Isn't getting too much treat what the
panic button
is for? We do have a lot of panic buttons.

We have 1 panic button.
Howl of terror
, not for this situation but a panic button nonetheless.
Death coil
, could also be a panic button for the same reason. (it makes people run away).
In pvp as destruction shadowfury could be seen as a panic button. (you zapp them and run away)
It's not alot but theres a few. (definatly more than 1)

fmatt says it all. and as someone already mentioned the ideal destro spec right now requires only 1 point in
Destructive Reach
so at the same spec you have high burst damage and only 5% threat reduction. kinda ridiculous.
but then again that's the story of our warlock lives, with everything stacked against us, we still shine. *a moment of serenity*
god i love this class

That's a little bit of a flawed generalization. I've met many good tanks who I've pulled hate off of simply because A. it was my fault and B. our threat system is broken. If you're an Uldu 25+ geared lock with a good tank who's Uldu 10 geared, you can still pull hate very easily, regardless of his skill level. And this is not counting fights which wont add crazy damage bonuses (ex Hodir and Assembly of Iron) where the tank will have no chance of keeping hate over you.
There doesn't even have to be a gear disparity - if i'm not careful, i can easily pull threat from either of my guild's primary tanks (all of us are in uld 25 gear)
As long as the rest of your group is aware and actively does things to help out (vigilance, salvation, tricks of the trade and misdirect are all incredibly helpful), as well as you being smart when you blow soulshatter, you should generally be able to limit your agro problems to fights that have a specific mechanic that gives you a damage boost - in raids the only fights where threat is usually an issue for me are Hodir (make sure the tank gets the crit buff too, hold off on soulshatter till tank is around 300k threat), 1st boss on Iron Council (just soulshatter since you shouldn't need it on the second boss), Phase 1 mimiron (soulshatter, remainder of the fight is essentially threatless) and Vezax (go slow first couple shadow crashes, soulshatter)
with the exception of those 4 fights, threat is generally not an issue

I pull threat ALL THE TIME in ANYTHING on my demonology warlock. And he's only full T7.5 gear. He does about 4k dps and anytime I pop demonology + immolation aura + rain of fire on trash, I WILL get threat. There is currently nothing in this game that can pull threat off me when I use said combination. (pop trinket too.) It usually results in some sick DPS #s, but, 9/10 times I will die. So perhaps that is what the warlock was doing to pull threat.
What can I say? We're threat machines.

Very short answer.
Warlocks = 10% less threat
Every other dps class in the game = 30% less threat.
This means that for similar dps for all classes, a warlock will have 20% more threat.
Blizzard hates us.

It's not quite that simple.
Our minions are responsible for a portion of our DPS that doesn't generate any threat for the 'lock.
