This weapon is made ONLY from a Swordsmith, but a warlock friend of mine says it was well worth the materials it took to make this beauty of an item. But also before you get this item made, seriously think about how long you plan to use this item. With BC coming out in about a month, it will most likely get replaced fairly quickly. But if you truely wish to get this fine weapon, dont let people stop you.

I have had a Sageblade since the month they came out. It is a great weapon for a non-raiding caster who wants to use a weapon + offhand combination.

I would say it is very comparable to the Elemental Attuned Blade, which usually costs more and is a rare drop.

I would not recommend this to anyone who likes to PvP since the 2.0.1 patch came out. The High Warlord's Spellblade is a better investment of time if you can handle the repetitive PvP.

Just wondering anyone with sageblade know why it can only see the sword when i press "Z". like all weapons you can see it on the character but for me the sageblade is only visable if i press Z or attack a mob or player. Thought it was wierd, anyone have same problem.

FYI It is a great dissapointment that this sexy blade does not show when sheathed. Every other weapon I've seen is shown when you are not wielding it. This blade however is non-existant. The graphic shows you pulling it off of your back but when you put it back, it disappears. I put in a ticket with Blizz about this and they said working as intended. So you get to walk around looking like an idiot with no weapon equipped and the 800g you spent for the blade + enchant go unnoticed unless you run around and continuously push the key to wield the sword.

Mageblade - similar stats. 40 +dmg +1% crit roughly 50 effective +dmg.

This- 20+dmg and +2.5% damage (assuming resistance of > 10), base damage of say 900 (fireball), this is about +42 damage. Making it +8 effective damage short of a mageblade. This is being overly generous because not all mobs will have a base resistance to your spells. But for a fire mage in MC, this is pretty comparable.

Does it reduce spell resistances for everyone hitting it, or just you? B/c that bonus wouldn't help pallies at all if it were just for the wielder, as there is no holy resistance to begin with. Of course, if it were for everyone, that could be a nice bonus on raids, as all you casters have an easier time of hitting your boss with any type of spell. Anyone know? Cause i'm getting one if it does. thanks all

About the sageblade bug. According to Blizz they are aware of the problem and vill fix it asap. That answer did i got today. They must have been aware of this much earlier so its strange that it have taken so long for them to fix it.

I would like to adress the issue of this not being a paladin weapon.

First off, if your holy, and spelldamage spec'd, this is a fairly decent weapon.

If you are a paladin that uses SoR over SoC, this is an awesome weapon. 1.8 speed is damn fast for SoR and will benifit it more. +20 spelldamage is also very nice.

Now, granted, if you are able to raid, and gan gain access to MC or ONY... There are lots of weapons better. TO name a few Aurastone Hammer and Azuresong Mageblade.

But if you are a non raider and can muster the mats, this is the BEST spelldamage 1-h you can find. And i recomend tossing on Fiery Weapon over +30 spelldamage. Truse me, it will gain you more dps in the long run. DOnt beleave me, check out my post in the paladin Seal of Righteousness thread on thottbot.

ALso im not sure, but -10 resist may effect a Fiery Weapon proc or not.. But it dose NOT effect our holy damage, as holy canot have a built player resist and most mobs dont have holy resist. (No mob should, but i notice my SoR, which is fixed damage, hit for less on some mobs... Bug or NPC holy resist..? idk)

Oh, btw, would you rather see a paladin use this over a damn arcanite reaper..? The mats are about equaly hard to get and equaly priced... Do you want your paladin wasting it on a 2-h axe for PvP and solo only..? Or a weapon that can carry them up to and even threw ZG, MC, ONY and even BWL!

The Sageblade is slightly better, but for a caster it is very, very marginal compared to the difference in price. If you should buy materials for Sageblade it would cost around 600-700g - While the materials for the Last Resort can be aquired for around 200g (on my server) That leaves plenty of gold for the +30 spell enchant :-)

This weapon is very pvp mage, warlock. Here's why spell pen is mostly a pvp thing and since it's 59 it's pretty high lvl twink (cut off for most battlegrounds except av which is 60). I see alot of twinks using this weapon

I believe there is a flat resistance to holy damage for mobs and players alike... my question is, does "Equip: Decreases the magical resistances of your spell targets by 10." reduce that flat resistance even further? If so... MAN is this good for paladins with high spell damage! Can anyone confirm?

VERSUS Sageblade.

