At first glance I thought it would be pretty epic, but then my senses came to me and I remembered when I tried Vanguard after it came out... I thought WC was bugged...
I know this one has been going in Korea for some time, and it's getting great press, but I still have my reservations. As of now, it will be option 1 for me. Until I get some feedback from a friend of mine,(who for some ungodly reason, always buys the newest MMO and tries it out)I won't be playing it.

I just watched a video of the classes and their spells. The first thought that crossed my mind was "
Whoa, this is just as flashy and shiny as all of the other Asian games I've played.
" Now, don't get me wrong - there is charm to that. There is a certain charm in the ranger/hunter whose arrows are accompanied by at least 4 different shining special effects. I just think that's more charming to the average 10-14 years old player than to the one that's in his or her 20s.
It might be that WoW has become my definition and standard for MMORPG. It may be that my undying love for Blizzard clouds my judgement. Or it might be that I have slight prejudice against modern Asian games. There is a minor chance that some subconscious lack of understanding of the Eastern cultures makes me unable to see enough good points in Aion.
TL;DR - No. WoW, a mere game or not, has me completely (in the gaming world that is).

What in god's name does enjoying spell effects have to do with one's age?
The game will either be fun for you or it won't. It doesn't do anyone any good to generalize on what age group/nation/culture will tend to enjoy it most.
If you're that hesitant, wait for a trial to come out and be your own judge.

Have you ever sat at table with kids around five, when they're just sitting there waiting for everyone else to finish?
It seems quite obvious to me that age plays a major role in what we find amusing or interesting. I have to be really tired to find any amusement in continually kicking the table, e.g.

I am sorry, words betrayed me and you didn't quite get what I meant. My fault probably.
I feel that there are roughly two (maybe three) types of gamers - those who enjoy the somewhat intellectual and sophisticated side of the game (in WoW terms: Lore), and those who enjoy the game for the more... I don't want to sound dismissive here, but more "emotional" side. In other words, it is hard to love both the behind-the-scenes design and implications of the game just as much as you love the actual ingame gameplay mechanics. Here is a question to help you decide which side you are more inclined towards: if you have ever been in Ulduar, you would know that there are mages of Kirin Tor teleporting in and out of the Expedition Camp, located just at the beginning. What are they doing between the teleports?
Now, back to your question. I find it rare that a young child enjoys the what I called "sophisticated" side of the game (again, I am not trying to offensive here!). What the younger generation of players tends to see is the visual entertainment. Good story is good story, but if the game is 8-bit, you'll hardly have a kid play it. Well, Aion looks like a game that's focusing too much on the visual aspect of the entertainment, and not enough on the story/realistic/behind-the-scenes details.
Just my opinion.

Just what we need. Another Korean Grind-Fest.
In the end, it's just another MMO with flashy graphics. How many times have you seen an MMO with nice graphics, but the exact same gameplay? Guild Wars is a good example. WoW brings what so many other MMO's don't see. They think people want to completely role-play, and just want to get from here to there, and finish a quest. What makes WoW fun is the bad graphics. I remember before starting thinking "Eew, these look so old." Now, I've played it non-stop for almost 4 years. It gives it a casual cartoony look to it, making you remember that you're having fun. Not only that, but what separates it from Point-A-To-B gameplay is stuff such as the Auction House, Achievements, Full-person raids, lore, and basttlegrounds.
Sure Aion has 80 vs. 80 Battlegrounds.
Too bad WoW doesn't have those.

That's really very true. Illustrative of this point, I started a new character a few days ago and ended up bumping into a starting paladin in our area. We got to talking and I knew pretty quickly the person I was dealing with was somewhat young as referenced by the I33t and the incomplete sentences and thoughts. I like kids, I own one myself so I dumbed down some of my usual sly quippiness but I did make some joke about his powers at one point. He was confused and I replied slowly that didn't he realise that paladins got their powers from God, that all the light effects were holy and came from the purity of their faith?
He replied after a moment that he didn't care about his class, only that paladins leveled faster than warriors. I was astounded and then amused and told myself internally to REALLY dumb down the quippiness.
Now, the child that I do own has already told me he is going to let his account lapse in September because he and his friend are switching to Aion. I'd looked at it ages ago, realised it pretty much looked and acted like any other MMO of the type and promptly lost interest. Now I may peek over his shoulder just to see if there's anything there beyond the whiz-bang, but I don't expect to be that impressed. I'm certainly not lapsing my account for it.
