Why do people complain about Major character's death?

Well, I am going to complain about the leaked supposed information regarding the next expansion.
Mainly, Garrosh killing Cairne. In WoW, they never used him for anything so it's not really as significant as killing say, Thrall.

But it is signifigant, definitely. Cairne and his Tauren are one of the biggest points of peace in the New Horde. If Garrosh kills him, the Tauren either leave the Horde and oppose Garrosh, or stay and support him.

Well, they will have to stay. They are hardly large enough for survival on their own, as I doubt the last few years have multiplied the population. However, they will probably seek to undermine his rule, subtlely. OMG LIKE A ROGUE. TAUREN ROGUES!
Vol'jin and Sylvanas would probably go all wierd at the fact that Garrosh killed one of the Horde's main leaders.
And this would be the discussion at the Negotiation table:
Lor'themor: Hiya everyone, I really hope we can sort out something today...
Garrosh: Shush pink skin. ME SMASH PINK SKIN!
Vol'jin: Look, 'mon, we like dese pink skins over dere, dey got da good stuff, 'mon.
Garrosh: Shut up! You're not Jamaican!
Sylvanas: Look, Garrosh, declaring war on the Alliance isn't the -
Garrosh: QUIET CORPSE LADY! YOU USED TO BE PINK SKIN, YOU HAD MELTY MELTY CHEMICALS! I NEED THEM TO KILL THE PINK SKINS, PURPLE SKINS AND BLUE SKINS!
Vol'jin: Um, ya do know 'dat I have blue...
Garrosh: I said quiet!
Sylvanas: I don't think the Blight is quite ready yet.
Garrosh: Then make it ready! ME NO STOP WAR UNTIL ALLIANCE ARE DEAD!
Lor'themor: But, the Alliance's armies are much larger than -
Garrosh: That's it! ALL STFU OR I KILL YOU LIKE I KILLED FURRY MAN!
Sylvanas begins singing a lament.
Garrosh: Shut up, woman! *backhands Sylvanas and walks off*
-------------------
Sylvanas: You know what? I preferred Thrall.
Lor'themor: Yes, I did too, now who will import my handbags from Orgrimmar?
Vol'jin: Why you have da handbags, 'mon. I tought you was a 'mon.
Lor'themor: It's called metrosexual. It's an elf thing.
Goblin emissary: We need help! We want to join the horde!
*Garrosh enters*
Garrosh: Puny green skin, we no need you. We smash Alliance without you.
Goblin: But we need you!
Sylvanas: Welcome to the Horde. *smirks slyly*

To be honest, he's probably doing Jaina.

I like it when characters I hate die.
I hate it when characters I like die. (Unless it's a sufficiently non-lame death that genuinely drives the story forward and isn't just an excuse to make them a loot piñata or something. Then I can usually accept it and move on.)
That about sums it up for me.

I want to see some alliance political problems as well
There are, but they're just not hugely noticable.
Jaina vs Varian for instance, about ideas for war.
There's also a secret Power Struggle between Fandral and Tyrande, which might come to a head in Cataclysm.

Nah, that will be all wrapped up in Stormrage, the stuff in the preview chapter I read was messed up.

Heh, I think the Legend's volume 5 only has half the chapter.... or it's like the 3rd-4th chapter. Still sounds really interesting though.

"Why do people complain about Major character's death?"
They complain because they liked those characters. They liked hearing what they had to say, liked watching them fighting, liked reading about their thoughts, and so on. Once they're dead, there will be no more stories forthcoming (unless, of course, it was merely a setback).

Oh yeah... just imagine if Thrall or Varian would die right now... it would happen, and it would be effing awesome.
I think people who regards having a popular and major lore character dying just for a very short lived peice of entertaining, say for about a week, shows how little that person cares for the lore in the long run. Theres a major difference in killing a character to give some lore progression, and then killing a character that just ends a story completely.
If this world warcraft is supported on didn't have the lore characters and they all just got killed off tomorrow, all you'd have is a bunch of pointless repeated pvp crap until you get so sick of it you stop playing.

It seems a retarded method of story in wow that if you make a boss into a raid boss, if there a major character, then they need to die and be lootable for epics, and thats it, no redemption, no after story, just the lootage.
Any other game could work an after story, but not in wow.

And this.
Something needing to be made clear on warcraft, wow isn't comic book land, where if a major character dies, they come back a month later perfectly alright, like nothing happened to them. When a character dies in lore like in warcraft, they either stay dead, or become an undead, which just makes them into some demented emo thing.
And if a character dies like there theres no more continuity. I for one don't play warcraft based purely on its game mechanic. If it was that reason I'd have left years ago cause of how boring it can get. I stay on because of my love for my favourite characters in the lore and developing it.. that doesn't mean I would have any reason to stay if the characters I like were just killed off, and replaced with another.
