When it's all worth it

Let me start off my saying I love tanking on my feral druid. I take great enjoyment out of it and I go to great lengths to research and learn the bests ways to do it. When dual specs was released, I was overjoyed that I could tank my way through Northrend while still being able to keep a viable soloing build.
So today I join the que for regular AN. After very proudly ticking the "I can tank" box, I very soon got a whisper for a group. Hooray, the group already has a healer! Two seconds in, the guy who invited me says "So we need tank still". When I bring up that I'm, in fact, a tank, he goes "Uummm, are you sure you can main tank an instance?" Well this just sets me right off. Quite offended, I say as politely as I can, "Yeah, considering I've been tanking since BC, I'm pretty sure".
So we absolutely blast through this instance, as you should with AN. After we down Anubbie, the guy from before whispers me and says "I've never seen a druid tank so well. Sorry for doubting you before". This makes me feel pretty good, but I almost exploded with pride when the healer then whispers me a few seconds later saying "It's great to finally pug a competent tank. I've added you to my friends list, hope you don't mind. Good tanks are in short supply!" I felt so happy I had to come right here and post about it squee.
tl;dr i tanked something after some guy said I couldn't and he felt stupid afterward. This made me feel good.
Any of you guys ever have one of those moments where you remember why you play this game the way that you do?

One of those moments for me was just a little while ago when I actually put together a competent 10 man PUG group for VoA. I had never actually started a raid group and was surprised that I found the 10 people we needed to down The Watcher. Not enough for Emalon, but I didn't care.
I also put together a 40 man WG group, but that wasn't as impressive since there at least 60 people waiting to go for each one.
I was pretty proud of myself.

Having 5-6 people greet me every time I logged on, enthusiastically telling me what they downed, how they solved certain situations and bragging with new gear they got made it all worth it and then some..
I think you hit some kind of WoW jackpot right there.
I recently recustomized/renamed one of my alts, and most people outside my tiny guild wouldn't have recognized the name, anyway, but I was running around and get a tell from an old friend, who recognized the guild name, asking who I was. When I told him, he said "great! Maly-10?"
So I switch to my main and as soon as I join the raid group, I see that it's made up of some of my best friends and favorite people in the game. We end up doing Maly, 10-man Sarth+1, and 5 of us did a speed-run through H:HoS (28 minutes).
Playing with people I've known for a long time, and who've known each other for longer, and having tons of fun reminds me why I play this game.

I ran H VH the other day the healer was a moonkin druid.... We cleared it with no wipes I was then shown the healing metters I did the most healing with my own DK rotation spells. He tells me "you make healing Boring" At the end of the day that just made my day.

I always pug everything and I'm rarely in a very nice group. A few days ago I did heroic Nexus with a pug, all 4 players were compotent, no complaining, no arguing with each other, laughing at everyones jokes, mob pulls were smooth and everyone knew the bosses and no one died (expect the moonkin got stuck on the ledge near Anomalus and had to fall down into the abyss, but still continued happily). After Keri everyone said thier thanks and such and complimented the run (and the healer complimenting my tanking), I hearthed out and said to myself "Now that was a VERY nice group, I love groups like that, everyones all nice and happy". That run made my genuinely happy. I wish all pugs were like that.

These days, I am either acting as the tank or the DPS. When we are in an instance and DPS or the healer gets aggro from adds, I immediately notice when the first thing they do is run
towards
the tank. These people invariably also get the other mechanics of instance running and almost always get added to my friends list. Tanks who wait for mana, can handle add situations, and are always aware of the location of their healer also gain some respect from me.
There is one core group of friends that I raid with that are so in-tune with one another that we're almost always constantly moving in an instance, regardless of which of the three people with tank specs decided to tank and which of the three people with healing specs decided to heal. Everyone knows what to do and when to do it, so downtime is minimal and we end up smoking instances. I think we had one lucky Timed CoT run (with regard to where the groups spawned) that we finished in just over 15 minutes.
If you ever get that kind of group from a PUG, it's pretty much like winning the WoW lottery. It's better than rolling 100 on 25-man top-tier epic gear in my book.

I've taken it as a personal mission of mine. I want to become something of the "PUG King". I pride myself in the fact that I'm "that tank" you PUGged who was actually a good tank who knew what they were doing.
I just want to put hope in PUGs back into everyone's minds.

I've had a few of these moments myself.
But what happens more often is, myself being a retri paladin, it's not always about topping the damage, its, did you cleanse him, blessing of sacrafice him, throw some off heals that in the long run saved the group.
I love things like that, but the thing is it's rarely noticed :(, but ill continue being the unsung hero :L
