The only reason I felt bad about leaving was that the first fight had just been started, and so they were left a man down (plus all the blessings of kings would have been removed, which would have hurt more than missing 1 dps). That's the leader's fault, he shouldn't start the fight while an argument is still unresolved. He sort of tried to bully you into staying, no point in doing what he wants.
^ This.
I've lead ToC25 for a few weeks now, and it's always been mainspec over offspec rolls. If you wish that your MS is not what you're currently doing, you have to clear that with the RL (hence, me) before the start of the raid. One MS win per boss as well (once it goes to OS, it's fair game).
When it comes to Orbs, they're distributed by me using
Raid Roll. It's a great little addon that makes the distribution of these types of items quick and painless. Trophies are done the same way, but people are asked to go prove that they can actually use the trophy immediately (or after the end of the raid). It's not fair that someone gets to sit on a Trophy for the next week or two, while someone else could have used it right away.
With patterns, people who have the appropriate profession and are able to use the pattern right away are given priority. If they win the roll, they must link me their profession as well as an item of gear that they're currently wearing that shows they're not just using some fancy macro to link a fake profession. They're asked to learn the pattern immediately and link their new profession to me afterwards. If there's nobody in the raid that can use it (hasn't happened yet), then it's free rolling using Raid Roll, and the person can do with the pattern as they please.
Sorry for the wall of text, but those are the loot rules that I use in my PuG raids. Not many people seem to have any issues with it, and the distribution is pretty quick once bosses are down. Your RL also didn't seem to do the key thing in PuGs... which is /readycheck. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with what you did.
