Who steps up when the tank dies?

Which dps class/specc, should in your opinion pick up the boss/adds if the tank dies?
I really like those chaotic seconds where i smack mocking blow, and tries to equip shield and onehander, push def stance, shieldwall, shieldblock, frenzied reg, spam 1s revenges and healthpot all at the same time.
What tricks do other classes have? Ive seen rogues survive decent with evasion, but the ultimate emergency tank would have to be a feral druid, right?

A good feral druid can do it. Death knights tend to do pretty well, as well. I have to say, I've never seen even a really good warrior, one who knows his class and actually has a tank dual-spec even, ever do well as a DPS trying to makeshift tank a boss.
I don't know if I'd say feral druids or death knights would be better (assuming both players know what they're doing, of course). Probably a feral druid if he was in an OT/DPS spec. Otherwise probably a Death Knight.
Edit: As far as trash goes, as a holy paladin I would sometimes taunt a few mobs off a squishy DPS if the tank lost a few, because with concentration aura up we're immune to cast-time reduction from attacks, and we're the only non-tank shield-using plate class. It doesn't work too well on bosses though, I'd assume.

Me, the mage, i always have 2nd highest aggro, and i pop mirror image to soak up about 3 more hits before bubbling.

Druids and DK's have the best shot, Druids from a quick switch to Bear Form, DKs with a swap to Frost Pres.
Druids are the only class that can be crit immune without swapping gear, which makes them the prime choice.
Warriors can get some benefit from shield + Defensive stance, but not a lot- and they're gonna eat a ton of crits in DPS gear. Paladins don't even have the easy switch of defensive stance, and are going to get eaten even worse in DPS gear, even swapping to the shield.
Now if Dual Spec+ gear swapping was valid in combat, it would be a different situation.

if the tank dies, its proberly because the healer is dead, and then theres rly no point in picking up the mobs=)

Arms is good for a short fill in. Bladestorm will net you the aggro you need, cancel aura, shift defensive, Shield Wall.
Feral druids work as well, but Shield Wall's 60% damage reduction is pretty hard to beat.
Feral druid is better than warrior's shield wall.
Feral druid is uncritable. Warrior can get critted which will double the damage, than cut it by 60%, which basically means you got hit for 80% of what the druid got hit for. Yes it's less, but druid also has 'shield wall' of some sort, so they can trigger it as well. Plus after shield-wall runs out druid is still uncrittable.
There is no better 'ohh crap MT died' backup than a feral druid, unless there's someone else in tank gear.
DK can put on tanking weapon/sigil which will add to +def, but remain crittable. Also can go frost which will increase armor to that of a real tank (tank plate and dps plate has same amount of armor).
Paladin + Warrior can put on shield which will add to +def, but remain ctittable. Warriors can go to defensive stance which reduces damage somewhat, but not that great. Warriors and paladins will also have the armor of a real tank once they get their shields on.
(I'm assuming tanks aren't using trinkets/rings/necks with armor, but even if they do, it's not a big difference)
So I think Druid > dk/warrior/paladin as a backup tank.
The one big exception is when AOE tank dies. DK's and Paladins don't really have an AOE taunt. Yes DK's could get the army out, but it has a cast time, and a whole raid will die by the time they come. Paladins can taunt 3 mobs off a single player, so if all mobs go for 1 dps, they could pick 3 of them up.
Warriors can AOE taunt (I believe druids can too).
So in that case Druid = Warrior (aoe can be killed fast presumably so if shield wall expires after they are all dead, it's fine) > DK/paladin
I believe hunters can become 'hit immune' for about 15 seconds, and they have a taunt. So they could pull a boss even on a hard-enrage and last for those 15 seconds.

lol i always end up tanking if the tank dies :P This. A couple months back in Ulduar, when the MT on Auriaya died and the OT was in dps spec, my rogue picked up aggro and was able to stay alive for about 30 seconds - long enough for a brez to get off cooldown and get the tank back up. Best bosskill ever.
I was screaming on vent the entire time like a little girl, but still. >.>