Sageblade "better things": +14 Stamina (14 more than EAB*), Decreased enemy resistances (10 decreased more than EAB), faster (maybe good for paladin)

EAB* "better things": +32 Spell/healing (+12 more than Sageblade), 3 per 5 sec mana regen (3 more than Sageblade), higher damage (maybe good for paladin)

I suggest wearing Sageblade for PVPers and EAB for PVErs. The staminabonus is great, but its nearly only PVP/AOE (which is PVE :I). In long bossfights EAB regens nicely mana, it is good for priests for the high dmg/heal.

A weapon that is rather easy to get and beats the hell out of both of these, is Highwarlords Spellblade. It is better for both pvp and pve. I suggest you get that and not this. Good choice, good weapon. HWL Spellblade* is the best until Naxxramas I believe, Wraith Blade. And the best of all is that also shamans can wear the Spellblade :)

Materials for Sageblade:
12x Arcanite Bar, 2x Nexus Crystal, 2x Flask of Supreme Power, 4x Enchanted Leather

GL Farming honor. And if you are twinking a lvl 59, I'd say go for Sageblade!

Would this be good for a crit. build mage? I read the forum on crit build mages and I don't recall seeing this on the list of weapons.

Obviously it does boost spell damage by a significant ammount and gives the target less of a chance to resist... Anyone know if this would be good for a crit build mage?

It would be easier to do one of these three things than it would be to gather the mats for this thing.

1) Join a raiding guild and get an Azuresong Mageblade or Bloodcaller.
2) Pay a raiding guild gold to take you on a run when you can for a Mageblade/Bloodcaller.
3) Do Arathi Basin until you can get the dagger/staff.

Reasoning behind this?

If you have time to raid, join a raiding guild and get a sword thats about 3x as good as this. And then also get some epic armor.

If you don't have time to commit to a raiding guild, attend raids when you can until a mageblade/bloodcaller drops by paying a raiding guild gold for it.

If you don't want to raid, period, then PvP in AB till exaulted.

Time/Money wise, this blade requires TWO Flasks of Supreme Power and TWELVE Arcanite Bars and TWO Nexus Crystals and FOUR Enchanted Leather...that is ALOT of time and gold. It would cost you less gold to pay a guild to bring you along. It would be free to join a guild and eventually earn the DKP for a mageblade. And it would be extremely cheap, if time consuming, to do AB for the dagger/staff.

To each his own, but in this mage's opinion, this sword is NOT worth the mats.

the problem with everyone saying that this is a crap sword is that they're narrow-minded. just because it's purple doesnt mean it's raid stuff. for a non-raider this is the best that available. comparing it to Bloodcaller or Azuresong is ridiculous.

Actually this is useless for even someone who are just starting raiding since you can get Fang of Venoxis from High Priest Venoxis or Bloodcaller from Hakkar in ZG or if you are doing MC you can get Azuresong Mageblade from Golemagg.

If you are a lucky one you may also get or buy Elemental Attuned Blade.

You can also get The Lost Kris of Zedd as a random drop from AQ20 if you are lucky. It's not BoP so you can also buy it from AH.

One option is to farm PvP rank (or just honor+tokens in december when the patch, which will change the whole PvP and honor system, come out) and then to buy Grand Marshal's Mageblade. You can also get your reputation to exalted with The League of Arathor and then buy Sageclaw

And that was only swords and daggers, there's also plenty of staffs that you can get, such like Staff of Dominance or Jin'do's Judgement or you can get a staff with PvP rank (or with reputation+tokens in the future) or reputation as well.

So basically I can't see any point to craft this sword if you are raiding at all. If you are not raiding at all you can still get a PvP rank (and if you are not raiding I guess there's not much to do in the game but PvP) and PvP or/and reputation weapons.

I weighed commisioning this against burning DKP for either a Mageblade or Staff of Dom. With an nice off-hand - and everyone with any sense and a free hand carries an off-hand - like Ancient Cornerstone Grimnoire this sword is excellent for DoT casters such as Warlocks. After I repeatedly watched "resisted" waft up from my DoTs against high-level instance mobs I went in search of some way to suppress resistance. To date this sword is the only weapon I have found. "But its got no crit numbers" you say? Crits? I'm a Demonologist. The crits I get excited about (3830 on a Shadow weak mob) are numbers our Mages yawn at because they see them on a standard cast. And when an elemental in MC resists a banish and goes ripping through the cloth like a buzzsaw on crack you should hear the screams of "Banish! BANISH!" Whaaaaa? Me? Like I'm not jamming the "Banish" key through my keyboard trying to get off that next cast? The Materials? I had a third of them in the bank and tossed the rest together in a little over a week of gathering and greed runs in SM to finance what I could not gather. My wonderful guildies donated several transmutes to help me shave some costs and speed things up at the same time. Ditto a couple of potions made in already cleared instance Alchemy labs. Does Mageblade rock? You bet. But you can run MC for quite a while and not see it. Then when you finally do you have to burn off DKP you could use for Set Pieces to get it. No thank you. This does exactly what I want it to do and its got to be the easiest epic caster sword to get for a level 60 willing to put in some time. In short, for my situation its a safe bet for time spent. We have a sister guild with a talented swordsmith that will construct this for us for mats and a small crafting fee. Once I have that done I'm only one spell power enchant away from bliss. (But I'm always looking for more resist suppression gear so please chime in if you know of more and thanks).

