arcane mages burst dps is better than anything a warlock can put out.
long term, mages and affliction warlocks are very, very equal.
A "perfect" mage will beat a "perfect" lock on stand and spank fights if the warlock does not have a doomguard out, no matter what spec the warlock is.
Other classs/spec will be very competitive, but will fall slightly short of mages and warlocks.

If you've got the stomach for it, take a look at random Naxx-25 WWS logs from their front page and check out classes you are familiar with.
It's depressing that people are getting into 25-man content and still obviously have no clue how to play their class/spec!
