I don't get it, I don't know the band and I don't know the implications behind the removal of the video, but if the owner of the copyright says they don't want it on youtube, doesn't youtube have an obligation to remove it?

By embedding that video on their site, I'm assuming they didn't want it taken down. Youtube assumed otherwise.
Youtube: Where you don't get to keep your video up even if you DO own the rights to it.

I have to say otherwise. Even if the video featured the band, the copyright is fully or partially WMG's.
That means they have the final word on if the video stays or goes, not the band. In the screenshot, you can see it was claimed by them, not the band.

This. I was actually on my way here to post this very same statement.
The band is entitled by WMG to distribute their music through website downloads, perhaps. That doesn't mean that the band is entitled to do anything they like online - WMG will act to protect its revenues too, if it's making royalty money from music videos and physical album sales. If the band produces its own CDs while it's still under contract with WMG, then they can be sued as well.
Sounds silly and overboard, but that's what happens
when you sell a record label your songs
. Funny that, they're not yours anymore.

I honestly don't care about what YouTube does to Disturbed, but I think that when YouTube has
removed it's own guide on how to make HQ videos, it's going a bit far.

I doubt some
youtube
judge sitting in a room brought down the gavel on these particular videos. They probably had some red flags go up for some reason, and some
tech
living in west india flipped a switch on his
computer
, and the video got banned.
Just my take...

I don't think they make their own videos. Knowing them, that section of the site is probably designed to search through YouTube for "how to make HD videos" or something, and ran across a video that had been removed, which happens. You'd think that they'd be smart enough to remove those ones from the search engine though, but it's free advertising for them every time you visit a removed video.
