Understanding hit rating
Return to board index
I've always thought about why is it necessary for me to be hit capped, exactly 17% hit (100% chance to hit).
At the moment I have 408 hit rating (15.55%), and 1 point into suppression and cataclysm. My hit rating is at 16.55%.
Now the question I always ask, does hit rating increase my DPS because it makes me have no chance to miss? Or does it increase DPS directly + chance to hit?
I ask this because I see that there's such a small chance for me to actually miss, those 0.45% chance.
Thank you in advance.
by the time you get to the last half a percent it does get difficult to see the benefits but the argument for hit is very simple:
hit rating will improve your dps more, point for point, than any other stat.
this is true right up until you reach 100% chance to hit when it becomes completely obsolete. at your amount of hit rating if you group with a moonkin or Spriest then you're over capped and some of your itemisation is completely wasted. if you're not grouped with one of those then you're slightly under.
generally, don't worry too much. the difference between hit and spellpower is relatively small. certainly at your level of hit rating you can afford to improve other stats but i would suggest you have a plan for when you're grouped with someone who provides a hit buff (ie, swapping out an item etc)
