For you it probably means nothing. The newer looking ones the quest speaks of are actually the current models. Two or so years ago most of the original level 60 mounts used the same models as the level 40s, just with different colors. When the new models were introduced, people were allowed to trade in their old mounts for new ones, free of charge.

Nobody who still has an old mount is going to trade them today, though. They are the pinnacle when it comes to status symbol mounts.

You don't need to worry about those quests unless you own an old mount like the Ivory Raptor. Those quests are just to trade in the old model mounts for the new models.
