After the potion nerf in 2.1, will using one of these (15 sec duration) wipe out your flask/elixir (2 hour/60 min duration)?

Or is it that only flasks/elixirs will be limited to 1 offense/ 1 defense?

If this pot can stack, then these will become a lot more useful and in-demand.

really expensive for 15 secs of some extra damage. If you're struggling through curator I guess this can help, but then again you'll need mana pots if you're struggling. Same goes for netherspite - it'll help when you take the beam but if you're struggling to the point where you need to spend that much gold/mats on that potion then you're probably going to wipe anyway as it's a "do it right" fight.
Any long fights and your cooldowns should be used for mana. And any straight DPS fight with no burst phases the effect is too small for the cost. Unless you're using every buff in the game (after nerf flask+food+wizard oil) this potion is far from a good idea.

I am not yet tested so take it only as a speculation but the tooltip says "Increases spell damage BY 120" and not "by UP TO", wich means you get the full 120 spellup regardless of what spell you using. I think it is a very nice pot anyway.

Lets say you hit for an average of 3000 dmg on a fireball.. 6300 crit. Over 15 seconds you get *at most* 5 casts (in reality it is 4, but I will round up), the chance that one of them crits because of the potion is 1 - (1 - .02) ^ 5 = 9.6%
6300 * .096 = 604 damage.
120 dmg * 5 casts = 600 damage.
Total = 1204 damage.

Compare that to a super mana potion:
Mana Potion = 2400 mana (average)
2400 / 465 = 5 fire balls * 3000 = 15,000 damage

Granted, if you do not need the mana this potion is good.

While Destro pots can give big numbers, generally it is better to drink a mana pot as a caster (all pots share the same 2 minute cooldown), since that will allow yourself to cast more.

Of course, if you don't have mana issues (shadow priest + Judgement of Wisdom), this is great.

I can add that for warlocks this is far more useful than mana pots, since i never use them even in raids. So if you have enough money/time you can stack these and sighnificantly burst your damage on hard fights.

Also small tip: these are great when you have to AoE if your a warlock. I honestly think the benefit from them is for just dps using your pot timer isn't worth the pricey cost of the herbs (remember your still losing money when you pick by not selling those herbs) but for AoE they can help a lot.

I see these potions largely as a luxury to all caster classes except warlocks.

Mages, Shadow Priests, etc. will likely be drinking mana potions most every cooldown, but as a destruction lock I have a virtually limitless mana pool. If you're a raiding warlock and not packing a bag of these on progression nights, you're limiting yourself. These are on the same cooldown as the Icon of the Silver Crescent, and if you pop them both at the same time they will stack. This leads to enormous corruption ticks and shadowbolt crits for the duration, and if you're on CoD duty and cast one during that time it will pack one hell of a punch.

You didn't really seem to understand the theory. :) Let me try and explain it again. The idea is to check if we can eliminate even having to do the hard math of seeing by how much one is better by seeing if they're even in the same ballpark, since what we really want to know is "is it better to chug super mana potions, or chug destruction potions". To do so, we can give the destruction potion side /ridiculous/ benefits (like calculating the benefit of it assuming you have a 100% crit rate, ruin, and are casting SB in the duration, which is a configuration that maximizes the return you could get from the destruction potion, but is obviously completely unrealistic), and see if it could /ever/ do better (assuming normal raiding gear) than super mana potion chugging with normal gear /without/ those unrealistic assumptions. Note that talent specs that affect /all/ shadow damage are meaningless to talk about as they affect them both the same, so you can skip making those arguments.

First, as shown, the super mana potion frees up approximately 2.25 seconds from skipping lifetap GCDs. And let's pick some spell to absorb that extra time - shadowbolt will do. That's 0.9 shadowbolts with bane. Could we do better? Sure, you could make all sorts of arguments about fitting in more beneficial dots into a rotation or covering for resists with high coefficient spells or whatever, but we don't care, as we're not attempting to maximize the super mana potion side of this, as we don't need to. We're making a very boring, run-of-the-mill baseline here.

Now on the destruction potion side, we make those incredibly unrealistic assumptions to show how much it could boost it by if you had impossible stats that would maximize it as much as possible.. and we come up with it giving us less benefit than our boring, run-of-the-mill baseline with super mana potions without those unrealistic assumptions.

The conclusion is that it's not worth doing the math to figure out /how much/ super mana potion chugging whups destruction potion chugging for warlocks, because we know that it /will/ whup it, and that's all that really matters.

If you're interested in the /how much/ for some reason, folks on the Elitist Jerks thread re warlock DPS optimization estimated that super mana potion chugging with normal raiding gear would come to about 30 DPS whereas destruction potion chugging would come to about 17 DPS (you can also use the popular warlock DPS spreadsheet to calculate the effect). Not exactly surprising how bad it gets beaten given what I already explained to you earlier. :) Here's a link to the thread:

But remember, it's pointless to analyze those in detail and try and poke holes in them, as we know from what I've explained here that no matter how much you try and adjust their math, chugging destruction potions will never, ever beat chugging super mana potions (assuming normal raiding gear and a long enough fight that the mana can be used), as even by maximizing the return given stats that are impossible to obtain it couldn't beat it.

