Granted it will never happen, but I'm completely capable of getting your address, driving (or flying, if needed) to your house and shaking your hand. Alexstraza cannot do that. The difference is that while right now I'm no more real than her (to you), I'm capable of changing that. She is not.Are you? All I have to go on is your word. As far as I'm concern, you could be a figament of my imagination. Alexstrasza, Thrall and the like are ideas, that I believe don't physically exist, just as you, Michael Jordan, and Keanu Reeves are ideas that I believe do exist. The only real difference is my belief.
What about historical figures? I have absolutely no way of meeting face to face with lots of people, but I still believe they exist. They have meaning, to me, despite the fact that they are dead.
Heck, you say Alexstrasza is merely a bunch of pixals with an idea attached. What about, say, Abraham Lincoln? His corpse is merely a collection of carbon molecules with an idea of a person attached. How are they really different?
It's all about how you look at it. That's the idea behind roleplaying. You are treating this carefully crafted world as if you had a window you were looking into, behind which this place really exists. Where there are "real" people that have beliefs and loved ones and pain. How can you enjoy a novel or movie if you're stalwart in your belief that these things have no value because they don't "actually" exist?
Thought separates us (You, me and Lincoln) from the characters in WOW. I think. You think. Lincoln did and, depending on your beliefs, still does. Alexstraza does not think. She has a few lines, and actions which a thinking person gave her and that's it. She does not wonder if she will find love, what to pick up at WalMart, or even if The Lich King will succeed.
However, I do believe Alexstraza is capable of having worth. Not substance, but worth. I've seen movies that made me walk away reconsidering how I thought about something. While I have never had that happen with a video game, it is possible and that gives it (potential) worth. So, yes, Alexstraza can affect you in much the same way Abraham Lincoln does but it's only because some one at Blizzard (a real, thinking person made of molecules) gave her those lines to say, those actions to take. With that considered, it's more that Alexstraza has an effect on you "by proxy."

Alright, Skreeran, it's two-thirty AM. I'm going to bed but I'll check this in the morning.
Good my philosophical troll friend.

Well, you may believe that, but honestly, as far as I'm concerned, You and everyone else that I "know" exists but haven't met in person is equal to a fictional character. The characters in warcraft are given though and feelings by a real person, or people, and that, in a way is how they are "real." I know Thrall's view on things, and what he has suffered, and what his hopes are because they were written into him as a character.
He's no less "real" to me than anyone else might be simply because people say so. I will never meet Attila the Hun, but I know things about him, what he did, what his strategies were. Thrall is the same. I will never meet him, but I know what he's done, how he feels. In my mind, they're the same, even if one supposedly existed at one point, while one doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, Thrall and Alexstrasza are just as real as Richard the Lionheart or Hatshepsut. All I can absolutely believe is true is what my senses tell me, and I can't even completely trust them. Functionally, they're the same.

I know you, Dralas, almost certainly know why I hate Varian, but for the sake of those reading and further elaboration from myself, I'm going to go ahead and make my points.
1. He tried to kill Thrall. The only thing that would match my anger at someone killing Thrall would be someone killing Saurfang Sr., or someone killing Taretha. And I despise Blackmoore. I don't care what Varian's motivations were, he wants my favorite lore character dead. He wants all of my chracters dead. He wants the entire Horde dead, or at the very least put back into bondage.
2. This little gem: Med'an: Leave my Mother alone! She's under a spell! Can't you see?
Varian: Out of the way, lad!
Anduin: Father! Spare him! He's hurt and he saved me--!
Varian: I've been no child killer--but for Garona's cub, I could make an exception!
I was speechless when I read that. Garona killed his father, so he's going to kill her son, who has done nothing against him, even after Anduin, his son, begs him to spare his life, revealing that he saved him. That's just
evil

Yeh, what Skree said above shows the *!@#$%ness of Varian.
And Whoa, Alexstrasza's voice is wierd. I preferred Keristrasza's. D:

Trust me, it's not as bad as her actual voice she uses in EoE.
In fact, the new Sylvanas kinda sounds like Alexstrazsa in EoE.
(it burns my ears....bring back the old one damnit)
