What's with the 2.6 (ideal) weapon speed I keep seeing?

if anyone has a free moment or five, could you explain the 2.6 weapon speed idea? I've stumbled across it numerous times the last few days and just wanted some clarification on it.
Thanks in advance.

Its because of the Windfury proc cooldown(3 seconds) which is applied to both weapons when it occurs.

Excellent. Thanks to you both.

It also lets your windfury procs, when they do proc, do more damage.

2.7's and 2.8's are great, too. Stormstrike and Windfury, unlike many rogue and warrior abilities, are not normalized, meaning slower weapons hit harder with those attacks than faster weapons of the same DPS.

That and some of us don't like having too slow of a weapon speed. If you have to wait too long between swings you can have other problems.
Flurry/Unleashed Rage can proc off Stormstrike, which is an instant attack.

slower weapons always hit harder, it compliments Stormstrike and Windfury nicely.

This post has been rather misleading, as many people aren't sure what they're talking about, but just repeating what they have seen others say. The fact of the matter is, 2.6 is viewed as one of the "more" ideal weapon speeds for enhancement shaman. Because there is no one-hander with a speed of 3 or higher, a MH wf proc will always prevent one on the offhand, and vice versa. The significance of the number 2.6, is that when the commonly used haste buffs heroism/bloodlust are combined with the 30% bonus from flurry, its produces a MH and OH timer that still permits a WF proc for the mh if it procced the first time around. 2.6 represents the average that enh shaman should shoot for with a mh and off-hand weapon, so that haste can never hurt them. But for the unfortunate and fortunate shaman who have hyjal/by gear that may give them more haste, 2.6 may even be too fast, and heroism/bloodlust,flurry, and their pots/gear/etc may push their attack speed to or under 1.5, making them wait another swing for a possible proc.
And yes, the math doesnt make sense, because haste is subject to diminishing returns in some form or another.
