Floating wreckage is awesome.
Multiple random drops when you open. There are two keys to maximizing the outcome:
1> raise your fishing level, i.e., use the best bait you can acquire it will pay for itself
2> when you cast, if it doesn't hit within the swirling circle of floating wreckage or oily blackmouth, right-click to retrieve and recast. I ususally get at least two chests from wreckage, always only one from fish schools. The boxes I've gotten almost always contain a green item, and 3-6 items total including potions and materials. As a Lock, this is free mats when I disenchant green items. Who doesn't like free stuff?

I got a book that became soulbound to me from one of these where i learned the skill find fish wich lets you see gatherings of fish and such on the minimap

this is fished out of lots of places, as listed above. got it in an oil spill in stone talon mountains, as well as a floating wreckage in stonetalon and caught this in hillsbrad foothills too one time. (i have fishingbuddy, which keeps track of everything i catch and where)

opened the 3 i got in stonetalon up, loot as follows:

box 1:

Well, it looks like there IS some kind of trunk with kind of valuable things inside... :P! JUst a question... What are linen bolts, wool bolts and other quind of bolts used for? tailoring I supose? :(

Fished a few from Hillsbrad.. The small pond right next to Tarren Mill.. One of these boxes contained a . Later when I went to Orgrimmar, I put it in to AH for 85g bid 89g Buyout. It was instantly bought with buyout.

Now I am even more rich than I used to be: total amount of cash at the moment is 5914 gold. Gathering thousands of golds isnt too hard, the places of farming must be known. Have faith. Fish. Good luck!

Obviously you can get these from the Floating Debris/Wreckage, but I usually get one of these from every other school of fish (Oily Blackmouth and Firefin Snapper mostly) I go after, as well.
They almost always contain cloth, wool, or leather of some kind and/or some coin, and/or an item (sometimes 1-3 potions, sometimes a magic item).

As of this writing, the best thing I've gotten is a (green item) Sequoia Branch of Strength (lvl 35 2-H hammer, 28.9 dps, +11 Strength) when I was lvl 34 (I had to wait to equip it obviously) and which I still use when soloing (it's slow but powerful).

If you go to the bottom of hillsbrad. You will come across a coast inhabited with Murlocs and Nagas. There are firefin snapper and Oily blackmouth schools as well as a couple whreckages
