I wonder the same. When I read someone asking something clever, people reply him with "whoa true you are right!" and such, but then he get his question minus rated, as if he should have known the answer and just said it straight out to get +rep - I think that some comments not necessary answers should be at the same level as answers. Thats my opinion.

It depends. Usually the answer contains the useful information, you often don't need to read the question, and so people tend to downrate it as superfluous, I guess. Anything that's not useful information tends to get minus ratings.
But if it's a legit question to which the answer isn't obvious, I tend to uprate both question and answer - say someone asks, "does Power Word: Shield absorb before or after damage reduction from armour?" that's a good question, because the game doesn't tell you.

With the recent implementation of the forums, I hope that most people will post their questions here rather than on item/quest pages. We are, after all, here to help! :) Typically, I've noticed that most questions and their answers are uprated if they provide valuable information or answer a commonly-asked question.

Just a reminder, reputation is in
no way
an "official" representation of your contributions to Wowhead, it's just a simple widget. People shouldn't get worried about it - if it's too much of a hassle and users don't want it on the website, we can still modify it / remove it.
Though that belongs to the Site Feedback forums :)

I don't minus rate all questions, but tend to minus information that's available within wowhead like "where does this drop?"
It could simply be that people come here for information to answer their own questions - not more questions.

If someone asks "How fast is this mount?" and someone answers with "This mount is a 100% speed boost.", doesn't that make the initial question kind of redundant? The question has now been answered perfectly and anyone wondering the same thing will see the comment and know how fast it is. Do we really need the question still in the comments? Instead of keeping it clean?

Agreed. And for many items that got changed in a patch or WoWhead has later filled in the information I also downrate. The comment was indeed useful in its day, but now it has become redundent. Don't need a comment saying "New stats in 2.1 are X, Y, and Z" when its right on the item and we're past 2.1.

I got minus rated awhile back real hard when I tried to provide some information for potions of intellect. You can multiply the bonus of the intellect by fifth teen to determine how much mana it provides. It wasn't even up for more than four hours before bombs were rained all over it.

This is precisely why I downrate questions, once they've been answered. I prefer to only keep comments around that are truly useful, i.e. either provide information not otherwise available, offer valuable strategies, or perform comparative calculations.
Edit: You really shouldn't care about your reputation. You can achieve a stellar reputation if you just submit screenshots for stuff that doesn't have screenshots yet. When I leave comments I instead try to make the comments as useful as possible, and if the comment becomes obsolete I either edit it to update it or delete it outright. By the way, if you delete your own comment it won't hurt your reputation!

As long as you delete it before it gets purged that is!
