and 5 blue from adding up primary gem colors. This means I have more red than blue, and more yellow than blue, giving me the +26 heal and -2% threat from meta.

Calculating the stat changes from my Headdress of the High Potentate and current gem sets to T4 helm and the gems stated above:

-9 stam
-3 int
+1 spi
+4 mp5
+15 heal

so I've made this gem work out in my set. And, if I were to replace D3 chest(priest's or druid's) with Stonebough Jerkin and still get the meta set bonus, I would need to socket the D3 with to keep the RY>B balance.
I'll still get more +heal, the only big difference is the -9 stam and 3 int I can deal without. /shrug

*I didn't link a lot of the stuff, it would have been a pain, sorry in advance. You can check my work if you want though and correct me if I'm wrong.

When I see a Socket I think like this as a healer:
Red +Healing
Yellow +Spell Crit
Blue +Stamina

And (counts as both for the Meta)
Orange: mix of Red / Yellow
Green: Mix of Blue and Yellow
Purple: Mix of Blue / Red

Good for casters in 2.3 :), reduced threat, and +9 spell damage :) yay. Probably going to get this for my arcane mage. Since I'm channeling my missiles most of the time, the half spell cast time isn't as useful.

I got really excited about this meta gem when t4 helm dropped for my priest (i had whitemend, so didn't really need t4, but i was the only class that could use). After finding out the requirements for this meta gem, its basically useless. Any decent endgame healer is basically going to stack 9heal 2mp5 royal nightseye (purple) and the occasional Dazzling Talasite to fill socket bonuses where needed (orange, 4 int, 2mp5). Even when blizz buffs (fixes) spirit for some healing classes by boosting 15% mana regen in casting to 30%, making purified shadow pearls (purple, 9 healing, 4 spirit) worthwhile again for druids/priests, getting this meta gem will still be impossible. A paladin might be able to barley pull this off with lots of Luminous noble topaz (orange, 9heal 4int), but any raid healer will tell you that mp5 is about the most valued stat.

Course, even though this meta gem is almost impossible to get, its not that useful. As was been mentioned earlier, +healing for any healer with mostly epics is going to be at least 1700, which is plenty through kara, so stacking more +healing after that isn't overly useful. When you're looking at 5+ minute boss fights in Kara, and much longer later down the road, mana regen is the only important thing. And 2% reduced threat should be irrelevant, apart from random screw ups on trash mobs, healers shouldn't ever pull agro in raids. If you are, your tank sucks pretty hardcore (I have never once pulled agro off my MT in kara on a boss, even when trying :P)

note: I havn't toyed with this gem overmuch, but from what i can tell there is no notification when it procs, which makes realizing its usefulness somewhat difficult, but its about the best you can expect. Again, this is a meta gem slot, so it should give a pretty decent buff, but you cant expect over-much when the standard stats are already high to begin with on most epic headpieces.

What's funny is, this gem actually isn't that bad for PvP. Hear me out! I know the 2% reduced threat is absolutely worthless, but +26 Healing is a very decent amount, and the only pure +Healing for Meta gems. For a Holy Pally, really the only other one I know of is +12 Spell Dmg/Healing with Minor Speed. Well, you can always enchant your boots for +9 Sta and Minor Speed instead of +12 Sta, so you're gaining +14 Healing at the cost of +12 Spell Dmg and +3 Sta.

If used in this way, it's pretty easy to fill the socket requirements. The orange +11 Healing +4 Spell Crit in Heroic Ramps is what I'm farming for to fill most of my arena gear, so meeting the gem requirements won't be hard.

Personally, I'm still going for the +12 Spell Dmg/Healing and Minor Speed, mainly because of play style preference. I find, even being a Holy Pally meaning not much DPS at all, if I use my Hammer of Justice, Conesecration, Holy Shock, and Judgment of Righteousness at the beginning of the match, I've helped lob off about 3k hp. I then go back to defense and pretty much heal the rest of the match. With the increased +Spell Dmg we'll get from our +Healing gear in Patch 2.3, I wouldn't be surprised if it now lobbed about 4k hp off. However, those who play conservatively from the start or are pure healbots may find this gem to be better, even in PvP. I just think it sucks that this is definitely more of a PvE gem but the gem requirements suit PvP gems better. That's weird.

The usage of this meta along with ALL of your Socket Bonusses is almoust impossible for Leather healing gear.
Ok lets say you have full T4 , right ? So that means you have 1 meta , 1 red , 1 yellow and 4 blue slots
And you want to use the Bracing Earthstorm Diamond meta gem right ? Which needs more red that BLUE . And more yellow than BLUE .
So you got +4 int socket bonuss on helm, +9 healing socket bonus on chest + 3 spirit bonus on shoulders ...
And the point of having the opportunity to use any socket bonus it to actualy USE it cuz the item is created to be beter with it. So i want to keep my socket bonuses and i want to use the meta socket.

Changed in 2.3.2 to only require more red gems than blue. Amazing change for healers, since if healers grab an item with a crappy socket bonus, the next step would be to stack +18 heal gems, which are red. Thanks Bliz.

The following is a possible configuration for a complete T4 resto shaman set, assuming that no other piece of equiptment has a gem. It is set up to take advantage of this meta gem.

Cyclone Shoulderpads (2 blue)
purple - Royal family
green - Dazzling family

Cyclone Headdress (1 blue, 1 meta)
green - Dazzling family
meta - Bracing Earthstone Diamond

Cyclone Hauberk (1 blue, 1 red, 1 yellow)
red - Kailee's Rose(JC only) or Teardrop family
orange - Iridescent Fire Opal or Luminous family
orange - Iridescent Fire Opal or Luminous family

Yes, the +4 int is lost. This is a very acceptable loss to get +26 healing and -2% threat, especially since a resto shaman should, at the very least, be running near 11K mana.

Additional equiptment should lean toward the yellow or red socket types since this build will fault if another blue, green, or purple gem is introduced without balancing it with the other colors.

Treads of the Life Path would make a good gemed addition to the t4 set since the gems can be balanced with minimal effort.

Had a strange thought - wouldn't this actually be a decent meta for a shadow priest (9 damage, equivalent to a Runed living Ruby, and 2% threat reduction, with no need to gimp any other gem slots, as you pretty much use all red gems anyway...)?

The MSD (considered the usual alternative) gives a half-cast once every 45 seconds or so, which is wasted if it procs on a MB or VT, only benefitting flay - so you get a half-cast flay every 90 seconds or so?

Has anyone done the math on this?
