Dragon Kill Points is what I think they stand for. It is a loot rule system. The DKP system awards raiders in a guild for things. Mostly it is showing up on the and being ready for the raid. Not failing helped. Getting raid supplied helped. The idea was contributing to the goal of raiding granted DKP. You were then able to trade the DKP for the drops. It was a way to keep new guild members from getting loot without contributing or being there for raids.
If you are applying to a guild that sues a DKP system, i highly suggest you look over it. Ask questions in whispers about it if you have any questions.
There are preset DKP systems. Many guilds will customize the system to their liking.
The DKP are not within the game (without an add on.) They are usually tracked manually by trusted members or add-ons.
In the famous ony wipe audio, their system allowed the leader to subtract DKP for failing.

A scoring system to determine who gets the loot, largely replaced by EPGP, but immortalised in
the onyxia wipe
video.

I doubt that, since SKG > EPGP.
Good deals>anything. Doesn't matter what you use as long as the rules are set in stone it doesn't matter.

DKP systems (or, more accurately, point systems, since the name Dragon Kill Points for the system is a legacy left over from when all the major bosses of Everquest were dragons) are still far, far more popular than "gold point" systems. That is certainly true in the western hemisphere, as the first time I've learned of EPGP was in a recent D&R thread on the official forums; it is certainly not used on any of the servers I've played on. It may be more common in other localities.

I've seen EPGP much more often than DKP, and EPGP isn't a gold point system. GP stands for gear points.
That said, I've seen guilds make both systems work for them.

Actually, I was confusing EPGP with GDKP.
Looking at the EPGP website, it is pretty much synonymous with DKP, the name is merely more generic. DKP is better referred to as a point system of loot distribution, of which there are many - EPGP is just one, albeit popular, method of using points to distribute loot. Regardless of how they work today, the predecessor of all point systems arose from killing dragons as part of Everquest's end game, hence the name Dragon Kill Points.
