The name "Bastard Sword" comes from the fact that it is halfway between a one-hander and a two-hander. In standard swordmaking, it is smaller than a normal two-hander but larger than the average one-hander, and thus the wielder generally wields it one way or the other based on his own comfort level. "Bastard" implies that it is the offspring of these two types of sword. Obviously, in Warcraft case, everyone wields them as two-handers. Interestingly enough, in the Baldur's Gate series of PC RPG games, it is the opposite, wherein they are one-handed swords.

That's a good question, I looked, and I think they all need training to be able to use two-handed-swords.

yes you need to train to Use 2H swords.
This sword is like the basic form of almost every other bastard sword to follow.
