Who's not to say the sun is the physical embodiment in our realm of the holy light? Who's not to say the Light which is worshiped by the paladins of the Alliance isn't the sun, just not recognised as the sun?The first option you present would be fine, but they have yet to explain that if that is the case. We'll see.
The latter would be... weird, and sort of arbitrary. Though if it were the case, then I don't know why you're singling out "Alliance paladins," as Blood Elf paladins aren't sun-worshippers either (the sun is just a potent symbol in their culture, they don't literally worship it).
the sun gives us light thus the light closest physical embodiment of the light is the sunThe Holy Light is not the same as "any light-emitting object in the Warcraft universe."
According to that logic you might as well say "green fel fire is a physical embodiment of light, obviously fel magic = holy light"
Going back to the first option necrobat presented, if sun worship gives Tauren paladin powers, without them being trained by any existing paladins, then the sun itself would have to be made of the Holy Light. It can't just be a regular old sun and somehow they get paladin abilities from offering worship to it.

This discussion caught my interest for some strange reason.
So let me get this straight: you're questioning why the soul of a Tauren would ever feel a connection to the Light and feel that only the races that currently have been worshiping/abusing Light should stay as the only ones allowed to draw strength from it? Humans/dwarves/squidfaced spacecows were among the first but Tauren and the rest aren't stupid. They, after all, aren't exactly simple beasts. I for one would like to pass down judgement as a Tauren, who knows - the Tauren's (renewed) belief in the Sun could unlock parts of their inner fire that would allow them to deal in paladin-ish ways.
Okay, too much priest lingo...

Reason i single them out is because they were the only ones originally worshiping the Light. Remember the BEs drained a being of light and controlled it forcefully originally, the Alliance paladins have always been devout.

So let me get this straight: you're questioning why the soul of a Tauren would ever feel a connection to the Light and feel that only the races that currently have been worshiping/abusing Light should stay as the only ones allowed to draw strength from it? I never said anything remotely like that.
Reason i single them out is because they were the only ones originally worshiping the Light. Remember the BEs drained a being of light and controlled it forcefully originally, the Alliance paladins have always been devout. It turned out that the Naaru was giving it to them willingly, but either way it doesn't matter. Either way, they were drawing on the Light, through an emissary of the Light, one way or another. What they were
not
doing was offering worship to a random celestial body that may or may not have anything to do with the Holy Light at all.
I think that it is a matter of game mechanics that Tauren will become Paladins and Priests. They will, apparently, start to worship the sun along with the moon. So, there will be tauren who believe strongly in the sun (as opposed to the druids who worship the moon), and fight and heal with its powers. And because Blizzard can't invent a new class just for the Tauren, they become Paladins and Priests. That's how I think it will be.That is precisely what I am complaining about (i.e. it's precisely what I think they should not be doing.)
What they should be doing is making it fit into the lore properly. There are numerous ways to make Tauren able to become paladins that will not break paladin lore at all; mere sun worship isn't one of them (again, unless the sun happens to be some kind of manifestation of the Light--not "lowercase-L-light" but the Holy Light--in some way).