There are alot of lvl 59+ toons running around out there who arent fortunate to have a large raiding guild.. this is the best weapon they can get without raiding.. The -10 to resistances is awesome for PVP and well worth sacrificing 10-20 spell power.. Only 1 person has this pattern on Skywall :). more gold for me i guess...

I think the exalted reward dagger from AB is better, though it doesn't have the -spell resistance. It is a lot cheaper too, though more time consuming. And for lowered spell resists, just get the trinket from WSG and/or the caster ring from AV. However if you've got the gold but not the time, it's definately worthwhile.

Does the Sageblade's special ability of lowering the target's resistances work like a debuff, thus allowing the whole raid to take advantage of the lessened resistances, or is it supposed to mean that only your spells can breach enemy resistances more easily?
Also if the first is true, would the effects of two Sageblades in the raid stack with each other giving a total of a 20 decrease in resistances?

Good for binary spell casters like ice mages where the magical resistance of the target is calculated in chance to hit. In my opinion, it is a nice blade and coupled with the scepter of interminable focus (1 hit, 1 crit, 9 dmg) a great item for raiding.

Mats are the biggest disappointment here (arcane crystals still expensive, nexus not so much) and with some guilds phasing out MC it might be hard to find a good 1h weapon. But if you are moving through BWL/Naxx there are much better replacements (Claw of Chromaggus, Wraith blade).

In conclusion, it depends on how you and your guild are progressing. If you are doing MC, BWL, or Naxx, I'd say pass on making this item because you will find better soon enough. If you are just starting out or are not apart of a raiding guild, this maybe your only option for a decent dps boost.

In reference to the early post about wasting dkp on the azuresong, losing out on set pieces- you can do better dmg with blues if you build yourself right i.e. find some +hit gear so you don't have so many resists. I recommend the Bloodvine pieces if you are a 300 tailor.

The Elemental Attuned Blade has the same Int and less Stam (-14) compared to the Sageblade, it also restores 3 mana per second.
The Azuresong Mageblade has more Int (+8) and less Stam (-7) compared to the Sageblade, 1% spellcrit and it also has double the spellpower.
What makes the Sageblade so good compared to the above weapons is the rare effect <Equip: Decreases the magical resistances of your spell targets by 10.> which usually boils down to a 2.5% flat dps increase.
It will also result in less spell resists during AoE farming and in PvP.

This is without a doubt THE weapon around that item level for your level 59 twinks, people with a decent amount of gold, AoE farmers, PvPers and solo players/non-raiders.

The Plans: Sageblade is super rare with only one report of a drop from Taerar (5%) at the time of writing this (08/08/2020).

What can I say.. I’m a happy mage :}

Incredibly expensive to craft, especially considering it only gives +20 Spellpower, and spell penetration isn't necessary in PvE content. Given the rarity of the pattern, it will likely be marked up.

On most realms it would be cheaper to buy The Lost Kris of Zedd, which is effectively a better weapon for Mages and Warlocks.

Bought this Recipe off the auction house for 900g. A steal considering how much ive been able to make off selling these puppies. As a swordsmith there really isnt anything better than this sword if you are looking to make and sell swords. The mats required are inexpensive compared to Thorium Brotherhood weapons. These plans are also extremely rare and very few Swordsmiths will get their hands on this plan. Due to the rarity of Swordsmiths in general, and the rarity of these plans, the sword itself has a very high resale price. I spend around 1500-1700g making it myself, then i sell it for 2499, and they sell often too. Thats up to 1000g profit depending on the auction house prices. I have made well over 5000g selling this sword and i am very glad i spent all my money buying this recipe because it has been well worth it.

So it is infact worth it to make/sell the Sageblade
