Exactly - I often find myself in situations where pulling multiple mobs would just be waste of time and you'd be better off killing them one bye one anyway.
For levelling with Prot (which is great in 3.x ! Done that on my 2. warrior all the way from 1 to 70) I recommend to collect a set of dps gear - concentrate on +hit, expertise, attack power, shield block value.
You lose little survivability against normal mobs but kill a lot faster than you would with a regular tanking set.

if you are leveling as protection, you should be pulling groups. if you're not, it's definitely going to be slower leveling than a dps spec.
you can round up mobs either on your mount or using warbringer. put a spike on your shield, pop shield block and watch them beat themselves to death. use shockwave AFTER shield block has expired. keep demo should and thunderclap up for less downtime.
if you really prefer single target fights, then you should probably switch to arms for leveling.

If you are at level 67 and experiencing rage issues, try
this
build. What you chose in the Prot tree doesn't
really
matter of course, as long as you got to the bottom talent. I took Improved Charge from the Arms tree because it grants every charge an extra 10 rage on top of the 15 rage it already gives you by default.
Because you can pretty much open every fight by Charging, you get 25 rage for free at the start of each fight! Then you can hit Shield Block immediately to help Revenge kick in, fire off that free Heroic Strike you get with Glyph of Revenge and maybe even use Bloodrage (I use a /castsequence macro that first casts Bloodrage, then Battle Shout. BS costs 10 rage, and Bloodrage gives 20 at base, so you're still left with 10). Also, if you have Glyph of Heroic Strike and it crits, that's another 10 rage for free.
When all is said and done, you should have somewhere between 40-50 rage at the very beginning of the fight. More than enough to last you through the battle, whether it is against one mob or multiple. The math is simple enough, after all. The more mobs you have to fight, the more rage you will use, but the more often you will get hit, too; so more raging is coming in as you use it.
Just keep the Revenges and Heroic Strikes coming and you should be fine. I'm leveling Protection like you are and let me tell you, rage is hardly ever an issue. It doesn't have to be, with the right glyphs and (dare I say) rotation. I know there's better glyphs out there for Warriors in the end, but for leveling, these truly shine. Good luck!

Thanks, Hoover.
Zakk, it's okay if I'm wrong, I can take criticism. We're all new at some point and I guess I'm pretty new right now, but you could also point me to my mistakes without the mockery. I mean, they're just tips, not an ironclad method, you know..
About the Heroic Strikes. Yes, I do feel that it's free and that the 10 rage is a nice bonus. You see, if it weren't for Glyph of Revenge, I'd never be using HS in the first place, so I wouldn't be earning any rage for critting with it. But with those glyphs (and you're not going to find better ones for leveling, in my opinion, not before level 60/70) you can throw in an extra HS here and there,
only
after GoR procced, making sure that it never
costs
you any rage, and your chances of getting some extra rage in between throwing Revenge, Shield Slam and Devestate are increased nicely. 10 isn't that much, but to someone who's constantly starved for rage, it can be a life-saver.
In between all these skills your warrior will constantly be dishing out white damage, so there's plenty of chances right there to earn some extra rage by critting. For that matter, it's nice to have Cruelty to make crits more likely to happen, but I chose to build on my strengths some more first, before investing in something so situational.
Oh, and that bit you said about 'too much GCD'. Yes, you make a good point stating that using Bloodrage and Battle Shout in quick succession costs time because of their cooldowns, but since charge grants you a 1.5s stun, you have a little 'room' as it were, to cast the macro
if you were to use it in combat
. I use it before I Charge 99.9% of the time.
And no, you can't have the benefit of Bloodrage before every fight, because it would mean you don't fight nearly often enough, but you can make sure that it's always up before the really tough fights. Kinda like you would save up Shield Wall for the really big battles, only Bloodrage is just a 1-minute cooldown. Which is really not
that
long. 20 extra rage every 2-3 fights is nice.

I recomend this spec for leveling. At 67 prot this should work. This should allow all your spells to be used, easy rotation (charge, thunderclap, shockwave, cleave, thunderclap, shockwave (ext ext)

Okay, I think you've proven your point, you know your stuff better than I do. I just created my posts thinking 'hey, if it works for me, it might work for the OP as well'. I've been playing the Warrior class for two weeks now, I don't pretend to know it all. I'm not level 80 yet, but by now I do know what it's like to level the protection build, and I just wanted to share what I think works well.
And, at the end of the day, what works best for you can all boil down to what feels right. If I feel happy using two major glyphs that you would consider wasted, that's fine, right? I mean, I don't aspire to be the best at what I do, I just want to have fun. And this class/build definitely is.
I want to thank you, Zakk, for teaching me another thing or two about my character. Even if you are treating me like I'm some kind of retard. I'm serious, that bit about the second rage cost was new for me and might help me in the future. So thanks.

Well, I did know about the avoidance bit.. I haven't really gotten around to tanking yet, as leveling is still my first priority at this point, but I did some research on the class and its role in instances. I'm not really interested in raiding, so if I can tank well in a normal/heroic 5-man, then my goal will be accomplished..
And don't worry about the sarcasm bit. Now that I know, there will be no need for me to feel attacked in future conversation. =)
