Or at least I am. Don't know how many other people feel the same way, but it really bugs me when my warrior's looking all pimped out... except for that bright green cape or a funny-looking helmet. I hate having a collection of random stuff that
looks
like a collection of random stuff.
So when I hit the brick wall of Lvl60 (finally upgraded to Burning Crusade today after getting halted a couple weeks ago), I went into the auction house intent on looking for some gear that might
look
like a nice gear set, even if though it's really just all greens. And I found an entire set of
Darkcrest
armor that looked awesome, though it didn't hurt that it came with excellent Agility (+106 overall) and Stamina (+161) buffs, as well as some for Strength (+42) and even some Frost Resistance (+38), though it's unreliable at my level. There was another set, that of
Bloodscale
which actually had some better stats.... but it's
pink
for cryin' out loud. My warrior will
not
be wearing pink.
Anyone purchased or avoided an item in the Auction House based on "form over function"?

All the freakin' time. In fact, that's why I rolled a priest: Because all the priest-only gear is gorgeous.
Dress on a male toon makes me annoyed, that's why I've never rolled a caster.
But yes, I collect RP gear with cool looks, but when I instance or raid, I always resort to using gear with the best stats

Back before the Dressing Room was implemented, when I was leveling Miyari, I was notorious for purchasing green upgrades from the AH only to find out that I didn't like how it'd look on my character. I would immediately vendor it; I don't even want to think of how much gold I lost that way.

Like Miyari, I often threw away items that were upgrades while leveling because how it looked - dressing room truly was a boon for people like us. I'm also known on my server for carrying insane amounts of gear just because, for example I keep around 7 weapons in my inventory at all times. Tanking, dps, healing weapons and a couple just for looks, among others
Finkle's Lava Dredger
. Rooaar.
And... the fantastic possibilities of
Terestian's Strangelstaff
outside of combat means it never leaves my inventory. ;)

All of my bank alts have tuxedos, plus two of my 70 chars. Have a couple of the festive clothes from this year but since I'm horde, I have those horrible green colour versions.

When WoW first came out my husband always said everyone looked like a big bag of Skittles.

This is one area where EQ2 beats WoW IMO.
As well as the armor looks, there is an 'appearance' tab on the paper doll. Any armour/clothes you drop in there is what shows on your toon (overriding the actual armour looks) , though you don't get ANY of the stat benefits.
Basically you can wear uber statted items, that make you look like a clown, then put matching stuff in the appearance tab so that you can have a nice look.
