The Revantusk trolls seem to be allied with Zul'jin, which makes one question why they are also allied with the Horde and thus Blood Elves.

They have no ties to Zul'jin
From
Cannabilistic Cousins
:
The Vilebranch - aptly named - are a depraved lot; feeding on other trolls and humanoids.
If Zul'jin were here, he would have destroyed the whole lot of them with a flick of his wrist - alas, Zul'jin has not yet returned and we are left to our own devices.
They certainly do have ties.

My question is what happened to his arm? I saw some picture of his model, and he's only got one arm... I don't remember that from Warcraft 2. Something not go well for him in the final battle, maybe?

However, recently, Zul'jin has been located, leading the Amani forest trolls in their seemingly eternal war against the Elves of Quel'Thalas. He resides deep inside Zul'Aman.

My account isn't active right now to go look, but when I was leveling up my troll Shaman I always heard Vol'jin. Besides the character plays as Darkspear trolls and the leader of the Darkspear trolls is named Vol'jin. I'm looking for a recording of it to make sure.
You heard wrong. They do, and always have, cried "For Zul'jin" - the reason for this is because Zul'jin is universally held to be a hero by all the troll races.

I double checked this myself -- there is no way to possibly construe the /charge as "For Vol'jin."

The way I see it is that even though Zul'jin left the old Horde after the 2nd war, he really never had a problem with Thrall's new Horde. True, the Amani forest trolls were never really great friends of the Jungle/Darkspear trolls, but there was no reason to directly oppose them either.
But now that the Blood/High elves have joined up, it gives Zul'jin reason to oppose the Horde. He's basically dedicated his life to killing elves. So...I guess that's enough reason to kill him. That, and all of a sudden Blizzard doesn't like having raid bosses that aren't big lore names. (What the hell ever happened to creating new characters, I have no idea.)
As for the troll /cheer, I think that was just thrown in a long time ago without any thought given to lore.

Ah, good! Well, for Zul'Jin!
