I was thinking today how all of the CoT instances, with the exception of Mount Hyjal that ~5% of gamers will see, are all
extremely old-world. For instance, as relevant as the opening of the Dark Portal is, many gamers don't see it as a lore event simply because they
don't know the lore. While the average gamer may recognize Thrall, they won't understand why the Bronze Dragonflight mentions that "Taretha's fate is.. regrettably inevitable". They won't even know who Taretha is, or what her fate is. I think Blizzard recognized this, and that's why the newest CoT instance will be The Purging of Stratholme. But still, I wish they'd used more of the newer lore that is most relevant to the World of Warcraft as we know it.
So here are some of the ideas I had that I wish Blizz had included with the Burning Crusade, that more gamers might recognize and enjoy.
- The Escape of Kael'thas -- Assist Kael'thas in his escape from human prisons, seal the pact between Vashj and Kael'thas.
- The Release of The Betrayer -- Aid Tyrande in releasing Illidan Stormrage and set the gears in motion for the events of the Burning Crusade, under the guise of Night Elf Sentinels.
- The Elves Conquered -- Under the disguise of Scourge, assure that Silvermoon City is burned to the ground by slaying the archmages within. Perhaps a timed event?
And, admittedly, all these took place in WC3, but that's where most of the development for the world as we know it took place. All three of those above directly affected events in the Burning Crusade, and it would be neat to set the stage for battles you would fight as you progressed onwards.
Also, I know there are logic issues within some of these -- for instance, it could be argued that if Kael'thas and Vashj never met, a lot of bloodshed could have been prevented. The Bronze Dragonflight are only intervening in places where alteration of time would be detrimental. But putting those aside..
..what're your ideas?