Oh boy! Look at all the heated debate..... First things first, remember, its a game. The way you play may be very different from the way I play, and vice versa. I have a warlock, hybrid affliction/destruction. Why? Because I get _2_ intsant shadowbolt procs, and the Siphon Life just keeps my life full if I need to life tap. Pop one of these bad boys and get _2_ 4000 shadowbolt crits back to back, and your opposition is usually "WTF!" Look at alot of the other stuff in the game... the Hunters Eternium Scope... your gonna pay 500g for 1% more crit chance? If you have a 25% crit chance already, sure... people do all the time... Your setup is probably different then mine, and dont forget talent points. The game is so customizable when it comes to your gear and such, that you are always gonna have internet tough guys trying to prove to you that 0.9 shadowbolts make a winning difference, but if you get hit, you lose it! hahahahhahaha, so lets stop with the perfect senarios and more on general situations. Yes, this pot is very situational, but can be just as fun in pvp...

That being said, a Guildmate gave this to me because he didnt want to sell it. I linked it on trade, and amongst the "its junk, give it to me for free" I was offered 100g.... But I think im gonna roll an Alchemist to try it out...

Does the +damage from this consumable also count for +healing?

Healers are no doubt almost always far, far (and I mean far) better off using mana or rejuv pots, but in an infinite mana situation (last night we did the last half of Kara with a ele shaman, a shadow priest, and a boomkin and the healers tried but could not run out of mana ;) could this provide a short duration healing boost?

I doubt it as the actual name of the potion is "Destruction". Also, every item/ability that effects healing generally states that is does in the item description.

I'll test these out on my shaman if I can get a shadow priest in my group. I should be able to get 9 casts in 15 seconds with 1.5 second cast (bloodlusted, drums of war) lightning bolts and at a .83 coefficent it's roughly +100 damage per cast, +209 damage per crit... bringing a total of about 1436 more damage... Doesn't sound to amazing but it's worth seeing big numbers at least once.

As pointed out above it should be obvious that this potion has situational use, in fight longer than a couple of minutes it is advisable to drink mana potions instead, but these would be useful in a short and dps-intensive fight like Doom Lord Kazzak where you must do a large amount of damage in a very short time. Or for those times when your tank dies when the boss is at 5% and you are desperately trying to burn it down. I find it helpful to keep a few of these puppies around, but there isn't much reason to stock up on them as there is no fight where chugging them repeatedly would be helpful.

Boomkins can use these to great effect in the beginnings of fights.

While you're burning down your initial bar of mana before your first innervate you can pop one of these at an opportune time, and the pot cooldown will still be up when you need it in your rotation.

These are not a Mana Potion replacement, they shouldn't even be considered in that light.

These are instead for the DPS who have no mana issues. With the recent Int/Spirit changes and Mana gems 3x charges I'm hardly ever low on mana on my Mage. So, I use these potions instead. I can easily go through 30 of them in a night of raiding.

only as a boomkin your a utlity class, and youd be much better served to do your raid a favor and chug mana pots and give your innervate to someone who can use it to bring alot of pain(Arcane Mage) or a healer if they need it

Even if during the fight mana pots are more effective, this is better burst pot. Use this as you're hitting that last 10% of something, like Gruul where the longer you wait the stronger he gets, or at the end of Vexallus where he'll kill everyone if you wait another 15 seconds. You won't use this to sustain as a magic user. As a prot paladin, I can use this to start a fight, and mana pot if spiritual attunement isn't (which it usually doesn't) cutting it. It's a fight starter, and ender.

With mage 4 piece t6 and on fights like Brutallus, Felmyst for melee heavy guilds, and m'uru to speak for just Sunwell Plateau, these potions are required.

In t6 content and t6.5 content, your shadow priests should be pushing 1200-1400 dps, which for practically any class, should be more than enough mana to make Destruction Potions completely viable to chain chug.

So I dropped 400G last night to pick up this rec and gathered enough mats to make 20. However, I'm potion mastery and when I made the 20, it didn't proc once... I've never had that problem before. Does anyone know if I just had the worst luck possible last night or if for some reason, it doesn't work with this recipe.

The recipe is an extremely rare world drop. Farm the auction house if you want it.

As far as which is better in a boss fight, this or a mana potion...it depends. If it is likely to a be a quick fight where the challenge is to dps a boss down before the tank drops or is healing-heavy, destruction pots are the way to go (think Maiden). If it is a mana-intensive fight where the dps is going to be casting the entire time, use your mana pots (think Curator).

What would make this potion actually be worth it is the lack of the wording "up to" ... from what I understand, the values, esp the 120 damage, is a static increase - anyone done any testing in this regard?

Fireballs coefficient is 100% (3.5 sec cast=100%) if anyone is curious. Check out www.wowwiki.com for an incredibly helpful article on damage coefficients.
