In the next major content patch we will be removing the prismatic quality of the jewelcrafter-only Dragon’s Eye gems. Like other gems, they will have to match the socket color to receive a socket bonus. When this change occurs, players with qualifying jewelcrafting skill will be provided a yet to be determined amount of Dalaran Jewelecrafter Tokens as compensation.

Wait, what, JC will now have the same bonuses that other professions get? And we won't be getting extra bonuses that other professions don't get?
Can't say I'm happy (I love those freebie socket bonuses & easy-equip metas) but seriously... those extra bonuses put JC over the top. And that's why we all re-rolled! :) Now we'll just get the same +39 spellpower (or whatever) bonus that you get from enchanting and blacksmithing.
Commence QQ, or for the seriously emo among you,

I'm sure when they release epic gems they'll ensure that jewelcrafters continue to have a +39 spellpower bonus above normal epic gems. Their goal isn't to smash JC, but to bring it in line with the other profs. Only real problem is that it took them so long, so we're all used to having all that extra sugar.

Cool. Back to 21agi meta it is.
For me, not having to juggle around the colours was as important, if not more so, than the stat bonuses. Oh well, at least 'next major content patch' should refer to 3.2, right? And that's not going to be too soon?

I don't believe the validity of the source, and we all know how rumors fly around about what will/won't happen in a future patch (BG xp for twinks anyone?). I won't worry about it until I actually read it in the patch notes.

If that's not valid enough for you, then I don't know what is. Epicdad got the source correct, I know, but it takes a few clicks if you actually want to see the *real* post (yes, I know the trackers can be trusted - but never hurts to be exact).

If they really need to slap JC around a bit, knock down the stats on dragon eyes, not the prismatic quality. Make them 24 points per gem instead of 27, but allow them to still act as any colour :/

I love this game. Especially how it brings out the very best in people.

Why is everyone JC? Because it was far and away better than every other profession.
This is a good change.

And? Who exactly was it hurting? There will always be a "better" profession that hardcore raiders will roll.
This went on for SEVEN months, them nerfing it now doesn't solve anything. What they should have done is buff other professions a bit, to make them more appealing, rather than nerfing the most used profession.
It's "hurting" all of the other professions who take Blacksmithing because they wear plate and like crafting it, or are a Tailor because they have always been a tailor and wear cloth.
Them nerfing it now DOES solve everything. When you have 9 or whatever other professions that are all approximately equal, and Jewelcrafting WAY WAY ahead of everything else; your solution is to buff 9 other professions? Sorry, that's not the way things work. Nerfing JC gives the choice of profession back to the player, rather than a player feeling compelled to be JC because it's the best.
When a profession (or ability) is found to be way out of wack (i.e. leatherworking drums at the end of TBC, or raid stacking shamans for constant Heroism), it gets fixed. Seven months later... okay you can complain about the timeliness of the change, but it doesn't negate the fact that it is needed.

Inc mass exodus to blacksmithing. We discussed these changes in guild last night (the way they are presented right now anyway, no telling what might happen till 3.2 actually comes out), and I think the majority of us min/maxers are going to reroll blacksmithing, especially with the release of epic gems.
I am going to do the same, and keep tailoring as my second profession.
